Chapter 25 – Three Years Later
Three years later.
Yan Lin’s maternal grandfather’s 90th birthday in a few days and there was going to be a big party for it.
Zu Jin was really busy, so the previously booked ticket had to be rescheduled.
As a result, the whole family hurried to the airport when Zu Jin finally finished her work. It was foggy outside, and then a rainstorm followed.
All planes could not take off tonight.
Zu Jin was a little embarrassed standing at the airport. “How about we go there by high-speed train?”
Yan Lin hugged his daughter. His face was dark, but his voice was still soft, “Is there enough time?”
Zu Jin spent almost half of her time during the year on business trips.
The high-speed train was a good means of transportation, but Yan Lin had not experienced it yet.
“It’s not too late. I’ll book the ticket now!”
Her husband was unhappy, so she had to quickly coax him.
After Zu Jin booked the high-speed train tickets, she grabbed their suitcases and immediately called for a taxi.
The family took the taxi to the high-speed train station. The train they booked was just about to leave.
After they found a place to sit down, Zu Jin felt that half of her life was almost gone.
Usually, her secretary’s assistant took care of arranging everything from beginning to end. She had not handled these things in 800 years.
Fortunately, nothing went wrong this time. If not, Yan Lin would definitely be sulking again.
Yan Lin and Zu Xiaofei sat across from her and didn’t need help anymore.
Thus, she took out her cell phone to answer her business emails. After a while, she was able to catch her breath.
When she looked up again, she saw that her daughter had taken off her coat. She was wearing a light yellow dress with small scattered flowers, and obediently eating strawberries.
The strawberries were probably washed and packed by Yan Lin at home before going out.
“Feifei, give mommy one.”
With that, Zu Jin opened her mouth to her daughter.
But as soon as she saw her little hand reach out, she suddenly took it back mischievously. She giggled and threw it into her dad’s mouth..
The cleverness in her eyes was exactly the same as Yan Lin’s.
After Yan Lin was fed by their daughter’s favouritism, his cold expression finally looked a little better.
It was even…
A little smug.
Zu Jin pretended to be calm, but she felt a little disappointed.
However, she did not blame Yan Lin for it. This was because she did not truly raise Zu Xiaofei after she gave birth to her.
She had no idea which story Zu Xiaofei liked to listen to before going to bed or which playmate she liked to play with right now.
Besides, Yan Lin did not show his feelings on the surface, but his heart was actually better than anyone else to those he wanted to be kind to.
Who could get tired of his gentleness when he showed it?
Of course she couldn’t compete.
To think that there was a time back in the day before Zu Xiaofei that she was the most favored in the family!
So why was she in such a hurry to have a baby at that time? Why on earth was she like that…
While Zu Jin was thinking about some messy thoughts, she didn’t notice when someone sat next to her.
When she reacted, she realized that a young beautiful woman in a white dress was sitting next to her. She was taken aback by this and was shocked on the inside.
“Big brother, you are really good at taking care of your child. I have never seen a dad take his child out.”
The beautiful woman’s voice was also soft and delicate, and don’t even mention how beautiful she was.
Her words were obviously praising Yan Lin to leave an impression.
He smiled and nodded back. He replied with only one sentence: “Thank you.”
As Zu Jin sat to the side and looked out of the window, she was silent. Her mind was filled with complaints shooting out.
What do you mean ‘dad takes his child out’? Is her mother a ghost?
Beauty, the baby’s mother is sitting right next to you!
The beautiful woman’s sweet-talking was annoying. Sentence after sentence, like it was endless.
“Strawberries contain vitamin C. Girls who eat it will become white and beautiful, but you, little girl, and your dad look so much alike. Your dad is tall and handsome, so you must be a fair beauty when you grow up.”
Yan Lin himself was not a talker, but he had been particularly interested in the subject of certain fields since he had a baby.
That subject was on the topic of a child’s diet.
But before he continued the interaction, there was one thing he needed to confirm.
Yan Lin asked, “How old is your child?”
Beauty: “What? I… I’m not married yet!”
Their area suddenly became weirdly quiet.
Zu Jin’s mouth twitched and she tried not to laugh.
However, she had a difficult time enduring it and she felt that her tears were about to come out.
Yan Lin’s grandfather’s family was a scholarly family. All of them were research scholars or specialized professors. They had a high status in the academic space at home and abroad.
Before the Lunar New Year last year, Zu Jin and Yan Lin came to see this elder once.
When they came over this time, the elder’s health was obviously not as strong as the last time they met him. His mental state was also not very good. They had to yell before he could hear them.
After a round of greetings, everyone began to chat in the backyard in the sun.
" "
But soon, Zu Jin saw that there seemed to be a very important couple who didn’t show up.
It was Yan Lin’s parents.
However, when she thought of Cao Cao, Cao Cao arrived 1, Zu Jin stood up and wanted to greet Father Yan and Mother Yan after hearing their voices.
But she turned around and saw that there was a very annoying person who came with her parents-in-law.
Yan Yuelin. He was the illegitimate son of Yan Lin’s father.
She watched as Yan Yuelin followed behind the couple. Both of his hands were full of gifts, and his face was brimming with an enthusiastic smile.
If a person didn’t know, they would think that he and Yan Lin were brothers of the same mother.
Zu Jin rolled her eyes on the inside, but she took Zu Xiaofei to welcome him in order not to be the center of gossip.
“Sister-in-law, long time no see!”
Yan Yuelin smiled and waved to her like he was a prodigal playboy.
No one else paid any attention to him, and Zu Jin naturally couldn’t give him a good face.
She grimly said, “Why do I see you everywhere? Why are you here for our grandfather’s birthday?”
Unexpectedly, when Mother Yan heard this, she immediately shook her head lightly and signaled her not to say this again.
Zu Jin felt stuck, but she was not the type who wanted to be a hero.
It was Mother Yan’s father’s birthday and her husband brought the illegitimate child to spite them. They were silent, so it was not worth Zu Jin’s time to say anything else.
After dinner, Yan Lin, Zu Jin and their child were arranged to stay at the guest room on the second floor.
When they returned to the room, Zu Jin’s temper could not be suppressed completely.
“What’s the matter with your dad? He sincerely wants to make everyone feel bad, doesn’t he?”
Yan Lin was turning on the hot water in the bathroom. He heard her and replied, “Keep your voice down and wait for our child to fall asleep.”
Zu Jin looked at the ignorant Zu Xiaofei and could not stop herself from pinching her nose.
“Baby, you must not talk to Yan Yuelin any more. If I find you talking to him tomorrow, I’ll scold you. Do you hear me?”
Zu Xiaofei was not a child who followed what an adult said. She didn’t understand why her mom made such a request.
Thus, she tilted her head and asked, “But uncle is very fun. I like to play with him.”
“He…”
Yan Lin came out of the bathroom and interrupted her.
“The hot water is ready. Go in and take a bath.”
Zu Jin sighed and had to shut up.
Zu Jin wasn’t really an emotional person, but she always had an uncontrollable anger towards Yan Yuelin ever since she met him.
Mother Yan had always tolerated what her husband had done for the sake of superficial peace in her marriage.
As a result, step by step and through concessions, the illegitimate child was brought to Mother Yan’s maternal parent’s home by her husband.
This was such a dog blooded thing that perhaps even TV dramas were rarely performed like that.
She took a bath with her daughter and after they came out, they played on the bed for a while. The little girl soon fell asleep.
Yan Lin got up and picked his daughter up and put her on the bed next to them.
Zu Jin looked at his gentle movements and whispered, “Are you really letting him attend the dinner banquet tomorrow?”
Yan Lin was silent for a while. “If I didn’t, he would have been brought here anyways. I don’t really care.”
“It looks like you don’t want to care!”
Zu Jin had already figured out Yan Lin’s temper after having been together for so long.
If he hated someone or something, he would just ignore it and unlike her, he would not show it.
With regards to the thorn called Yan Yuelin, it might be because Mother Yan cared too much about the views of the outside world that Yan Lin had long given up on saying anything about this matter.
