Chapter 9

When Ling Mo led Ye Lian out the door and headed towards the main city, he realized that Ye Lian's change in consciousness was not just about her ability to act independently, but more about the amplification of her instincts.
Facing ordinary zombies, Ye Lian's attitude was like dealing with insignificant lower creatures. Her methods of killing were even cleaner and more efficient, and her eyes looked as if she were crushing insignificant bugs. Moreover, her attack speed had increased significantly. If before she was like a cheetah, now she was a fully human-shaped cheetah.
The virus's evolution made Ye Lian look more like an ordinary person on the outside, but her behavior became increasingly like a true wild animal, especially in hunting weaker creatures. For Ye Lian, ordinary zombies were probably just weak scum.
Ling Mo couldn't help but wonder what her reaction would be when facing humans... However, under his control, he could still prevent Ye Lian from attacking at will.
Riding a bicycle with Ye Lian, they quickly navigated through the streets and alleys. If it weren't for the zombies everywhere, this scene would have been quite enjoyable for Ling Mo.
But the good times didn't last long. Not long after entering the city, Ling Mo discovered that trouble was coming.
To be precise, he ran into two survivors who were being surrounded and attacked by zombies.
These two survivors, a man and a woman, didn't look very old. From the backpacks they carried, it was clear they were out looking for food. The place where they were fighting was right outside a supermarket. Using the supermarket's door as cover, the two barely managed to fend off the zombies' frenzied attacks, but the increasing number of zombies around them put them in frequent danger.
These zombies were fast and powerful, and the supermarket's glass doors were quickly smashed to pieces. The two had no choice but to retreat inside, using shelves and counters as obstacles to evade the zombies.
Ling Mo saw this from a distance and originally intended to leave by a different route, but he was drawn by the girl.
The girl held a long knife and always had a smile on her face. Whenever a crisis arose, her sudden, swift slashes would eliminate all the zombies that rushed towards her. Her speed was comparable to Ye Lian's. If Ling Mo hadn't seen it with his own eyes, he wouldn't have believed that an ordinary girl could have such extraordinary skills.
Most importantly, her smile. In such a situation, most girls would either be terrified or pale and trembling, but her expression seemed to enjoy the battle, even though they were clearly at a disadvantage. Even if she was strong, facing an increasing number of zombies, her stamina would eventually be drained. Ling Mo could see that her sudden acceleration attacks were not only a great test of stamina but also a significant challenge to concentration.
But in such a situation, she could still remain so calm...
Ling Mo almost wondered if this girl, like himself, had some special ability.
This thought made Ling Mo extremely curious about the girl, but looking at Ye Lian on the back of the bike, he decided it was best to mind his own business. If the other party was just an ordinary survivor, it would be fine, but if they had special abilities, they might see through Ye Lian's true identity, which would be troublesome...
But just as he was about to ride around, he heard a shout from the direction of the supermarket: "Brother! Help!"
Hearing this shout, Ling Mo felt a sudden headache.
Not only did the word "brother" make Ling Mo feel depressed, but the shout itself was enough to bring more trouble! Zombies had even more sensitive hearing than ordinary people. The boy's shout immediately attracted several zombies from nearby alleys and stores. As soon as they appeared, they noticed Ling Mo and Ye Lian and charged towards them.
"Damn it!" Ling Mo cursed inwardly, pulled out a short knife from his waist, and jumped off the bike. Because he was concerned about the girl's identity, Ling Mo had to keep Ye Lian behind him and prevent her from attacking to avoid revealing anything.
But dealing with nearly ten zombies alone was a first for him. Relying solely on his own attack capabilities would be far from enough to handle so many.
Fortunately, Ling Mo still had his puppeteer ability, and this was a good time to test it. As he raised his short knife to meet the first zombie, his gaze had already shifted to the second zombie. The moment their eyes met, his strong mental power took control of the second zombie.
Thus, as he killed the first zombie, the controlled second zombie seemed to offer itself up, crashing onto the tip of Ling Mo's knife.
This was just the beginning. Seeing several zombies charging towards him, Ling Mo kicked away the corpse and felt a chill, but his mind was unusually clear.
He had already tried controlling two zombies at once, so what about three?
Controlling three zombies at once was a new challenge for Ling Mo, but in this critical moment, he didn't have time to think. The idea flashed through his mind, and he immediately put it into practice without hesitation.
With one slash, he killed the leading zombie and simultaneously controlled the two following zombies. As their movements briefly froze, Ling Mo's short knife quickly cut through their throats. This control method only affected the zombies' actions for a very short time, but even Ling Mo hadn't expected it to be so effective in combat.
Following this method, Ling Mo looked as if he was effortlessly charging into the group of zombies, using incredibly fast attacks to quickly kill nearly ten zombies. In the blink of an eye, the area around Ling Mo was left with only the bodies of the dead zombies.
Drenched in blood, Ling Mo looked like a god of death, leaving the man and woman in the supermarket stunned.
"Damn! Shana, did you see that? What's that guy doing, so brutal!" The boy was completely stunned and couldn't help but shout in shock, not noticing a zombie squeezing through a gap in the counter and reaching out to grab him.
"Swish!"
A cold light flashed before his eyes, and the hand fell to his feet. He looked at the girl standing close by, drenched in cold sweat.
Shana gave him a cold glance, casually thrust her long knife into the zombie's abdomen, and then pulled it out forcefully: "What's it to me?"
"We're saved! Come on, let's break through!" Despite Shana's cold reaction, the boy was very excited, as the situation had taken a turn for the better.
Without waiting to see if Ling Mo was willing to save them, the boy immediately rushed out from behind the counter, and Shana, frowning, followed closely behind.
Seeing these two heading towards him, Ling Mo knew he couldn't shake them off for now. Instead of watching them bring a group of zombies his way, it was better to rescue them from the zombies.
