Ch43 - Visit

Ji Xianzhi stood in front of the desk in the study room and took the invitation from Qin Lang.

His expression was a little solemn as he opened the greeting card. His eyes skimmed over the graceful yet powerful handwriting and stopped at the signature.

Xie Yan.

At that moment, Ji Xianzhi was in a daze. He held the desk with one hand and sat down, pretending as if nothing happened.

“Get ready to welcome guests.”

At two o’clock in the afternoon, Xie Yan arrived as scheduled, and the person who came out to greet him was Qin Lang.

Qin Lang’s appearance was not surprising. He knew that Qin Lang and Ji Qinghuai were good friends and thought that he had come here to visit him.

The two of them nodded in greeting and Qin Lang turned around and walked ahead, leading the way for Xie Yan.

The two of them walked through the living room and went upstairs, heading straight for the study. Along the way, none of them spoke. Qin Lang stood in front of the study and said to Xie Yan, “Mr Xie, please.”

The door of the study was open and Ji Xianzhi was waiting for him inside. Xie Yan said to Qin Lang, “Thank you.”

After saying that, he pushed the door open and entered.

The door of the study was closed by Xie Yan. At the same time, Ji Xianzhi, who had been waiting for a long time, stood up from behind the desk. Xie Yan walked over and stopped three steps away from the desk.

“Uncle Ji, I’m bothering you.”

Ji Xianzhi reached out to the chair next to him, “Young Master Xie, please sit down.”

“No need.” Xie Yan simply refused. He didn’t want to make more polite talk with Ji Xianzhi, and said bluntly, “I’m here today for two things. The first one, my teacher asked me to bring a message for Mr Ji.”

“Young Master Xie.” Without waiting for him to complete his words, Ji Xianzhi interrupted him and took the initiative to apologise.

“It’s this father’s fault for not disciplining my son and causing him to make trouble in public. If Mr Shen wants someone to take responsibility, I’ll do it. I beg Mr Shen to give Ji Qinghuai another chance.”

Xie Yan looked at Ji Xianzhi’s anxious appearance and suddenly felt a little envious of Ji Qinghuai in his heart.

For those who have killed before, they would still retain a bit of warmth in their heart. In all these years, he had never seen Ji Xianzhi plead for mercy.

“You worry too much.” Xie Yan said, “Master does not intend to interfere in Mr Ji’s family matters.”

Ji Zhenzhi froze and quickly responded, “What is Mr Shen’s orders?”

Xie Yan’s expression was calm. “Master said that the Weisheng family does not need to participate in the four districts’ affairs for the time being.”

Hearing this, Ji Xianzhi breathed a sigh of relief. Since Shen Xie made it clear that he would not blame Ji Qinghuai, he could finally let go of his heart.

Once he relaxed, Ji Xianzhi couldn’t help but think that from his understanding of Shen Xie, he would never be so polite when he made this decision.

His original words should have been, “Don’t let the Weisheng family interfere with the four districts now, wait until that old thing Weisheng Minghong is dead.”

And this order was exactly what Ji Xianzhi wanted.

“What about the second thing?”

Hearing Ji Xianzhi’s question, Xie Yan chuckled, “I heard that Young Master Ji has been feeling unwell recently. As a friend, I’m here to visit.”

Ji Xianzhi: “…”

A question mark slowly appeared above the old father’s head.

When did Ji Qinghuai make friends with Xie Yan???

At this moment, Ji Qinghuai, who had no knowledge of Xie Yan’s visit, was lying on the bed watching anime. He had been in the room for three days, and he had read everything on his phone. Now he could only watch anime or movies to pass the time.

During these three days, Ji Qinghuai would occasionally chat with Xie Yan, but he was also busy with his job and he couldn’t keep spamming messages and bothering him so he tried to find other ways to divert his attention.

The progress bar signalled the end of the episode and the screen changed while the ending song sounded. He touched the screen with his fingertips to click the next episode and at the same time, there was a gentle knock on the door.

According to his family’s habit, they would come in by themselves after knocking on the door. Ji Qinghuai didn’t care and swiped the phone screen to skip the opening song and continued to watch his anime.

After a while, the person knocking on the door didn’t come in. Ji Qinghuai was a little puzzled. He thought that it was his family who was afraid of disturbing his sleep so he turned to the door and said, “I’m not asleep, come in.”

As his voice fell, the door was pushed open from the outside. A delicate and cold face caught Ji Qinghuai off guard.

Ji Qinghuai was stunned.

The anime was still playing on his phone and it was a bit noisy at this time. Ji Qinghuai lowered his head to close the playback interface, then turned back to look at the door, making sure that it was not an illusion caused by his lovesickness.

“Mr Xie, why are you here?” Ji Qinghuai’s face was filled with joy that couldn’t be concealed.

Xie Yan walked in, closed the door smoothly, and stood beside Ji Qinghuai’s bed, “I was meeting Mr Ji for something.”

Xie Yan’s eyes fell on Ji Qinghuai’s back covered with gauze all around his shoulders. The rest of his body was hidden in the quilt, preventing him from seeing where the gauze stopped. But judging from his posture, his punishment was quite severe.

Xie Yan moved his gaze calmly and turned to look at Ji Qinghuai, who was also looking at him with a pillow under his body.

Ji Qinghuai’s reaction was very calm. He thought that Xie Yan had only appeared for Ji Xianzhi. Although he was vain, in front of Xie Yan, he never thought that the other would do something specifically for him.

But seeing Ji Qinghuai’s reaction, Xie Yan was somewhat dissatisfied.

“Even if it’s not for official business, I’ll still come.” Xie Yan told the truth in his heart and added, “Come to see you.”

Xie Yan looked at Ji Qinghuai and captured every slight change in his expression. After saying this, he saw Ji Qinghuai’s eyes slowly brighten.

At first, hearing what Xie Yan said, Ji Qinghuai was very surprised. For a moment, he was stunned. But after returning to his senses, Ji Qinghuai felt happy, excited, and a little flattered.

So Xie Yan came here this time, just to see him, not just because it was on the way!

If it weren’t for the wounds on his body, Ji Qinghuai would have jumped up in joy.

Ji Qinghuai took a deep breath, telling himself to be calm and reserved. He tried to restrain his emotions and not embarrass himself in front of Xie Yan.

Xie Yan came to see Ji Xianzhi but he wasn’t interested in knowing what they discussed and only asked, “Have you seen my father then?”

“En.” Xie Yan replied.

Ji Qinghuai nodded slightly and then asked, “Then do you have anything else to do today?”

“No.”

Ji Qinghuai was even happier when he heard it.

“Then you stay…hiss…” He was so happy that he forgot that he was still wounded, and he got up so violently, he sucked in a cold breath.

Ji Qinghuai could only lie back down honestly, “Then you stay for dinner.”

According to Ji Qinghuai’s current condition, he would have to recuperate for at least a month or two before he could go out normally, which meant that he would not be able to see Xie Yan for a long time. He didn’t want Xie Yan to leave so early today so he asked him to stay for dinner.

And Xie Yan had also expected him to ask him to stay.

Early on, Xie Yan discovered that Ji Qinghuai was a bit clingy and this was particularly obvious during those few days he spent in the crew.

Ji Qinghuai had a straightforward temperament and would directly express his thoughts. He would take everything in stride and grasp opportunities to stick to him but he did it without making him feel too annoyed.

“En.” Xie Yan readily agreed to Ji Qinghuai’s proposal.

Seeing that he agreed, Ji Qinghuai picked up his mobile phone and sent a message to Qin Lang. Moving slightly, the quilt slipped off his body, revealing his injured back.

The gauze wrapped around Ji Qinghuai’s shoulders to his waist. Although Xie Yan couldn’t see the injuries under the gauze, the mere sight of it made Xie Yan’s heart thud.

Xie Yan stretched out his hand to help Ji Qinghuai with the quilt. Ji Qinghuai inadvertently raised his head, his eyes colliding with Xie Yan. He was standing right beside the bed and the distance between the two was extremely close. Ji Qinghuai only had to reach out a little to touch him.

At this time, the door of the room was knocked from the outside, and Xie Yan took two steps back quickly and saw Qin Lang push the door in.

Qin Lang was here to deliver fruit. Originally, guests were invited to the living room to entertain them, but Ji Qinghuai couldn’t get out of bed now. He was the only one who had a better relationship with Xie Yan, so Qin Lang had to bring the fruit up.

Before coming, Qin Lang received news from Ji Qinghuai that Xie Yan would stay for dinner. Although Qin Lang had no personal relationship with Xie Yan, they had worked together for many years, and he still had some understanding of Xie Yan.

Delivering a message to his father was only second. The main purpose of Xie Yan’s visit today was actually to see his brother. Ji Qinghuai knew what Xie Yan was thinking and Qin Lang also knew how Xie Yan was. For him to take the initiative to visit and agree to stay for dinner, proved one thing.

Maybe his brother was also thinking about it.

Thinking of this, Qin Lang didn’t plan to stay in the room longer. He put down the fruit tray and asked Ji Qinghuai, “Do you want anything else?”

Ji Qinghuai thought for a while, “I want to drink orange juice.”

“Okay.” Qin Lang responded, and then said to Xie Yan, “Excuse me.”

He then turned around and left.

After Qin Lang left, only Ji Qinghuai and Xie Yan were left in the room.

The fruit Qin Lang brought up included mangoes that had already been cut. Xie Yan pulled over a chair on the side and sat down, “Do you want some?”

Ji Qinghuai hummed.

Xie Yan picked up a piece of mango with the fork and passed it over. Ji Qinghuai wasn’t polite with him and directly bit into it.

Their actions were very natural and didn't feel ambiguous or strange. Both of them felt as if it was a very ordinary thing.

This was actually a habit formed by the two unintentionally.

During the half month Ji Qinghuai was at Xie Yan’s house, Xie Yan had fed the kitten a lot and the kitten was also used to his care and accepted it gladly. Now that Xie Yan was sure of his identity, he had completely put down his guard and was more careful with the little petulant and grudge-bearing wild cat.

On the other hand, Ji Qinghuai was already accustomed to Xie Yan’s care and with the memories of the time they spent together, this had become normal for him.

Xie Yan fed Ji Qinghuai mango while thinking, between him and Ji Qinghuai, there was only a thin layer of window paper between them. Only by breaking this layer of paper can they truly treat each other with sincerity.

But now was not the right time.
