42 When the first rays of dawn shone into the large bedroom, Yang Chen sprang up from the bed, full of energy, put on his clothes, and prepared to leave.
Roses, still half-asleep, pouted in dissatisfaction, showing none of the toughness of a mafia boss. She looked like an ordinary woman, complaining to herself, "I told you not to do it in the water yesterday. I feel like I’m swollen down there."
Yang Chen looked conflicted, "If you do it in the water, you’ll swell. My dear Rose, don’t you know any basic medical knowledge? What does swelling mean?"
"I don’t care, you’re heartless." Roses threw a pillow at Yang Chen.
Yang Chen smiled a bit embarrassedly, "It’s fine. After doing it more, you’ll get used to it. Everything gets better with practice, right?"
Roses spat, half-laughing and half-crying, "What kind of ‘practice’? You’re just talking nonsense. I really don’t know why I fell for such a shameless rogue."
The two teased each other for a while. Remembering that he needed to go home to change clothes for work, Yang Chen, after fondling Roses’ plump buttocks, hurriedly left the bar.
When he arrived at the Longjing Villa, it was just breakfast time. Aunt Wang, wearing an apron, was bringing out breakfast from the kitchen. Seeing Yang Chen come home, Aunt Wang was first surprised, then showed a concerned look and asked, "Son-in-law, where were you all night? Miss and I were worried."
As soon as Aunt Wang finished speaking, Lin Ruoxi, who was sitting at the table drinking millet porridge, frowned and said coldly, "I wasn’t worried."
Seeing his wife, who looked as if someone owed her money, Yang Chen didn’t mind. He sat down, scooped a bowl of porridge, and savored it. The millet porridge was smooth and fragrant with a hint of coriander.
"Aunt Wang, how can you make such delicious porridge!"
Aunt Wang smiled and said, "If you like it, have more." Then she went back to the kitchen to continue her work.
Yang Chen finished a bowl in two big gulps and was about to scoop another when Lin Ruoxi immediately moved the large bowl of porridge to her side, clearly not intending to let him have any more.
Yang Chen felt frustrated and smiled bitterly, "My dear Ruoxi, you won’t even let me have a bowl of porridge for breakfast?"
"You’ve already had two sips. And stop calling me that, it’s disgusting." Lin Ruoxi put the bowl aside and continued to drink it in small sips.
"Is it really just a small bowl of porridge..." Yang Chen muttered, then suddenly thought of something and asked with a smile, "Are you mad at me, Ruoxi? Did you get jealous because I didn’t come home last night?"
Lin Ruoxi didn’t even look up and said coldly, "I’m not interested in your affairs."
"Why won’t you let me have the porridge!" Yang Chen was puzzled.
"Aunt Wang made it for me. You solve your own problem."
Yang Chen hesitated, thinking it was a bit ridiculous to force the porridge. Remembering that he had promised to bring breakfast to his female colleagues at the office, he didn’t push further. He went upstairs to change clothes and was about to leave.
Seeing Yang Chen about to leave, Aunt Wang asked curiously, "Son-in-law, aren’t you going to eat more? There are still some steamed buns inside."
"Oh, I have something to do in the morning. I’ll eat outside." Yang Chen glanced longingly at the coriander-flavored millet porridge in the large bowl and finally patted his butt and walked out the door.
Aunt Wang sighed and walked to Lin Ruoxi’s side, earnestly saying, "Miss, Son-in-law is a good person. You two should live in harmony. Don’t be so hard on him."
Lin Ruoxi stopped her actions and said calmly, "Aunt Wang, don’t worry. If he wants to eat outside, let him. It’s up to him."
"Men, when they’re young, always like to play around. Miss, if you treat Son-in-law better, those women outside can’t compare to you. Then he won’t stay out all night." Aunt Wang was a bit persistent.
Lin Ruoxi seemed to have had enough and stood up, putting down her chopsticks, "Aunt Wang, I’m full. I’m going to work."
Seeing Lin Ruoxi’s unwillingness to continue, Aunt Wang knew the stubborn Miss was annoyed and sighed, starting to clear the table.
The morning’s little drama didn’t affect Yang Chen’s mood. He listened to the morning news and drove to the vegetable market in the west district. He stopped near the place where he used to sell lamb skewers and started gathering various breakfast items.
Having been a vendor, he naturally knew the various breakfast stalls in the area. Many people were familiar with Yang Chen, and they all greeted him warmly when he arrived. After buying buns, they even gave him a few more.
Soon, Yang Chen returned to his car with several large bags of breakfast items. He was a bit disappointed not to see Old Li’s stall, thinking he might not know what happened last night.
Thinking of Old Li, Yang Chen felt he needed to ask Zhang Hu to take care of the small vendors here. After all, they had been friendly with him for the past six months.
When he arrived at Yulei International, he just managed to avoid being late. He got out of the elevator and entered the public relations department’s large office. Immediately, two brightly dressed female colleagues came up to him, laughing, "Brother Yang, why did you come so late? We’re all starving." It seemed Zhao Hongyan had indeed told them that Yang Chen was responsible for buying breakfast.
Yang Chen lifted the two large bags of food, "There’s quite a lot. I’ll buy earlier next time."
As he spoke, he walked to his desk, which was the simplest, with only a computer, making it suitable for placing food.
More than ten young female employees immediately gathered around, creating a lively scene. Seeing the variety of buns, scallion rolls, steamed buns, fried cakes, oil sticks, fried rice cakes, pan-fried dumplings, and soup buns on Yang Chen’s desk, they were amazed and looked at him with admiration.
"Yang Chen, you’re amazing. How did you buy so much, and without repeating anything?" Zhang Cai, with her round face, grabbed a soup bun, took a bite, and praised him.
"Did you specialize in breakfast procurement? You’re so professional. How did you even get beef and soy milk, and both sweet and salty soy milk?" Zhao Hongyan was also surprised by Yang Chen’s “dedication,” finding it much more diverse than what they usually bought.
Seeing his female colleagues happily praising him, Yang Chen felt both gratified and proud, completely forgetting that he had originally applied for a public relations position, not a breakfast procurement role.
"Everyone take what you like. If you have a favorite, let me know, and I’ll bring more next time," Yang Chen said with a bit of pride, not forgetting to boast, "When you do something, do it seriously. Meeting the needs of the people is something I, a person of high moral character, am most willing to do. Back in the day, I was almost a Young Pioneer!"
