Just a moment ago, Yuan Ye, who had been resolutely promising to stand up for Tang Tang, was stunned by the sudden turn of events and stood there speechless. The two little boys who had witnessed Yang Chen’s driving skills were also dumbfounded, hiding behind Yuan Ye in fear, not daring to look at Yang Chen again.
Only Tang Tang’s eyes sparkled with an unusual light, as if she had seen something extremely exciting, her gaze shifting rapidly as she looked at Yang Chen.
Yang Chen clapped his hands, shook his head in dissatisfaction, and smiled mockingly at Yuan Ye, “Young Master, do you still want to stand up for this little girl?”
Originally, Yang Chen thought that Yuan Ye would choose to back down and not force the issue when he saw the overwhelming advantage. However, Yuan Ye’s reaction was unexpected.
After a brief moment of hesitation, Yuan Ye firmly continued to stand in front of Tang Tang, his tone no longer arrogant but still very serious, “I admit your skills are impressive, but don’t think that will scare us. I will definitely protect Tang Tang.”
Tang Tang clearly didn’t expect Yuan Ye to protect her so resolutely, and her eyes showed a hint of gratitude, though she didn’t say much in thanks.
Yang Chen grinned strangely, “I didn’t expect you to be such a devoted person. Not bad, not bad, you’re quite like me, Uncle.” Having just won a bet, Yang Chen laughed heartily and turned to walk back to his M3.
“Are you just going to leave like this!?” Yuan Ye was taken aback, realizing that Yang Chen had let him off.
Yang Chen sat back in the driver’s seat, winking at Yuan Ye, “You’re called Yuan Ye, right? Some of what I say might sound like I’m putting on an act, and some might sound cliché, but since you’re not a bad person at heart, I’ll tell you this: don’t be too arrogant. There are always people better than you, and the sky is always higher. I’m just giving you some advice, nothing more. But now, you won’t stop me from going home, right?”
The two boys who had been blocking the road had long since hidden to the side, and no one dared to stand in his way. Yang Chen started the car and quickly left the scene.
Watching the BMW drive away and disappear, Yuan Ye and Tang Tang finally came to their senses, both feeling somewhat bewildered.
“What a strange person,” Yuan Ye said, a mix of fear and admiration on his handsome face.
Tang Tang, on the other hand, looked fresh and lively, her bright, beautiful eyes filled with mischief, and no one could guess what ideas were swirling in her mind.
Back at the Longjing Villa, as soon as they entered, Aunt Wang greeted them with a warm smile, “Master has returned. Have you eaten? If not, I can reheat the food for you.”
Yang Chen rubbed his stomach; he had been so busy with Qiangwei in the afternoon and then with the car race and the fight that he had forgotten to eat. He immediately smiled and asked Aunt Wang to serve the food.
Sitting at the dining table, he ate two large bowls of rice, then satisfied, he burped and said to Aunt Wang, who looked very pleased, “It’s different having someone cook at home, especially when it’s as good as Aunt Wang’s.”
Aunt Wang, while clearing the table, smiled, “I’m glad Master likes it. Compared to what Master can do, I can only cook and take care of the house.”
“What do you mean?” Yang Chen was a bit confused.
Hesitating for a moment, Aunt Wang’s face showed a hint of bitterness, “Master, today, if it weren’t for you, Miss might have been very upset again. Earlier, Mr. Lin came and...”
Yang Chen suddenly understood, thinking of the incident with Lin Kun and Lin Ruoxi earlier in the day. He couldn’t help but laugh and cry, “I saw that Ruoxi was already very angry. Being called that by her own father, any girl would be upset.”
Aunt Wang shook her head, “Master doesn’t know, Miss was angry, but not as much as the last two times. A few days ago, Mr. Lin forced Miss to go on a date with the Xu family’s young master and used the old house to pressure her. Miss was so upset that she went out drinking and came back smelling of alcohol. The night before last, she didn’t even come home and spent the night outside. I’ve watched Miss grow up, and she’s always been very disciplined. If she wasn’t extremely upset, she wouldn’t have gotten so drunk.”
Yang Chen rubbed his nose awkwardly, thinking of how she had been drugged and mistaken for a hotel worker, and he had slept with her. If it weren’t for that, they might not even know who was who.
“Now it’s better,” Aunt Wang said with relief, “With Master here, Mr. Lin won’t be able to bully Miss so easily. It’s good to have a man in the house.”
Yang Chen felt a bit embarrassed and changed the subject, “Aunt Wang, where’s Ruoxi? Has she eaten?”
Aunt Wang smiled bitterly, “Miss is working in the study upstairs. She was disturbed by Mr. Lin’s visit and only started working in the evening. She said she was too busy to eat dinner.”
“That’s not right. People need food to function, even if they work hard,” Yang Chen frowned.
“I know, but Miss is very stubborn. When she’s working, she doesn’t allow us to knock on the door or bring her anything. She gets upset if we do,” Aunt Wang said, her face showing both helplessness and concern.
Yang Chen thought for a moment. Although he didn’t know what the future held, she was his wife now, and it wouldn’t be good for her to go hungry. He said, “Aunt Wang, can you prepare a meal for me? I’ll take it to Ruoxi.”
“Really? Maybe Miss will eat if you bring it,” Aunt Wang seemed to have been hoping Yang Chen would say this and happily ran to the kitchen.
Soon, Yang Chen was carrying a tray of hot food up to the second floor, where Lin Ruoxi’s study was. The large red door was tightly closed, and he couldn’t hear any sounds from inside.
Yang Chen knocked on the door, but there was no response. Using his exceptional hearing, he could tell the study was unusually quiet.
With a bit of curiosity, Yang Chen opened the door and quietly walked in.
As soon as he entered, he was greeted by a room filled with neatly arranged books, the scent of paper and Lin Ruoxi’s unique fragrance permeating the air. Two elegant bamboo plants flanked a large redwood desk, which was piled high with documents and books.
At that moment, Lin Ruoxi was sitting in a black leather swivel chair, leaning over the desk, fast asleep.
Her beautiful face, usually cold, softened in sleep. Her long, curved lashes, delicate nose, and tender, rosy lips all looked gentle and endearing. Her long, black hair, shining under the bright desk lamp, enhanced her already ethereal beauty, making the scene even more poetic.
Seeing his wife’s vulnerable side, Yang Chen felt a pang of emotion. A woman, under so much pressure, still worked so hard. No wonder she was so beautiful but rarely smiled. Thinking of this, Yang Chen couldn’t help but feel a bit of sympathy.
After placing the food on the desk, Yang Chen looked around the study, took a thick coat from the coat rack, and slowly approached, gently covering Lin Ruoxi with it, careful not to wake her. After covering her, he turned off the desk lamp, making the room dim, and quietly left.
Downstairs, Aunt Wang was busy in the kitchen. Yang Chen, seeing it was still early, turned on the large LED TV in the living room and lay on the comfortable sofa to watch the evening news.
But he hadn’t been watching for long when he heard footsteps coming down the stairs. He turned around to see Lin Ruoxi, holding the coat he had given her, looking at him with a complex expression.
