Chapter 8

4 min read1,016 words

"Wh-what... an orc... Lord Takumi, thank you so much. When Miss said she was going to the forest to get medicine and ran out of the mansion, I didn't know what to do... I was just gathering a team to head to the forest a moment ago."

"Haha, it's nothing much. Besides, the one who actually helped was this Leo."

"Woof!"

He keeps thanking me over and over, but I really didn't do anything.

I just found Miss Claire while moving to get out of the forest.

It was Leo who actually defeated the orc.

While petting Leo's proud head, I explained to Sebastian.

"Lord Takumi used a familiar to save Miss. But this familiar... could it be...?"

"Sebastian, I saw Lord Leo tear the orc apart with his claws. I think that's something only a Silver Fenrir can do."

"I had a hunch from its appearance, but I didn't think it was really a Silver Fenrir... No, I knew from literature, but I never thought I'd see one with my own eyes."

"Yes, I never thought I'd see one either."

"The Silver Fenrir is a symbol of this country and an absolutely inviolable existence. I never thought anyone could have it as a familiar..."

"Um... it's not really a familiar... I just picked him up a few years ago... He's attached to me, but I don't think of him as a familiar. I think of him as a partner."

"Woof woof!"

"Pick up a Silver Fenrir... I never thought such a thing was possible..."

Leo leaned in close after hearing my words, so I petted his head again.

But Sebastian seems more surprised that I picked him up rather than that he's my partner.

"Mr. Takumi, the Silver Fenrir is also known for being a species that values family. Picking up a Silver Fenrir's cub is something that shouldn't be possible, as the parents are usually nearby."

"Is that so?"

Well, it's not a Silver Fenrir but a Maltese.

I just found him in a cardboard box on the side of the road.

I didn't see any parent dogs around, and I guess they couldn't raise the puppies for some reason.

"What kind of person are you, Lord Takumi?"

"We can hear more about Mr. Takumi later. Tylra, your fever hasn't gone down yet, right? Mr. Takumi found the Lamogi. With this, Tylra should be cured."

"Indeed, even the discovery of the Lamogi. I don't know how to thank Lord Takumi."

"Anyway, standing here talking isn't good. Let's go into the mansion first."

"Forgive me. Lord Takumi, welcome to the Liebert family's villa. I and all the servants welcome you."

Saying this, Sebastian bowed and opened the mansion's entrance wide, inviting us in.

Miss Claire, being familiar with the place, walked in without a care, and Leo followed her leisurely.

I've never been in such a luxurious mansion or been welcomed by a butler before. I wonder if I know the proper etiquette...

I tried not to show it, but I was nervous as I entered the mansion.

"Welcome back, Miss Claire!"

As we entered the mansion, the maids and other butlers lined up in what seemed to be the entrance hall to welcome us.

I was more overwhelmed by this than the building itself.

I thought there would be a few servants, but there were so many...

There must be about 20 in total.

"Thank you for the welcome. Sebastian, please take this Lamogi."

"Understood."

"These are the people who helped me. Please treat them with respect."

"Understood!"

While handing the Lamogi to Sebastian, Miss Claire addressed the other servants.

In response, more than half of the servants dispersed in different directions.

Two maids came to me.

"Thank you for saving Miss Claire. I am Laila and will be in charge of your care."

"I am Gerta and will also be in charge of your care."

"...Thank you."

I've never met a maid before, so I don't know how to react.

If I had gone to a maid café, I might have known.

I'm overwhelmed by the maids, but also by the entrance hall.

It's so wide that even with over 20 people, it doesn't feel crowded. A red carpet runs from the entrance down the middle and up the stairs.

This entrance hall... I've seen something like it before...

Ah, that's it.

It's from a horror game where you shoot zombies with a gun.

I tried it once at a colleague's recommendation, but it wasn't my favorite genre, and I didn't have time to finish it.

Besides, I spent more time playing with Leo than playing games when I had free time.

The entrance hall in that horror game is similar, but it doesn't feel scary with all the people around.

It even feels warm.

Maybe it's because the faces of the maids and butlers are bright?

But I should probably avoid coming to this entrance hall at night when no one is around...

"Mr. Takumi, I'm going to check on Tylra... my sister."

"Ah, yes."

"Laila, Gerta, be on your best behavior."

"Yes, Miss."

"We will do our best!"

Leaving these words with the two maids, Miss Claire went up the stairs.

She must be worried about her sister; she's a kind person.

Laila is a beautiful woman with long black hair, and Gerta is a tense, freckled woman with short brown hair.

You don't have to be so nervous; I'm fine with being treated casually.

"Lord Takumi, I will guide you to the guest room. This way."

"Please, this way!"

"Ah... and. Leo... is it okay for him to come too?"

"Yes, the guest room is spacious enough."

"It's fine!"

"That's good. Then I'll leave it to you."

"Woof!"
