Neither side made a move, and as time slowly passed, Han Fei's fear gradually diminished.
In a few more minutes, he would complete the hidden mission. As long as he could hold on through this final stretch, the situation would fundamentally change.
The coldness emanating from the landlord's ring was almost freezing Han Fei's fingers. Trapped between two ghosts, he became even more calm.
Carefully maintaining the status quo, Han Fei neither continued into the house nor fled outside. He stood at the entrance of the ghost neighbor's living room, and a polite smile gradually appeared on his face.
Room 1051 was pitch black, and the blood-red eyes seemed to appear out of nowhere. Han Fei couldn't see the other party's appearance, but he knew that the aura emitted was extremely terrifying, not just cold, but filled with a special kind of malice, a desire to devour.
"Is the neighbor in Room 1051 going to eat me?"
The noise Han Fei had made earlier had started to cause disturbances upstairs. The ghosts behind and in front of him became agitated, seemingly worried that more powerful ghosts and monsters might come.
A heavy breathing sound came from behind Han Fei, and the sticky liquid dripped onto his back again.
Five bony fingers reached into Room 1051. The ghost behind Han Fei seemed to be trying to pull him out, but as soon as it extended its hand into the room, the "darkness" inside the room turned into a thick liquid and flowed toward the doorway.
The hand never landed on Han Fei's shoulder; it was firmly held by the substantial darkness inside the room.
"The resident of Room 1051 seems to be able to merge with the darkness." Han Fei recalled the black shadow standing in the hallway, faceless and naked, just a pitch-black figure: "The residents in this building come in all shapes and sizes."
A low, guttural roar sounded, and Han Fei didn't dare to turn around. He knew that the ghost behind him was in conflict with the resident of Room 1051.
"Fight, fight, I hope you both lose. One less ghost is one less problem."
Han Fei's mental fortitude was now very strong. Despite the terrifying sounds in his ears and the cold sweat drenching his back, he didn't turn around.
"Five minutes left."
Looking at the countdown on the mission panel, Han Fei's heart beat faster, but his expression remained calm.
With only three minutes left on the mission, the owner of Room 1051 seemed to be thoroughly enraged. The entire room came to life, and the thick darkness surged out of the door like a large mouth, swallowing the ghost behind Han Fei!
"Bang!"
Hearing the door close behind him, Han Fei's heart skipped a beat. An unexpected situation had arisen.
All light disappeared, and Han Fei felt as if his vision had been stripped away, leaving only deep darkness around him.
"The ghost behind me was pulled into Room 1051?!"
Han Fei now felt extremely insecure and wanted to move his body to lean against the wall.
His shoulder soon touched something, but it didn't feel like a solid wall; it felt more like someone's belly.
"Is someone standing next to me? Is their abdomen at the level of my shoulder? Are they hanging in the room?"
The only thing that made Han Fei feel a bit more at ease was that the ghost behind him was still struggling. He could hear its continuous screams and roars.
In this pitch-black environment, hearing the ghost's screams and wails was a form of comfort for Han Fei. At least he knew there was another outsider in the room.
The room was filled with a chilling aura, and the darkness surged like waves, crashing against the walls. Han Fei was worried for the ghost behind him: "You must hold on for three more minutes!"
Staring intently at the mission panel, Han Fei watched the countdown for the hidden mission: "The countdown is still going, which means the ghost behind me hasn't been devoured. That's the only good news..."
Just as this thought crossed his mind, Han Fei heard a piercing scream. The chilling aura in the room dissipated, and the ghost behind him seemed to have suffered a severe blow.
"No, I was just cheering you on, stay strong!" Han Fei panicked. The terror in the room exceeded his imagination. Everything was pitch black, and the air was filled with a pungent stench, like a decommissioned morgue.
The sounds of the struggle and the screams gradually diminished. It had only been a few seconds.
"Are you still there? Hold on a bit longer!" Han Fei was genuinely panicked. The ghost in Room 1051 seemed to have a limited range of activity. It was weak outside the room but very powerful inside.
The sounds of the struggle turned into the sound of something hitting the door, then into the sound of nails scratching the door. The ghost behind Han Fei seemed to have given up on him and was trying to escape.
Han Fei still hadn't turned around; he had no idea what was happening behind him and could only judge by the sounds.
The situation seemed to be getting worse. If the ghost behind him managed to leave, Han Fei would be left alone to face this eerie house.
Taking advantage of the room owner's lack of attention, Han Fei moved backward.
The dense darkness almost became tangible, and the ghost behind Han Fei emitted a bone-chilling cold. The focus of the struggle was no longer on Han Fei.
Compared to Han Fei, the owner of Room 1051 wanted the ghost behind him more, and the ghost had realized the danger and was desperately trying to escape.
The ghost behind Han Fei had never intended to enter Room 1051 but was tricked by the ghost inside. When the door closed, it was too late.
The cold aura washed over Han Fei's back, and he unknowingly retreated to the doorway. At that moment, the ghost behind him burst with all its strength.
"Bang!"
A loud noise came from the security door, and the closed door opened a crack.
Han Fei had no idea what was happening behind him; he only knew that the room was slightly brighter.
The ghost seized the opportunity to leave the room, but the darkness inside the room wrapped around its body like chains.
As the struggle reached its peak, Han Fei retreated to the doorway, and his arm grabbed the doorknob.
"Chance!"
Han Fei tried to pull the door open, but as his body began to move outward, an invisible darkness enveloped him, holding him firmly.
"Can't leave?"
At this point, the ghost behind him and the owner of Room 1051 were almost at a standstill. The ghost behind Han Fei was determined to escape, and the neighbor in Room 1051 was gradually losing control.
The gap in the door slowly widened, and the room became brighter. The ghost behind Han Fei no longer cared about Han Fei. Just as it was about to escape, Han Fei suddenly tightened his grip on the door lock, seemingly trying to close the door.
Seeing Han Fei's action to close the door, the ghost behind him let out a piercing scream, as if it was about to go mad.
"Take me with you!" The darkness wrapped around Han Fei's body, and he couldn't break free with his own strength. He shouted loudly: "Didn't you want to use me as a scapegoat? Didn't we agree to be each other's angels?"
