Han Fei spent a long time discussing with Li Xue based on the assumption that everyone was a "suspect," only to find out that she was actually a police officer.
He stood at the door of the interrogation room, watching Li Xue's retreating back, and felt less desperate. At least now there was a former detective willing to listen to him.
"Hey! Don't be fooled by her appearance. You might just be detained here for a while, but if you fall into her hands, you'll be in for a rough time even if you don't die." Zhang Xiaotian gestured for Han Fei to follow him to another room.
In the not-so-large room, a middle-aged police officer was angrily on the phone. This was the officer who had scolded Li Xue earlier.
He had a stern appearance and a powerful voice, but Li Xue simply wouldn't listen to him.
"Captain Wang, calm down. She's a detective who has received two first-class commendations. She's just here to experience life. There's no need to argue with her." Zhao Ming quickly poured a cup of water and placed it next to the middle-aged police officer.
"What's the point of two first-class commendations? Does she even look like a police officer! If she doesn't want to work, she shouldn't come here to waste time!" The middle-aged police officer was still angry.
"If you really fire her, her parents will definitely come to thank you with a banner. I heard her family is quite well-off, and her parents have always opposed her becoming a police officer." Zhao Ming realized that the middle-aged police officer seemed even angrier, so he quickly changed the subject: "Captain Wang, this is Han Fei. I've brought him here."
Hearing Han Fei's name, the middle-aged police officer, called Captain Wang, finally stopped being angry and entered work mode: "Young man, I'm sorry to have kept you waiting. We have some questions for you, and we hope you don't withhold any information."
Han Fei, who had lived an honest and straightforward life for over twenty years, was naturally nervous as this was his first time at a police station: "Don't worry, I will definitely cooperate with you."
With the rapid development of technology, police investigations have become much easier than before. Every citizen has their own information personality model, and computers can even predict a person's potential criminal tendencies.
In addition, many police officers have specialized lie detection apps and case analysis tools on their phones. With the help of computers, the probability of wrongful convictions has been reduced to a minimum.
After a full hour of questioning, they finally let Han Fei leave.
Whether it was computer analysis or big data personality modeling, Han Fei had no suspicion of being involved in the crime. The system rated his danger level as an extremely rare zero.
In other words, not only was Han Fei incapable of committing a crime, but he was also a truly good person.
At least, that's what the citizen information system believed.
"Captain Wang, are we just letting him go?"
"There's nothing we can do. The police station doesn't have the authority to detain suspects." Captain Wang looked at Han Fei's citizen information on the table, his brows furrowed: "Our jurisdiction has been rated as the safest in the old city of Xinhu for five consecutive years. Now we have such a big case this month, and the forensics department hasn't determined the cause of the fire yet. This is definitely not a simple matter."
"Should I and Zhang Xiaotian keep an eye on him?"
"Be careful and don't let him notice." Captain Wang gathered all the information related to Han Fei: "In my years as a police officer, I've never seen an adult with a danger rating of zero. I heard from my old teacher that there are generally two types of adults with a danger rating of zero. One type is simple-minded and naturally good, but even such people can't maintain a zero danger rating forever."
"What about the other type?" Zhang Xiaotian and Zhao Ming both came closer.
"The other type is the most dangerous, the most cunning, highly intelligent, skilled in hacking, and capable of self-hypnosis—super criminals." Captain Wang took a deep breath: "They are masters of manipulating human nature and will do anything to suppress their criminal tendencies. On the surface, they appear harmless and simple, but in reality, their minds are already twisted and perverted to the extreme."
"Do you think Han Fei is such a person?"
"I'm not sure, but it's better to be cautious."
...
Standing at the police station's entrance, "super criminal" Han Fei held the bread he had just bought from a vending machine and muttered to himself: "Do the police not provide food after detaining someone?"
It was almost eleven in the morning, and Li Xue still hadn't replied to his messages. After finishing the bread, Han Fei decided to go home.
But before he could take a few steps, his phone vibrated.
Looking at the caller ID, Han Fei was quite surprised.
"Director Jiang, is there something you need?"
"At one o'clock this afternoon, come to North Street in the old city. I'm preparing to shoot a new drama, and you can come for a tryout."
Han Fei was about to say that he had encountered some issues recently and didn't plan to go for the tryout, but the other party hung up the phone directly.
"Hello? Director Jiang?" Han Fei listened to the busy signal on the other end, his lips dry.
"I can't even manage to smile right now. My state is not suitable for being an actor."
Despite saying this, Han Fei still decided to go in the afternoon. When he was at a dead end, the other party was willing to give him a chance. It would be disrespectful not to go.
After returning home, taking a shower, and changing clothes, Han Fei hurried to North Street in the old city.
Xinhu is an international metropolis with a vast area. The core area has been developed into a smart technology city, with towering buildings and numerous companies, home to top talents from across the country.
Compared to the core area, the old city looked somewhat dilapidated, still maintaining its appearance from many years ago.
"Is Director Jiang Yi here?" Han Fei arrived at North Street in the old city and was surprised to find that there were two film crews shooting there. One was a modern urban romantic comedy, and the other seemed to be a thriller about a crime.
His previous works were all comedies, so he first went to the urban romantic comedy crew to ask.
"Han Fei?" The staff member checking the actor sign-in sheet immediately recognized Han Fei: "Weren't you fired by the company? Why are you here again?"
"Is this the company's production?" Han Fei was also confused: "Director Jiang Yi asked me to come for a tryout."
"Our 'Urban Secret Love' crew's director is not Jiang Yi. Did you come to the wrong place?" The staff member was a low-level errand runner and felt very sympathetic towards Han Fei, so he didn't deliberately make things difficult for him.
"Not Jiang Yi?" Han Fei knew the address was correct. Since the director of the urban romantic comedy was not Jiang Yi, Jiang Yi must be in charge of the other production.
Turning slowly, Han Fei looked at the sinister residential building on the other side of the street. The closed apartment building door had a poster pasted on it, with three blood-red words—Evil Flower.
"Is he asking me to play in a horror film?"
