As the midsummer night slowly descended, it enveloped the bustling city of Zhonghai in a seemingly peaceful darkness, with only the brilliant neon lights illuminating the faces of the pedestrians on the streets.

Along the ring road, the eight-lane highway that stretches in both directions, countless cars flashed by like meteors, either entering the city center or leaving this stifling concrete fortress.

In the northern part of Zhonghai, along the Yangtze River, there was a green belt with sparse streetlights and fireflies dancing beneath them. This was a rare patch of tranquility, even though it still radiated the heat accumulated from the day.

Not far away, the endless river flowed like a jade belt under the vast sky, echoing the Milky Way above, reflecting a long row of white buildings along the riverbank...

This was the most expensive First Hospital in Zhonghai, where the serene environment helped patients recover better, but the high cost made ordinary people hesitate and step back in shock.

At this moment, in the hospital's ward, Yang Chen and Aunt Wang sat on a long bench designed for waiting, quietly waiting outside the intensive care unit.

Yang Chen had been silent for a long time, finally showing some impatience. He reached into his pocket to take out a cigarette but suddenly remembered he was in a hospital and reluctantly put it back, sighed, and stood up to pace.

"Son-in-law," Aunt Wang's eyes were red, having just finished crying. She asked worriedly, "Son-in-law, why haven't the doctors and nurses come out yet? Is there something wrong with Miss Lin?"

"Don't worry. Although I'm not a doctor, I do know some medical principles. Ruo Xi will be fine," Yang Chen reassured her, but the scenes from when he brought Lin Ruo Xi to the hospital in the evening kept flashing through his mind, making it hard for him to feel at ease.

Just after he threw Lin Kun into the trash can and turned around, he saw Lin Ruo Xi, standing on the lawn, suddenly weaken and fall to the ground!

Yang Chen, like an arrow, ran to Lin Ruo Xi's side and lifted her up, only to find that she had fainted!

His countless experiences made him not panic like Aunt Wang. He calmly took out his phone, called for an ambulance, and carried Lin Ruo Xi back into the house.

After a quick examination, he found that Lin Ruo Xi had a high fever, so he immediately asked Aunt Wang to bring cold towels and other emergency supplies, and took care of her until the ambulance arrived and took her to the hospital.

A series of events left Yang Chen feeling very uneasy. Although this cold and unfeeling woman had never given him a good look, he found himself genuinely worried and scared for her.

Was it because she looked so much like that person? Or because she was his nominal wife? Or perhaps, just because of her.

While Yang Chen was lost in thought, the door to the ward opened. Aunt Wang was the first to rush forward, grabbing the doctor's arm and asking, "Doctor, how is Miss Lin?"

The doctor gave a reassuring smile, "Don't worry, she's out of danger. The fever has subsided, and she needs to rest and recuperate."

"That's good... that's good..." Aunt Wang shed tears of joy, "Thank you, doctor."

The doctor looked at the notes in his hand and asked somewhat tactfully, "Has Miss Lin been under a lot of work pressure recently?"

Aunt Wang was taken aback but answered truthfully, "Yes, doctor. Miss Lin has always been very dedicated to her work, but she has been staying up late lately. Is there a problem with that?"

"Miss Lin's body is very weak. According to our diagnosis, it's due to long-term work pressure and excessive mental stress," the doctor said with a frown. "This fever is also because her body is weak and she caught a cold from not getting enough rest. If this continues, even if she recovers this time, it will happen again. After a few more times, it will become a chronic condition, and her health will completely deteriorate."

Aunt Wang's heart leaped to her throat, "Doctor, what... what should we do? We must cure Miss Lin."

"Don't worry, it's not a serious illness. The patient needs careful recuperation," the doctor smiled. "If she can stay in the hospital for about half a month and receive some traditional and Western treatments, she will recover."

Aunt Wang's face showed concern, "Half a month... I'm afraid Miss Lin won't agree to that."

"She must agree," Yang Chen said calmly, his tone leaving no room for negotiation. He then asked the doctor, "Doctor, besides the traditional and Western treatments, what else is needed?"

"Who is this...?"

"I am Lin Ruo Xi's husband. My name is Yang Chen."

The doctor showed a hint of surprise but quickly smiled, "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know Miss Lin was married. Mr. Yang, if you have time, you can accompany your wife to the hospital garden during her free time to breathe fresh air. The patient's mental stress needs to be relieved, not just physical treatment."

Yang Chen nodded in agreement.

At a young age, Lin Ruo Xi had taken control of the fashion industry giant, Yule International, with no family to support her. Her only father had done nothing but cause her trouble. She had to deal with so many cunning enemies in the business world, and her personal life was lonely and helpless, even being coveted by rich young men like Xu Zhihong. The fact that she had managed to hold on until now was enough to command respect.

After the medical staff left, Aunt Wang sighed and said, "Son-in-law, since Miss Lin must be hospitalized, I'll go back and pack some necessary luggage. We can't let her wake up and find she has nothing."

"You've worked hard, Aunt Wang." Yang Chen smiled sincerely. In fact, Lin Ruo Xi was not entirely alone; at least she had Aunt Wang, who had watched her grow up and never left her side.

Aunt Wang shook her head, feeling touched, "I only did some trivial things. If it weren't for you, Son-in-law, Miss Lin might have been driven to a dead end by her father. You've done something truly remarkable. Miss Lin's choice of you was the right one."

Yang Chen gave a self-deprecating smile, not entirely agreeing. If he didn't have the skills, Lin Ruo Xi would probably have been driven to a dead end by Lin Kun. But fate had led her to a fake marriage with him, and he had unexpectedly won the "jackpot."

After Aunt Wang left, Yang Chen gently pushed open the wooden door of the ward and quietly walked into the room.

The room was dimly lit, with only the bedside lamp casting a soft glow over the white bed.

Lin Ruo Xi's black hair was spread out, and her usually cold and stern face now looked fragile, like a willow swaying in the wind. Her eyes were closed, and her breathing was even, but her eyebrows were slightly furrowed, as if her dreams were not pleasant.

Even in her dreams, she was troubled?

Yang Chen sat down in a chair by the bed, lost in thought as he looked at the sleeping woman. Her features, her facial structure, her aura—all were so similar to that person from the past... Gradually, he lost track of time...

"Knock knock."

The door to the ward was suddenly knocked on twice. Before Yang Chen could turn around, someone quietly pushed the door open and walked in.
