Dianne stood above Lillian with a smug smile.
"I lent Adel the dress. Doesn't it suit her perfectly?"
"Who are you!?"
"Lillian…! How dare you speak to a stranger like that!"
I was about to step forward to prevent any further rudeness to His Majesty and Dianne, but Dianne stopped me.
"I am Dianne of the Carenth family. Please remember that."
Dianne smiled and said to His Majesty,
"Your Majesty, I like her."
Dianne entwined her arm with mine.
"I would like her to become my best friend."
"Hmm, I see."
His Majesty exchanged a glance with the Queen.
"Miss Adel, actually, Dianne is involved in an important task for this country. She lives alone in a mansion on the outskirts of the city, but I would like you to assist her with this task."
I blinked at His Majesty's words. Hearing that Dianne had been entrusted with an important task, I understood her confident demeanor, but I was surprised to be ordered to assist her.
"Your Majesty, my daughter Adel is not capable of such an important role…"
"That's right! Why is my sister here!?"
While my father interjected, Lillian's shouting was truly disrespectful and made me nervous.
His Majesty turned to my father.
"Lord and Lady Fezandic, you said earlier that Adel was too ill to come and Lillian was sent in her place. However, Adel looks quite healthy, doesn't she?"
His Majesty's glare made my parents turn pale. They finally realized the situation was dire, though it was too late.
Lillian continued to scream.
"Sister! Why are you wearing a dress!? That's so unfair!"
I didn't understand the meaning, but I wished she would be quiet. She was drawing the attention of everyone in the hall.
"Miss Adel, you will assist Dianne. This is a royal command."
To settle the matter, His Majesty stood up and spoke clearly. With a royal command, my father couldn't argue. I looked at Dianne, confused. Dianne smiled happily when our eyes met, but I wondered if I could be of any help.
However, the audience applauded in response to His Majesty's words, leaving me no choice but to accept. Although I was bewildered by the sudden turn of events, I had already planned to leave home and work. If I could serve His Majesty before becoming a commoner, I would do my best.
"Being able to work for the country is a great honor. Thank you."
I bowed to the royal couple, and they nodded in satisfaction.
