Chapter 3: The Law Knight

Knight?
Law Knight!
There was no one dressed like this in the village of Anvil. The man standing on the elk's head could only be the Law Knight that Lindsey knew.
Compared to becoming an Awakened, Lindsey was more concerned about his own life.
He was about to leave right away.
But at that moment, a limping old man in front of the Law Knight caught his attention.
"Village Chief..."
It was the village chief of Anvil, and one of the two Awakened in this remote land.
Under the glow of the bonfire, the village chief was looking at the Law Knight in front of him with a face full of anger.
"Bagget, what do you mean! Today is the eve of the Harvest Festival, are you going to ruin even this holiday?"
The Law Knight Bagget replied with a cold, indifferent gaze.
"The Law Capital has decreed that during the autumn harvest, the Fire Festival should avoid the crops and the village. Everyone can celebrate the holiday happily, but the part where the elk is set on fire should be abolished!"
"This place is under my watch!" The village chief's limping foot stomped on the ground, causing the entire Anvil village to tremble as if an earthquake had struck. "Bagget, do you think I can't handle this small flame?"
The Law Knight's attitude remained indifferent, and his tone was icy, leaving no room for argument.
"The law is absolute and must be enforced."
"This law ensures your safety and the safety of the crops, and cannot be refused."
On this issue, neither of them was willing to back down.
The conflict was about to escalate.
At this tense moment, the last Awakened in Anvil Village, Master Bailin, who looked after the crops, rushed over from outside the crowd.
"There's no need to argue over such a trivial matter."
Master Bailin stomped on the lit fuse with his foot.
Then, without paying attention to the cold Law Knight, he went to the fuming village chief and whispered persuasively,
"Old friend, look at Bagget. He's clearly become a living law. Why get angry at a machine? As long as we get through tonight, do you think he'll fly back from the Law Capital next year to cut down our elk again?"
Persuaded by Master Bailin, the village chief's anger subsided temporarily.
"I'm going home!"
He turned his back with a 'hmpf' and walked away without a glance, leaving a final word for the Law Knight:
"Law Knight, do as you please!"
The village chief had previously called him Bagget.
Now he called him Law Knight.
"This is not a matter of preference, but of the law's decree." The Law Knight replied calmly, then turned his gaze to the surrounding villagers. "You should obey the law, which is the foundation of civilization."
Faced with such a legendary figure, how could the villagers dare to react?
It was Master Bailin, who remained on the scene, who reacted first.
"Everyone supports the village chief's decision, right?"
With the respected Master Bailin leading the way, the surrounding villagers immediately responded.
"That's right, we'll behave ourselves!"
"Whatever the village chief says is what we think!"
"Exactly!"
The Law Knight Bagget nodded slightly.
The villagers obeyed the village chief, so the village chief's decision represented their thoughts.
Confirming that the law could be enforced in Anvil Village, Bagget lifted his foot and pointed his sword at the elk made of straw he had cut down.
"You shall return to the earth and nourish the fertile soil."
The originally lifeless straw seemed to come to life, automatically untied itself, and then merged into the earth, disappearing without a trace.
Lindsey, who was hiding in the crowd, watched this scene with a complex mood.
The village chief's limping foot caused the earth to tremble, and the Law Knight's words commanded the straw to merge with the earth—these were abilities that ordinary people could hardly imagine.
More importantly, Lindsey was now one of the Awakened.
According to the girl in the mill, with his excellent talent, he could potentially gain the same powerful strength as these people by honing his skills!
"In any case, take it slow."
"I'm already an Awakened, no need to rush."
Lindsey took several deep breaths to calm his thoughts, then his gaze fell back on the center of the village.
"I sensed the law being violated and need to investigate immediately."
After dealing with the straw elk, the Law Knight walked towards the mill in the north of the village without looking back.
"Everyone, continue the festival!"
Master Bailin gave the villagers a look and hurriedly followed after him.
"..."
The villagers who remained on the spot looked at each other.
Although the elk had been dealt with by the Law Knight, they still had other things prepared for the festival, so they continued the celebration.
The only change was that the atmosphere was much more subdued than before.
After the crowd dispersed, Lindsey moved towards home, somewhat dejectedly.
The surprise brought by the Awakened's abilities had faded from his mind, and he began to face the problems he was dealing with.
"I had contact with the prisoner and talked about a lot of things."
"But essentially, I just delivered a meal, so I shouldn't have violated any laws, right? And since they're calling him a guest, this secret escort must avoid any complications..."
Lindsey analyzed the situation.
The words of the girl in the mill and the confrontation he had just witnessed made him very clear about what kind of person the Law Knight was.
He had no desire to interact with the Law Knight or become a 'hero' in legend and myth.
"This guy is clearly completely twisted by power!"
"Besides, the village chief's foot is definitely not a simple ability. We're all from the same village, so I can definitely learn from him properly."
Lindsey muttered to himself.
The plan he had set a few hours ago had been shattered and reformed by the reality that didn't fit the plan.
"Hey, Lindsey, you're back!"
At that moment, the other children noticed Lindsey, and one of his close friends rushed over and put his arm around his neck.
"How was it? Did you deliver the meal to the guest?"
"What does he look like, is it a guy or a girl?"
There was a beautiful girl in the mill.
And she had the emblem of the Law Capital's king!
Lindsey couldn't possibly say that, so he pretended to be a child and played around with his friends.
"How would I know?"
"That guy was hiding in the mill, I just delivered the meal and came back!"
"..."
Lindsey didn't want to get himself into trouble, nor did he want to get his family or friends into trouble.
So during the rest of the festival celebration,
He behaved like any ordinary child, not doing anything out of the ordinary.
He participated in the banquet, played and chased around, and did the silly things children should do in front of the adults.
Any child in Anvil Village would do the same.
Except for the girl in the mill and Lindsey himself.
No one thought that a rare spontaneous Awakened was now in this remote village.
As for the Law Knight who went to the mill,
It was said that his expression never changed, and he even ignored the conflict with the village chief that evening, going to rest at the village chief's house!
