This is my first post. I plan to take it easy with the main character.
"Here, registration is complete. My condolences."
Huh? Did I just hear "my condolences"? Was I mistaken?
The adventurers around me looked at me with complicated, grim expressions. The woman at the counter neatly arranged the necessary documents for issuing the guild certificate and handed them to the adjacent clerk.
Did I do something strange?
I turned away from the counter and hurried to the bulletin board where the requests were posted. I started browsing for my first memorable request, humming a tune.
From today, I am an adventurer. The thought made my heart race.
I am about to relive the beginning of the adventures that the heroes of old experienced.
Well, let's start the adventure!
With my heart pounding, I glared at the bulletin board.
The morning sun, breaking through the clouds, brightly illuminated the bulletin board. The sunlight reflecting off the paper was so dazzling that tears welled up in my eyes.
It's not that I want to become strong. It's just that my youngest sibling has grown up and can no longer live at home. I had to leave the house I was used to at the age of fourteen.
I feel so lonely that I want to cry, but I don't want to be a burden to anyone.
I didn't want to make any decisions.
I wanted to test myself.
So, I have no choice but to do it.
I will become strong to survive. I will become an adventurer.
While looking at the requests, I kept telling myself, "Don't look back."
There were two things in my family that were not fitting for our status. One was my beautiful and kind mother, who came from a noble family. The other was a thirty-volume set of a beautifully bound book titled "The Story of the Summoned Hero," which tells the tale of a hero who defeats the demon king after being summoned from another world.
It was something that didn't quite fit a rural noble family, collected by one of the ancestors a few generations back.
To be honest, "The Story of the Summoned Hero" is an incredible epic. Among the many heroic tales, there is no story as thrilling as this one in the entire country.
First, the fact that it takes place in another world was a hit. The protagonist, who comes from a world advanced in 'science' that doesn't rely on magic, is mysterious and cool. He has special abilities due to the dimensional influence. It was a thrilling setup. I remember he can use ultra-magics called "Musou" and "Cheats."
Yet, the protagonist is fundamentally humble and honest. The story is morally excellent. The strong and kind protagonist liberates oppressed slaves and subhumans, rescues kidnapped princesses, and completes difficult quests while gathering companions. He uses his knowledge of the other world to create unique dishes, build waterwheels, concoct expensive medicines, and even make weapons and armor, build houses, and construct flying ships, creating all sorts of useful things in this world.
And he marries the women he saves who have nowhere to go. I think one wife is enough, but the protagonist is too kind and ends up marrying all the girls and young girls who have lost their homes. This leads to a harem situation, which my father told me is a tough situation for a man. I still remember how my mother stood behind my father, glaring at him with a terrifying expression. From her expression, I could infer that it must have been a dramatic event. Heroes are amazing. However, the volume that should contain the dramatic events of that night was confiscated by my mother and I have never been allowed to read it. What is a harem? Thanks to this, the story after that has become a bit disjointed in my mind. My father proudly explained that the protagonist's struggle to manage his wives as a team is depicted very realistically. It is said that the realism of "heroes are human too" is depicted to the fullest. I want to read it as soon as possible.
It seems that the protagonist's decision to have black hair and black eyes is also for the sake of realism. But if he is really all black, what about the line of my ancestors?
My father has always believed that we are descendants of the hero due to our family's special circumstances. I grew up thinking that it might be true, looking at my extraordinary siblings.
But both my grandfather and my father have brown hair and eyes. There isn't a single black-haired or black-eyed person in the family. As for me, I look like my mother, with blonde hair and blue eyes. Recently, my eyes have turned green due to the influence of magic, making me stand out even more among my siblings. My features are like my father's, but I feel a bit out of place. While it is said to be a good sign for someone who uses magic, I am honestly just good at looking the part and have no real power. I can't even start a proper fire.
Anyway, I have finally turned fourteen. When you come of age, you have to decide whether to inherit the family or leave. Since the eldest son, Andrea, is naturally the heir, the youngest must leave. The second son, Elman, has already joined the knight corps and lives in the capital. The eldest daughter, Regina, for some reason, is serving as a bodyguard to a princess. She is the most successful member of our family.
I don't have the talent for swords or magic like my siblings. The only thing I have is the knowledge I have dug up from the information sleeping in "The Story of the Summoned Hero." Even if I am mocked as a bean sprout, the power I aim for is there.
"Hey, you there, Ernest Vionetti."
While looking at the bulletin board, I was stopped by a male guild staff member.
"What is it?"
"Didn't you hear the announcement? This guild in the city is for intermediate to advanced adventurers. So, you won't find any suitable requests there. All the available requests are C-rank or higher, for intermediate to advanced adventurers who go to the dungeons."
"Huh?"
