Ling'er's voice was clear and pleasant, and she was lively and adorable.

"Haha, that won't do. The back mountain is dangerous. Ling'er, you shouldn't come with me. I'll see if there's anything fun tomorrow and bring it back for you!" Xu Daoyan treated Ling'er as if she were his own younger sister, showing great care and affection.

"Ling'er isn't afraid of danger!" She pouted, looking at Xu Daoyan, clearly不服气 (unwilling to admit defeat).

Xu Daoyan stroked Ling'er's hair and said, "Ling'er, don't be angry. I'll cook some wild boar for you when I get back!"

"Okay." Ling'er was easy to appease and nodded immediately.

Yaya made some gestures, indicating that they should hurry up and eat, or the food would get cold.

Xu Daoyan naturally understood Yaya's meaning and quickly said, "Come, come, let's eat. What a sumptuous dinner!"

"Hehe, it's all thanks to Yan'er!" Wu Shi looked at Bai Yan'er, finding her more and more likable, as she was so beautiful.

Bai Yan'er smiled slightly, lowering her head, not daring to look at Xu Daoyan.

Xu Daoyan, who didn't understand the heart of a girl, had previously said he would marry Bai Yan'er mainly because she was the most beautiful girl in the village.

He only had eyes for the dinner, devouring all the food on the table.

Since the village chief's evil deeds were exposed, many villagers, to express their gratitude to the Xu family, sent chickens, ducks, pigs, cows, sheep, and horses as gifts.

Wu Shi refused, but the villagers said they would feel guilty if she didn't accept them, as they had almost forced Wu Shi to her death. Hearing this, she couldn't refuse and accepted the gifts.

After dinner, Ling'er began chatting with Wu Shi and Bai Yan'er. Indeed, three women can make quite a fuss, chattering away. Yaya listened quietly, her expression calm and her smile gentle.

Xu Daoyan sat to the side, somewhat curious, and used the Immortal Wood to examine Bai Yan'er.

Grade 6, middle rank, 500 years old. This surprised Xu Daoyan. Could it be that because Bai Yan'er had demon blood, her lifespan was much longer than that of a human? After all, she hadn't practiced any cultivation techniques.

However, lifespan does not represent one's strength. The old beggar had repeatedly warned that if one always used lifespan to measure someone's combat ability, they would often put themselves in danger.

Xu Daoyan then checked Ling'er's lifespan out of concern.

3000 years, middle rank, grade 3!

"How can Ling'er's lifespan be so much longer than mine!" Xu Daoyan was stunned, finding it hard to believe.

When Xu Daoyan carefully observed Ling'er's movements, he noticed a certain rhythm, very light and graceful. Although her development was not yet complete, the power carried in her lightness had a quality of using softness to overcome hardness. What was going on?

What about Yaya?

Xu Daoyan secretly used the Immortal Wood to examine her, but found no effect at all, just like when he used it on the old beggar. There was no response, indicating that she was beyond the scope of what the Immortal Wood could measure.

Shocked!

What kind of people were Yaya and Ling'er? They had lived with him for so long without any ill intentions toward his family, yet they were so powerful, leaving Xu Daoyan very puzzled.

Night fell.

The fields beside the house were filled with the sounds of frogs and crickets.

After dinner, Xu Daoyan, unable to bear the women's chatter, walked out of the house.

He picked up a dagger and cut off the wild boar's head. In a few quick moves, he skinned and gutted it, set up a rack, piled it with wood, and lit a fire. The flames crackled and roared.

Xu Daoyan left most of the wild boar meat to be cured by his mother, which could be used as dried meat for long-term consumption. A portion was used for roasting.

During the roasting process, Xu Daoyan infused the life-generating qi within him into the fire, using wood qi to generate fire, infusing vitality into the roasted pork, which was beneficial to the body.

However, that was all he could do.

On the way home, Xu Daoyan had already informed Wu Xiaobai about the wild boar.

He arrived just in time at the Xu family's small courtyard, looking at the golden wild boar meat, with droplets of oil dripping, the aroma of the roasted meat making Wu Xiaobai's mouth water.

"You're such a wimp!" Xu Daoyan rolled his eyes.

"Can't tell, but your roasting skills have really improved, Daoyan!" Wu Xiaobai raised his eyebrows.

"Of course, my beggar master always makes me hunt mountain chickens and wild rabbits for him, so I've become skilled through practice!" Xu Daoyan thought of the old beggar, who had actually been very good to him.

With the life-generating qi infused into the fire, the roasting was particularly fast, and it was soon ready to eat.

"Come, get some plates, let's eat the roasted pork!"

Wu Shi and Bai Yan'er immediately brought out four plates, walked out of the wooden house, and handed them to Xu Daoyan. He cut the meat quickly and accurately, and in a short time, the four plates were filled with fragrant roasted pork.

Wu Xiaobai, the least dignified, spat on the plate with the most meat, grinning, "It's all covered in my saliva, so it's all mine."

Xu Daoyan was speechless; only Wu Xiaobai could do something like this.

Bai Yan'er distributed the remaining three plates to Wu Shi, Yaya, and Ling'er, then said to Xu Daoyan, "Daoyan, I want to talk to you. Can I?"

"Huh?" Xu Daoyan was somewhat taken aback but nodded. "Sure."

Bai Yan'er led Xu Daoyan out of the courtyard.

The night was beautiful, with a silver moon hanging high, casting its light on the village's country path, and the stars twinkling. Bai Yan'er looked up at the sky, walking step by step, saying nothing.

Xu Daoyan frowned, having no choice but to patiently follow Bai Yan'er.

After a quarter of an hour, Bai Yan'er broke the silence, somewhat unhappy, "Do you really think there's nothing to talk about with me?"

"I don't know what to say!" Xu Daoyan was very straightforward, staring blankly at Bai Yan'er.

"Didn't you say to Xiaobai that you would marry me?" Bai Yan'er's lips curled up, slightly shy, lowering her eyes, smiling beautifully.

"That's true!" Xu Daoyan suddenly realized, admitting it frankly.

"Why do you want to marry me?" Bai Yan'er was even happier.

"Because you're the prettiest girl in the village! Marrying you would be very glorious." Xu Daoyan said.

"Is that... the only reason?" Bai Yan'er's smile froze, her eyes filled with deep disappointment.

"Yep!" Xu Daoyan responded, and Bai Yan'er stopped, then turned and walked back.

Xu Daoyan was taken aback, feeling puzzled, and walked straight ahead. With Yaya and Ling'er around, he felt very secure, and at this moment, he was very curious about their identities, wanting to ask the old beggar what was going on.

Seeing that Xu Daoyan didn't chase after her, Bai Yan'er was both angry and frustrated, suddenly shouting, "Xu Daoyan, stop right there!"

Xu Daoyan turned around, frowning, "What's wrong now?"

Bai Yan'er's eyes immediately reddened, tears streaming down her face, "Why do you treat me like this? Is it because Jia Dao bullied me, and you think I'm dirty, so you don't want to talk to me?"

These days, Bai Yan'er had been living in Xu Daoyan's house, and he rarely spoke to her, not even looking at her properly, always busy with cultivation!

She was very puzzled. When she asked Wu Xiaobai, the answer made her very happy, so she had been very dedicated to cooking for Xu Daoyan, feeling satisfied every time she saw him eat everything.

But tonight, when she wanted to confirm her feelings with Xu Daoyan, she only got a few casual words, not the answer she wanted, and she couldn't hold back anymore.

Seeing Bai Yan'er cry, Xu Daoyan's heart softened. He didn't know what she was thinking, walked to her side, and comforted her, "What's wrong? Weren't we fine just now? Why are you crying all of a sudden?"

Bai Yan'er squatted down, hugging her knees, sobbing, not saying a word. Her long black hair fell to the ground, and Xu Daoyan stood there like a wooden post, not knowing what to do.

"I don't think you're dirty; I just don't know what to say to you. Let's go home, stop crying!" Xu Daoyan pulled Bai Yan'er's hand.

The moment she touched his hand, Bai Yan'er actually wanted to hold it tightly and be led by Xu Daoyan, but for some reason, she pulled away, "Don't touch me, stay away from me!"

"I don't even want to touch you!" Xu Daoyan immediately got angry, finding it completely unreasonable, and ran toward the back mountain, disappearing into the night in a few steps.

Seeing Xu Daoyan disappear, Bai Yan'er's heart ached, a pain she had never felt before. Tears uncontrollably streamed down her face. She slowly stood up, suppressing her sobs, wiping her tears, and walked back.

"Xu Daoyan, I owe you a favor, and I will repay it. Then we will be even!" Bai Yan'er shouted in her heart.

In the back mountain, the old beggar saw Xu Daoyan approaching and said with a tsk, "You're really a blockhead, not understanding women's hearts. It's true, a twelve-year-old kid wouldn't understand women's hearts."

Xu Daoyan rolled his eyes, a bit angry, "It's completely unreasonable. I don't know what's going on in her head."

"The girl's head is full of you, the savior and the village's young hero. How could she not like you?" The old beggar shook his head, speaking confidently, calling Xu Daoyan a blockhead.

"Alright, stop it. I can't handle this kind of liking. Let's go catch a ghost. I have a feeling of unease these days, as if something is about to happen!" Xu Daoyan looked at the forest behind, the back mountain he had always wanted to go to but was restricted by the old beggar.

The old beggar looked at Xu Daoyan seriously and said, "Did you see Bai Yan'er's chest? Answer me."

"Of course, what's the point?" Xu Daoyan was speechless.

"Didn't you have the urge to touch it? Answer me, and I'll take you to catch a ghost!" The old beggar suddenly laughed lewdly, eagerly awaiting his answer.
