Chapter 58

Update time: April 26, 2013

"Eight horses pulling a carriage? And they are eight purebred red-eyed demon horses, this is the grandeur of a duke! What's going on, could it be that the city lord has emerged from seclusion? No, the city lord, though of noble status, has never been one to put on a show. Everyone knows this. So, who has arrived?"

Seeing the four carriages surrounded by eight hundred fully armed, armored, and disciplined guards, Yun Mo's eyes narrowed!

So many guards around these carriages, yet not a single unnecessary sound was made. Among them were both men and women, and upon closer inspection, the women's eyes gleamed with a sharpness and terror that surpassed the men's!

"True elite soldiers, true killing machines!" With just one glance, Yun Mo had made his judgment.

"Four families, four families of such high status that they can rival the city lord of Ziyex City!" With the second glance, Yun Mo's eyes fell on the unique, almost arrogant demon horses, and he knew that a great noble had arrived!

Demon horses hold a significant position in the empire!

They are an indispensable part of the empire's formidable military power! Without them, there would be no world-renowned imperial heavy cavalry, and thus no solid foundation to uphold the imperial rule!

These fierce beasts, similar in appearance to the wild horses of Yun Mo's previous life, are the most loyal comrades of the empire's cavalry. You can take away the cavalry's gold, but if you harm their demon horses, they will fight you to the death!

The reason they are called demon horses is not because of their bodies, which are twice as large as those of ordinary horses, nor because of their blood-red, fierce eyes, but because they have a trace of the bloodline of the ancient demon beast 'Tianma'!

This bloodline inherited from Tianma makes each demon horse incredibly strong and bloodthirsty! Fortunately, after countless years of artificial taming and education, they have gradually reined in their wild nature, becoming gentle and obedient, and possessing the noble quality of loyalty!

Therefore, they are good companions to humans. However, it cannot be denied that artificially tamed demon horses have lost their wild nature and the opportunity to transform into demons! This is evident from their mixed fur colors and the decreasing redness of their eyes!

Even so, each demon horse is extremely valuable, and without several million gold coins, don't even think about it! Feeding them is also very costly, as they are extremely picky eaters, eating only meat and having enormous appetites like bottomless pits. Additionally, the battle armor they wear requires a significant amount of gold. It's easy to imagine how much resources this consumes!

Ziyex City has a million guards, but fewer than 300,000 have demon horses, with the rest being infantry. This clearly shows how expensive it is! Even the city lord cannot afford more!

Moreover, if you have too many cavalry, the imperial capital will be concerned! For safety, it's best not to exceed the limit!

Currently, purebred demon horses can only be obtained by hunting in the wild!

In high mountains, large marshes, deserts, and forests, the traces of wild demon horse herds can occasionally be found, but capturing them is extremely dangerous, requiring the full efforts of over a dozen great cultivators to succeed! The reason is simple: wild demon horses have a demon horse king, a truly enlightened great demon king. One demon horse king can simultaneously deal with over a dozen great cultivators, and in a desperate fight, it can eliminate five or six before escaping with its super speed! Therefore, every time wild demon horses are captured, the cultivators are all injured!

Fortunately, this seems to have become a routine. Each time, the demon horse king allows humans to capture a dozen demon horses it deems unworthy, but only once a year, no more! This pattern was discovered by cunning humans, so the empire can add a dozen purebred demon horses each year.

Therefore, a purebred demon horse, completely white with no mixed colors and blood-red eyes, is worth a fortune!

In nearly five hundred years, the empire has harvested fewer than six thousand red-eyed demon horses, and their individual lifespan is only three hundred years. This number will drastically decrease, indicating the rarity of purebred red-eyed demon horses!

Rarity can show status and privilege!

The empire stipulates: only dukes with a noble title can use red-eyed demon horses! The rules are very strict.

A third-rank duke can only use two red-eyed horses to pull a carriage. A second-rank duke can use four. Only a first-rank duke can use eight. Breaking the rules is considered overstepping, and the consequences are severe, even for nobles, with no leniency!

This is a great honor! An honor that even marquises do not have, how glorious and awesome!

Seeing that each of the four carriages was pulled by eight red-eyed horses, Yun Mo knew that a great noble had arrived!

Then he cast his third glance.

He saw the different family emblems on each carriage. His expression didn't change, but he tightened his arm and pulled the cute little sister to a secluded area on the left side of the store!

"Brother Wen, what...?" Her voice trailed off. The cute little sister turned and saw the grand scene outside, and upon seeing the family emblems, her adorable face turned extremely pale, and her body trembled with tension. She immediately understood Yun Mo's meaning and obediently followed him to the side of the store!

The men and women around them, who were selecting items, looked at the two with surprise, then followed their gaze to the outside. Then, whether they were the captain of the guards or some young ladies and noblewomen of minor status, they all involuntarily lowered their noble heads, carefully and quickly moving to the sides without making a sound!

Seeing their humble demeanor, Yun Mo, who had been standing straight, shook his head in secret, thinking, "The nature of servility is the same everywhere, 'Are the nobles and generals born to rule?' It seems not everyone understands this!"

He knew why they were acting this way because he recognized these family emblems!

On the left upper corner of the left side of each of the four black carriages, different family emblems were embedded!

The first one was a purple night-blooming cereus! The night-blooming cereus was carved from purple crystals, which are unimaginably valuable, let alone the lifelike carving!

The purple flower on the black carriage was so prominent and noble!

The guards protecting this carriage had night-blooming cereus emblems on their clothing and armor, but in a less noticeable place, such as the cuffs and hems, and the color was purplish red!

Purple is not a color anyone can use!

Following closely, the second carriage had a purple crystal dragon!

The third carriage had purple clouds! The fourth carriage had purple flames!

The dragon is sacred, the clouds are magnificent, and the purple flames are wild.

Yun Mo looked at these family emblems, his eyes burning with flames! He thought of the great mountains he had helped overthrow in his previous life under the leadership of a great person. His mood became heavy for no reason! He didn't like such arrogant and awesome nobles! But he knew he could only be a passerby! Because he couldn't change anything! So he could only stay far away.
