Ch36 - Detoxification

9 min read2,226 words

Since the cause of the cold poison had been found, the most important thing now was to develop the antidote. Don’t look at Ji Qinghuai who was alive and kicking all day. If he encountered one more attack, it would directly kill him.

Therefore, Xu Luo didn’t dare to delay for too long. On Saturday afternoon, he took his supplies and knocked on the door of Qin Lang’s house. He had contacted Ji Qinghuai before he came, and they had agreed on the time beforehand, so at the moment, Ji Qinghuai was waiting for him.

Xu Luo entered the door, placed his briefcase on the ground, and opened it, taking out a packet of Chinese medicine. When Ji Qinghuai saw it, he showed an expression of disgust and immediately shifted his eyes.

Seeing his reaction, Xu Luo chuckled and took out a medium-sized porcelain jar, asking Qin Lang, “CanI borrow the kitchen?”

“Yes.”

Qin Lang knew that Xu Luo was going to decoct the medicine, so he entered the kitchen first and took out the medicine pot specially used for decocting medicine from the cabinet. He placed it on the stove and gave way to Xu Luo.

“Thanks a lot.” Xu Luo opened the paper bag, poured all the medicinal materials inside into the pot and threw the mulberry paper into the trash can. He took the porcelain jar again, opened the lid and poured the liquid inside into the pot as well.

Xu Luo covered the pot with the lid and turned on the stove, adjusting it to medium to heat the medicine. Then he and Qin Lang walked out of the kitchen together and headed back to the living room to chat with Ji Qinghuai.

Since the kitchen door was left open, the aroma of medicine diffused out of the kitchen after a while. After sniffing the air, Ji Qinghuai realised that the mix Xu Luo made today was completely different from the one he had drunk before.

Before, the medicine he drank was unbearable just in terms of odour. But this medicine didn’t smell as foul, in fact, it even smelled quite good.

Xu Luo sat down and drank a cup of tea. After a while, the medicine on the stove had been boiled enough. He got up and went to the kitchen to turn off the stove. He took a bowl and poured out the decoction in the pot.

No more, no less. Just enough for a bowl.

He returned to the living room with the medicine, placed the bowl on the table to let it cool and started today’s purpose.

“If you want to cure your cold poison quickly, the most direct way is to force it out of the body during an attack.” Xu Luo said to Ji Qinghuai. “This bowl of medicine was prepared by me after trial and error. The medicine itself is very mild, drinking it will induce the cold toxin, and then I’ll use acupuncture and moxibustion to force it out.”

Ji Qinghuai nodded. This method sounded quite simple.

Xu Luo turned his head to Qin Lang again, “I’ll go to the room to help Qinghuai with acupuncture, I’ll have to bother you to stay outside in case something unexpected occurs.”

Qin Lang replied, “Okay.”

The initial preparations have been made and the key lay in the next process. Ji Qinghuai was happy at the thought that the cold poison in his body was about to be cured and he picked up the medicine bowl enthusiastically and drank it in one gulp.

This medicine was not only pleasant to smell, but also not as deadly. Although it was still a bit bitter, it was within the range of Ji Qinghuai’s acceptance.

After taking the medicine, Ji Qinghuai felt a chill rise in his body shortly afterwards. He was all too familiar with the chill that gradually spread and intensified.

Seeing Ji Qinghuai’s face change, Xu Luo hurriedly urged, “Let’s go, go to the room.”

His body suddenly trembled as he put on his slippers and stood up. Qin Lang stretched out his hand to support him and felt a stinging cold as soon as he touched him.

Qin Lang was a person who rarely hung his emotions on his face. But at this moment, looking at the pale Ji Qinghuai, his eyes were full of distress.

Ji Qinghuai shook his head and signalled to Qin Lang that he was okay. However, it was only to comfort Qin Lang. He couldn’t even speak now, so how could he be okay?

Ji Qinghuai pulled his arm out of Qin Lang’s hand and walked slowly to the room. Qin Lang wanted to help him again, but Xu Luo took the lead. Ji Qinghuai looked at Xu Luo gratefully, and the two entered the room together.

As soon as the door was closed, Ji Qinghuai immediately reached out to support himself using the closet. He clenched his fists and frowned, his body trembling uncontrollably.

Xu Luo couldn’t bear to see Ji Qinghuai’s weakly appearance and helped him to sit down by the bed.

“I have to take off your shirt.”

Ji Qinghuai nodded gently in response.

Xu Luo didn’t delay for a single moment and immediately helped Ji Qinghuai take off his shirt. He bent over and opened his briefcase and took out a box. After opening it, he was greeted with the sight of silver needles of various thicknesses neatly placed inside.

Xu Luo took out the smallest and thinnest silver needle and warned Ji Qinghuai, “I’m going to start.”

He immediately focused and inserted the first needle.

The first needle was just to test the waters. Xu Luo was not sure how Ji Qinghuai would react, so he only dared to take the smallest, thinnest silver needle and pushed it into his arm. He observed Ji Qinghuai’s expression and saw that his brows were getting tighter while he bit on his lower lip.

Xu Luo quickly turned around, took out a small towel and folded it twice for Ji Qinghuai to bite on.

To force the cold poison out, the scattered cold qi must first be gathered in one place. All the veins would have to be sealed one by one before the cold qi can be drained out. One can only imagine how painful the process would be using external force. Xu Luo could feel his scalp turn numb just from thinking about it.

Xu Luo waited for a while to allow Ji Qinghuai to adjust to the pain. After a short time, he then inserted the second needle.

Ji Qinghuai bit the towel in his mouth. This time, he didn’t react as much as the first needle. but he was still frowning and squeezing his eyes shut without saying a word.

Xu Luo continued to insert the needles. The third needle, fourth needle…

As more needles were inserted, their thicknesses also gradually increased. With each needle penetrating him, Ji Qinghuai could no longer care about the cold permeating his body, instead, he was about to faint from the pain. It was so intense that his entire body turned numb.

Xu Luo finally breathed a sigh of relief when the 72nd silver needle was inserted.

This was the last one.

Ji Qinghuai bowed his head, his face devoid of any color. His originally tightly clenched fist had loosened and his face was much calmer.

Xu Luo knew that the time was almost up. He raised his hand and took out the silver needles on Ji Qinghuai’s chest, left shoulder, then his left arm. A total of twelve silver needles were removed. Xu Luo took out a dagger and cut through Ji Qinghuai’s wrist.

Suddenly, purple-black blood gushed out from the wound. Xu Luo frowned when he saw the colour but reacted quickly. He immediately grabbed a bottle from his briefcase and collected all the blood from Ji Qinghuai’s wrist.

After a while, Ji Qinghuai’s blood changed from purple and black into a bright red, but Xu Luo’s heart remained tense. He pulled out the remaining silver needles one by one and helped Ji Qinghuai treat the wound.

After doing this, Xu Luo helped Ji Qinghuai lie down slowly and covered him with a quilt.

Two hours, seventy-two needles. Ji Qinghuai felt as if he had survived a calamity and his entire being relaxed. He then went to sleep directly.

Xu Luo gently took his briefcase and left the room, closing the door carefully to not disturb Ji Qinghuai. He turned and whispered to Qin Lang who had been guarding outside, “Don’t disturb him, he probably won’t wake up today. ”

Knowing that Ji Qinghuai was okay, Qin Lang was finally relieved. ” Thank you.”

Xu Luo waved his hand, “It’s my duty as a doctor, and I and your brother get along quite well. There’s no need to be polite with me.”

After doing acupuncture for two hours, Xu Luo was a little tired. He put down the briefcase and sat on the sofa to rest.

Qin Lang poured a cup of tea for him.

The two were not familiar with each other and Qin Lang had always been quiet, so Xu Luo didn’t know what to talk about. The two of them sat silently and Xu Luo felt slightly awkward so he could only hold his teacup and sip his tea.

Suddenly, Qin Lang spoke up.

“How did you punish the doctor who sold fake medicine to my brother?”

Xu Luo paused his tea-drinking motion.

This Qin Lang, was he planning to trouble Xiang Yunfei?

He put down the teacup, “He has been fined and is now in prison. He’ll be released next week.”

Qin Lang already knew this so he nodded and said nothing.

Xu Luo rested for a while and didn’t want to stay in the awkward atmosphere any longer. He advised the other on some precautions to take note of and left a business card for Qin Lang to contact him. He then took his briefcase and left.

Qin Lang sent Xu Luo out, and when he returned, he walked to Ji Qinghuai’s door and gently pushed the door open.

On the bed, Ji Qinghuai lay quietly. For the first time in so many years, Qin Lang saw Ji Qinghuai sleep so honestly. His face was still pale and there were bite marks on his lower lip.

Qin Lang was accustomed to seeing Ji Qinghuai make a lot of noise, but now that he saw him like this, he couldn’t describe how uncomfortable it was.

He pulled a chair over, looked at Ji Qinghuai, and silently sat by the bed.

On Xu Luo’s side, as soon as he got home, he opened his WeChat and sent a message to Xie Yan.

Xu Luo: Mr Xie, I went to detoxify Ji Qinghuai today.

Xie Yan returned the message quickly.

Xie Yan: How is he?

Xu Luo: Fortunately, the process went smoothly, but it’ll probably take ten and a half months to recuperate.

Xu Luo remembered that Ji Qinghuai had said that Xie Yan had held him, and his gossiping heart was ignited again.

That was Mr Xie! It’s already difficult for others to get close, but he can’t believe that Ji Qinghuai actually managed it. Naturally, he’ll hold onto Ji Qinghuai!

Xu Luo was eagerly watching the excitement.

Xu Luo: But it’s really distressing to look at. The young master who has been spoiled and indulged since childhood, how can he suffer such a crime. I couldn’t even bear to look at his little pained face.

Xu Luo: Now that the person is resting, he won’t be able to wake up today. What will happen later is still uncertain, it depends on his body’s reaction.

Standing on the balcony, Xie Yan didn’t rush to reply after reading Xu Luo’s news.

He had seen how dangerous Ji Qinghuai’s cold poison was and he knew the specific process of detoxification. It was really not easy for Ji Qinghuai to survive.

Xie Yan was silent for a moment and sent a message to Xu Luo.

Xie Yan: How did you deal with the doctor who sold him the fake medicine?

Xu Luo: “...”

Xu Luo’s first reaction: Xiang Yunfei is about to face a great disaster.

Qin Lang was better off saying that. After all, he was a senior executive and couldn’t take the lead in committing crimes. At most, he could only beat up Xiang Yunfei to teach him a lesson.

Xu Luo: He didn’t make any serious mistakes, nor did he harm anyone. He was fined and is currently locked up.

Xie Yan: When will he be released?

Xu Luo: “...”

Xu Luo: Next week.

Xie Yan didn’t reply again.

Xu Luo waited for a long time without getting any reply, regretting that he messaged Xie Yan in the first place.

Regardless of whether Xiang Yunfei was honest or malicious, he couldn’t shirk the blame.

Xu Luo put his hands together and prayed to heaven.

Heaven forbid that someone dies.
