The Ninth Sentence Part 1
The next day, Pu Tao got up early in the morning to prepare a bento. She put a lot of effort in arranging it before she took a picture.
This pretentious habit had been going on for a while. After she finally put together nine beautiful pictures, she uploaded all of them on Moments in one go and made it visible only to Cloud Dweller.
She had opened up to a barren meadow and with the most meticulous care, she managed to turn it into a private garden that was only available to Cloud Dweller. He could see it by pushing the window open.
Unfortunately, Pu Tao was looking forward to it all morning and couldn’t wait for Cloud Dweller to make a move.
Intentionally or not, she went to his window to ask what was going on.
During the lunch break, she immediately sent him a message: “Have you eaten yet?”
Cloud Dweller’s reply was not slow: “Not yet.”
Pu Tao logically responded with: “I am eating my own bento.”
Cloud Dweller: “I saw it.”
Pu Tao was at a loss for words for a while. She wanted to ask him if she was not worthy of comments and likes. Were the pictures in the nine frame template that she painstakingly produced just some ordinary scenery that flashed by him? But she put up with it, and eventually she could only innocently say: “Oh? What did you see?”
Cloud Dweller: “I saw a big garlic 1 .”
Pu Tao understood instantly: “…What.”
Cloud Dweller: “It doesn’t suit you.”
Pu Tao revealed the whole truth: “Can you not embarrass me?”
Cloud Dweller: “Is it bad to speak straightforwardly?”
Pu Tao: “But the bento was made by me, I’m not an Internet pirate.”
Cloud Dweller: “I know.”
Pu Tao’s heart skipped a beat because his tone of voice suddenly became serious.
Of course, this tone was only coming from her brain. In other words, the “ I know ” could just be his simple and usual reply.
Pu Tao could not restrain her insatiable greed. She put down her chopsticks and asked, “Then when you looked at the nine photos, were you even an itty-bitty impressed?”
Cloud Dweller: “I saved one.”
He took a sidestep to the question and neatly answered with vagueness.
Pu Tao’s chest was suddenly tight: “Which one?”
Cloud Dweller: “The one with the cat head rice ball.”
Pu Tao raised her head and rubbed it against the back of her chair, as if she was trying to shed off some of the great joy she could not bear: “Is my head like this cat’s head?”
Cloud Dweller: “It’s like Da Tiao’s head.”
Pft.
Teehee.
Pu Tao’s heart was raising an angry small pink pig. She clenched her teeth and typed: “Is there any difference between us?”
Cloud Dweller: “There should be.”
He was deliberately disagreeing with her.
Yet, she was still smiling from ear to ear: “I think my avatar is becoming more lovely. The photographer must be very good and really likes the cat in order to take these kinds of food photos.”
Cloud Dweller: “Okay, compliments to the backbone member 2 .”
Pu Tao: “I’m flattered.”
Pu Tao happily ate half an egg and asked, “Why aren’t you eating yet?”
Cloud Dweller: “I am meeting my friend for lunch. I am waiting for him.”
Pu Tao: “Him.”
Cloud Dweller: “?”
Pu Tao repeated: “Him.”
Cloud Dweller: “…”
Pu Tao: “Why not use ‘it’ so that I can dig into my heart and scratch my liver 3 without thinking about tea or wanting rice 4 ?”
Cloud Dweller: “I live in the human world, not the animal planet.”
Pu Tao: “…”
Pu Tao: “Can you send a sample of your voice to prove that you really are human?”
Her ability to make use of every second with him was admirable.
Cheng Su tapped the table with one hand, and laughed out of speechlessness.
Pu Tao mocked herself: “Am I like one of those creepy men who keeps trying to start a conversation with a female student and then wants to take a selfie with her out of nowhere?”
Cloud Dweller: “Oh, so you realize it.”
Pu Tao was serious: “Well, my self-perception is relatively clear and accurate.”
Pu Tao: “I’m just pursuing your voice and I realized it.”
Cheng Su was about to reply when someone tapped him on the left shoulder. He looked up. His friend had showed up.
“What are you looking at that’s making you laugh like that?” His friend asked and sat in the seat in front of him.
Cheng Su pushed the button to turn off his phone’s screen and still did not stop his lips from rising: “I’m looking at the way a five year old is talking.”
“It’s that funny?” The friend sipped his tea.
Cheng Su let out a low “Yeah”.
The friend asked, “Did you order already?”
Cheng Su: “I was waiting for you to come.”
The friend smiled: “I thought I could eat when I arrived.”
Cheng Su: “Isn’t it your treat?”
“Oh… okay.” The friend flagged down the waitress and asked her for the menu.
Taking advantage of the time his friend was ordering food, Cheng Su picked up his cell phone and took a look at Wechat.
There was a notification that a message had been recalled.
