Chapter 70

2 min read620 words

During the day.

As I was creating a golem as usual, carefully shaping its face and body,

--BOOM!

a loud explosion came from Hestia’s hut.

“Huh?”

Taken by surprise, I turned my gaze towards Hestia’s hut, where white smoke was billowing out of the entrance.

And from the smoke,

“Cough...”

Hestia, covered in soot, emerged.

“...What happened?”

“Hmm, I made a mistake in development.”

“Development?”

“I’m sorry for making the hut dirty.”

“Oh, no, it’s fine.”

The hut didn’t blow up or anything.

In fact, despite the loud explosion, it didn’t seem damaged at all, showing how sturdy it was.

“Your house is reinforced by your magic, making it strong. If it were a normal house, it might have been reduced to rubble...”

“How dangerous was the thing you were developing? What exploded?”

“Hmm, this.”

When I asked, Hestia showed me a wooden tube.

It looked like a staff, but it was too thick for that.

It contained several black magic stones. What is this?

“What is this?”

“A magic stone propellant. For flying through the air.”

Ah, so it’s for the reverse bungee we talked about before.

Looking at it, it seems like a rocket. It must have exploded when you tried to make it.

“I was using myself as a test subject. I attached it to my feet and tried to fly a bit, but I think I got the mixture wrong.”

“--That’s dangerous. You should do it outside.”

Your white hair is completely black from the soot.

You should do this kind of thing in a wide-open space.

“Hmm, is it okay? It might get a bit dirty.”

“It’s better than having an explosion inside the room. Also, stop using yourself as a test subject.”

“I’m fine, though?”

You’re a Dragon King, so I know you’re tough.

“Even if you’re fine, seeing a friend get hit by an explosion is bad for the heart.”

“...You’re worried about me?”

“Of course, it’s natural.”

We’ve been facing each other for a long time. I would think that much.

When I said that, Hestia lowered her eyebrows in a troubled manner, then blushed and nodded slightly.

“Hmm, I understand. If you say so, I’ll stop being a test subject. I’ll use something else.”

“Yeah, that’s good.”

“But then, what should I use to fly...”

Ah, so the premise is to make something fly.

But, well.

There are limited options for test subjects around here.

Obviously, I can’t fly, so that’s out of the question, and I don’t want to be a test subject.

I can’t ask a werewolf either.

What should I do, I wondered, looking around,

“Ah”

I noticed a half-finished golem.

“Hey, Hestia. Can we use the golem as a test subject?”

“I think it’s possible. But is it okay to use it?”

“Yeah, I’m all for enhancing the golem. And if it can fly, that would be amazing!”

I think rockets are romantic.

A flying, muscular golem sounds pretty cool too.

“...Well, you seem unusually passionate, don’t you?”

“No, well, maybe you can’t understand since you can fly, but flying through the air is a kind of romance.”

I can do some things with image magic, but I’ve never flown through the air.

I can extend trees freely, so I don’t need to fly, but I’ve always had a bit of a dream about free aerial movement.

“Umm, yeah. So, can you help me set it up a bit?”

“Sure, I’ll help.”

And so, Hestia and I started working on developing a flying golem.

Well, it’s just about installing the device, so it should take just a few days to get it into shape.

Then, I plan to test it out when I have some free time.
