Chapter 8

The wind picked up, and a chilling atmosphere enveloped the humans and the wolves. Now, no amount of cunning or deceit could change the situation; what followed would be a clash of strength.

Ironically, humans have always considered themselves the most intelligent beings on the planet, the rulers of this world. But in the first round of this battle, the wolves had won the battle of wits.

"Those who are not injured, take the wounded and retreat first," Xie Yurong calmly and decisively ordered.

The power balance between the two sides was now severely skewed. The investigators had already fought against a giant snake and wild boars, depleting much of their strength. Then they were ambushed by the wolves, and most were injured. Only a few could still stand and fight.

The wolf pack they now faced was far more powerful than the investigators, especially the alpha wolf, whose psychic energy was as strong as Xie Yurong's. Although she had ordered a retreat, it was nearly impossible for everyone to leave unscathed.

"There must be a psychic ore deposit here. Nothing else could attract such a powerful group of beasts. It seems the benefits of the second psychic energy eruption are not just for humans," Xie Yurong thought.

"Everyone, quickly leave the Moonlight Forest and request support from headquarters. I will hold them off and buy you time," Xie Yurong said urgently.

"Director, be careful!"

"Less talk, go now."

"Aoouuuu..." Trying to escape? Not so easy. Stay here! Ugly creatures, my pack, attack! Finish them off, and this energy-rich place will be our territory.

"Woof woof woof" The low growls and rapid footsteps of the wolves signaled the start of their attack.

As they were about to reach the humans, the wolves suddenly dispersed, preparing to bypass Xie Yurong and chase the injured investigators.

The smart wolves wouldn't risk fighting the strong female.

"We're not fools."

With a loud bang, Xie Yurong spread her arms, instantly creating a long wall of fire that blocked the wolves. However, it was a bit too late, and two wolves had already run past.

"Aoouuuu" Ugly creature, you're asking for death.

The alpha wolf approached Xie Yurong with graceful steps, looking noble and beautiful under the moonlight.

"Woof" Seeing the wall of fire, the wolves turned to attack Xie Yurong, starting with a series of shockwaves.

Boom boom boom, the ground trembled as if hit by artillery.

Just as their abilities were about to hit, Xie Yurong instantly elementalized her body, dodging the indiscriminate attack.

"Aoouuuu" Pups, keep attacking. See how long she can hold out.

"Woof woof woof" Wave after wave of attacks, the intelligence of the wolf pack surprised Xie Yurong.

"Continuing like this and depleting my psychic energy won't work," Xie Yurong decided to counterattack after dodging another round of attacks. She wasn't one to just take hits.

Swoosh swoosh swoosh, Xie Yurong's hands fired continuous fireballs like a machine gun. Boom boom boom, the scorching fireballs rained down on the wolf pack, hitting every wolf except the alpha.

The wolves scattered, their attack rhythm disrupted.

Swoosh... Boom, woof... Bang. The sounds of shockwaves and fireball explosions continued.

Boom, seizing the opportunity, Xie Yurong burst forward, swinging her fist and smashing it into a wolf's waist, then delivering a powerful kick to another wolf's waist, incapacitating both.

As the saying goes, a strong head and a weak waist. Even if you are an evolved mutant wolf, you can't escape this.

The alpha wolf's eyes turned red as it saw its two subordinates fall.

"Aoouuuu" You are no match for her, retreat. Let me deal with her.

Seeing the wolves stop attacking and retreat, Xie Yurong knew the main event was about to begin.

Sss, a black shadow flashed, and Xie Yurong narrowly dodged the alpha wolf's sudden attack, but her arm was slashed.

The alpha wolf was incredibly fast, and Xie Yurong didn't have time to elementalize her body.

Xie Yurong focused, fully alert.

The alpha wolf lifted its right paw, licking the blood, dissatisfied with the result of its sudden attack.

"That strike should have torn her stomach open, but she dodged. Aoouuuu."

The alpha wolf stared intently at Xie Yurong, circling her with light steps.

"Aoouuuu" A powerful shockwave shot towards Xie Yurong. Boom, she chose to elementalize her body to dodge the attack.

Another shockwave came, and Xie Yurong rolled to the right, avoiding the attack without using her abilities. Continuous fighting had already drained much of her psychic energy, and the situation was very unfavorable. If she continued to use her abilities to dodge the alpha wolf's attacks, she wouldn't be able to sustain the fight.

With a quick move, Xie Yurong stood up, forming a fireball in her left hand and throwing it at the alpha wolf, which easily dodged.

Right hand, left hand, right hand... Continuous fireballs rained down on the alpha wolf. Some were dodged, some were deflected by its abilities, and some hit the ground, causing explosions and dust to fill the air.

Ha, a low grunt, a fiery figure appeared beside the wolf king in the dust, and Xie Yurong kicked the wolf king's waist. The wolf king leaped back, avoiding the waist attack but was hit in the head.

Bang, a sound like a heavy object hitting a metal plate echoed.

The wolf king was thrown several meters away and fell to the ground, slowly standing up and shaking its head. Red liquid dripped from its nose.

Seizing the momentum, Xie Yurong pressed forward, delivering a barrage of punches and kicks to the alpha wolf.

The alpha wolf was dazed and retreating, but it always protected its waist from fatal blows.

Its large head was stained red with blood, and it was losing teeth.

In this round of the human versus beast battle, the human won.

Aoouuuu, a powerful psychic energy wave erupted from the alpha wolf, shockwaves radiating outward.

Boom, the dust cleared, and a fifty-meter radius around the wolf king was flattened.

"Ha... Hu..." Only heavy breathing remained.

This move had cost the alpha wolf a lot of energy, and it didn't take the opportunity to pursue its visible enemy.

Xie Yurong had taken the full brunt of the attack by elementalizing her body. She stood not far from the wolf king, breathing heavily, and undid a button on her shirt to breathe more easily.

The massive depletion of psychic and physical energy had left her pale.

"It seems I will have to stay here today."
