After asking quite a few people along the way, Yang Chen finally arrived at the address of Longjing Garden. Upon arrival, he deeply realized just how wealthy his beautiful wife was.
Longjing Garden was an upscale villa area in the suburbs. Each villa was at least a mile apart, surrounded by pavilions, clear water, greenery, and European classical decor, exuding a rich and elegant atmosphere.
The security guards at the entrance looked at Yang Chen with some suspicion, curious as to why a wealthy person would walk in. However, seeing his expensive suit, they didn't stop him, saving him the trouble of explaining.
After entering Longjing Garden, Yang Chen walked for more than two kilometers to reach the villa at No. 89. The entire villa covered over 400 square meters, not including the outdoor swimming pool and large garage. The Baroque-style villa was built with heavy marble, making it hard to imagine the enormous cost of such a house.
After ringing the doorbell, the intricately carved redwood door was quickly opened by a woman in casual home clothes and an apron. She had some signs of age on her face but was well-preserved, looking not old at all, even in her forties or fifties. Seeing Yang Chen, she greeted him warmly with a hint of joy in her eyes: "Is this the son-in-law? The young lady said you would come today. Please come in."
Seeing that the woman was not at all unfamiliar, Yang Chen relaxed and smiled as he entered, asking, "What should I call you, ma'am?"
"My name is Wang Yulan. You can just call me Aunt Wang," Wang Yulan said with a broad smile. "How can you call me 'sister'? I've watched the young lady grow up. You can call me 'aunt' if you like."
"Aunt Wang doesn't look old at all. If you walked down the street, you'd definitely turn heads," Yang Chen said sincerely.
No woman dislikes being complimented, and Wang Yulan, though middle-aged, was no exception. She was even more delighted and, after inviting Yang Chen to sit down, said with a smile, "Son-in-law, please wait a moment. I'm almost done in the kitchen. I'll prepare a welcome meal for you. It's just a pity that the young lady has a meeting and can't come back."
"Does only you and Lin... oh, Ruoxi live in this house, Aunt Wang?" Yang Chen looked around. The entire villa was divided into three floors, fully equipped with modern appliances. There were white leather sofas, black marble floors, redwood furniture, and several famous paintings hanging on the walls. Blooming orchids swayed by the windows, giving the place a simple yet elegant feel. Looking at the large number of doors on the second and third floors, Yang Chen felt a sense of emptiness.
Wang Yulan sighed with a hint of melancholy, "Yes, it's just the two of us women living here. It's quite lonely, and the young lady is always busy with work, rarely at home. Usually, I'm the only one taking care of this big house. But now it's better. The young lady has you, son-in-law, so there's a man in the house. A home should have a man to feel complete."
Seeing Wang Yulan's contented face, Yang Chen couldn't help but ask curiously, "Aunt Wang, don't you find it strange that Ruoxi suddenly married me?"
"Ha ha," Wang Yulan laughed. "Son-in-law, I've watched the young lady grow up. She's never had a boyfriend before, and I've seen plenty of men chasing after her. But she never liked any of them. Now that she's marrying you, it must be because you're different. The young lady is so smart; I trust her judgment. What's so strange about it?"
Yang Chen nodded in understanding but muttered to himself, thinking how Wang Yulan could never guess that his marriage to Lin Ruoxi was a contractual one.
After a sumptuous lunch, Yang Chen was satisfied and patted his round belly, smiling, "Aunt Wang, your cooking is amazing. It's much better than those fancy restaurants."
Wang Yulan beamed with joy, "Really? Then you should eat more at home in the future. The young lady often has sudden things to do and doesn't come back, so I cook and no one eats it. It's a waste."
"That girl is squandering her blessings. Don't mind her, Aunt Wang. Just give me the good food in the future," Yang Chen patted his chest.
Wang Yulan knew Yang Chen was joking and nodded happily, agreeing.
After tidying up, Wang Yulan took off her apron and said, "Son-in-law, I'll show you the room you'll be sleeping in. If you need anything, just let me know, and I'll buy it for you."
"My room?" Yang Chen was taken aback, remembering his promise not to sleep with Lin Ruoxi.
Wang Yulan led the way, saying, "Son-in-law, the young lady thought of everything for you. She said you're used to sleeping alone, so she specially prepared a large, independent room for you and bought a lot of clothes for you."
"Is that so? Hmm... Ruoxi is quite considerate," Yang Chen rubbed his nose, feeling that the words sounded too fake.
"Of course, I've never seen the young lady care so much about any man before. Also, she said you're busy with work now, so you'll get married first and have the wedding banquet later when you have time. She's thought of everything for you," Wang Yulan said with a smile.
Yang Chen was sweating, thinking, "What's this all about? It seems the girl has already given Aunt Wang a heads-up, pushing everything onto me. What's so busy about selling skewers?"
Entering his room, Yang Chen was pleasantly surprised. The room was indeed unusually large, almost as big as the entire small apartment he had rented. The floor-to-ceiling windows had white curtains dancing in the breeze, a low-profile king-size bed, a large TV, an Apple computer on the bedside table, a classically decorated lamp, and a glossy wooden floor. In the corner, a huge two-story wardrobe was filled with new clothes, ties, and shoes.
Yang Chen smiled to himself, thinking that his beautiful wife hadn't neglected him, even preparing the props for the act.
"How do you like it, son-in-law? Are you satisfied?" Wang Yulan asked enthusiastically.
"Satisfied, of course. It's much better than I expected. Thank you, Aunt Wang," Yang Chen nodded.
"If you want to thank someone, thank the young lady. I just ran errands," Wang Yulan was already eager to help the young couple get along.
Yang Chen knew Wang Yulan's intentions but didn't point them out, "Aunt Wang, I have some things still at my old place. I need to go and get them, so I'll be leaving for a bit."
"That's understandable. There are always things you're used to using."
"However..." Yang Chen smiled awkwardly, "Aunt Wang, is there any means of transportation at home? Even a bicycle would do, to help me get there faster."
Wang Yulan looked at Yang Chen in surprise, as if she had seen something incredibly terrifying, "Son-in-law, did you walk here?"
"Unfortunately, you guessed right, Aunt Wang," Yang Chen shrugged.
Wang Yulan was speechless, "The young lady, how could she let you walk here? You can't be so casual living here. You should at least have a car. Son-in-law, follow me. There are a few cars at home that are usually idle. You can take any one of them."
Yang Chen's eyes lit up. He had been eyeing the Bentley Continental that Lin Ruoxi drove, but he didn't have the money to buy a car. Could he really get one for free now?
