The so-called chakra is the energy that ninjas use when employing ninjutsu. This energy has two sources: one is the physical energy derived from the cells in the body, and the other is the mental energy accumulated through training and experience. Chakra is composed of these two sources.
Ninjutsu involves drawing these two types of energy from within the body, extracting them as chakra, and then activating them through hand seals.
Yewuji and Minato Namikaze returned to the place they had stayed earlier, one after the other. Yewuji had rushed out earlier, and only now, upon returning, did he notice that the house was inside a forest, backed by a mountain. There were two wooden houses: one was a bedroom, where they slept, and the other looked like a hall but was cluttered with various tools and kitchen utensils, and it seemed the kitchen was also there.
Yewuji couldn't understand why there would be a house in the middle of a forest, but he didn't dare ask Minato. Perhaps such houses were common in this world, and if he asked, Minato might notice something was amiss. After all, he remembered that the Fourth Hokage was a very meticulous person.
It wasn't until later that Yewuji learned that such houses were indeed a specialty of this world. Most of the world was covered by forests, and many people would go into the forests to cut wood, hunt, and gather herbs. Most of these people lived near the forests, and sometimes, when they ventured deep into the forest and couldn't return, they would spend the night there. If they encountered bad weather, it could be very troublesome.
Over time, people would build such houses in safe places in the forest to protect themselves from the elements. These houses were generally for public use, and the various tools and kitchen utensils were already placed inside. People who stayed there would usually replenish the items they used before leaving.
Therefore, it was quite normal to encounter a house in a remote area in this world, and there wouldn't be any mysterious hermits around.
After entering the room, Minato said, "You must be tired today. Rest for a while. I'll go get some food."
Yewuji looked outside and saw that it was around four or five in the afternoon. He nodded and went into the room with the bed. To be honest, Yewuji was indeed exhausted today. His body was very young, and the crying at the grave had also drained his young heart. He soon fell asleep on the bed.
When Minato woke him up, Yewuji looked outside and saw that it was already dark. "Alright, eat something first, then sleep. We can talk about other things tomorrow." Minato said, bringing Yewuji a bowl of the same porridge as before.
After Yewuji finished eating, he asked, "Where will you sleep tonight? The bed is big. Why don't we sleep together?"
Minato smiled slightly. "No need. I'll just rest outside for a while. You need to rest well; we have to travel tomorrow."
Hearing this, Yewuji didn't insist. He nodded and went back to bed.
Lying on the bed, Yewuji wasn't sleepy at first. He thought about what to do next. "From what Minato said, we will leave here tomorrow. From his words and the experiences so far, it seems we are in the Second or Third Shinobi World War. Given Minato's age, it's likely the late Second Shinobi World War or the early Third Shinobi World War. In any case, it's a time of war. Minato won't be able to stay with me for long. He might take me to a place with people tomorrow, and according to the plot I've seen, he will probably find someone to adopt me.
Whether it's the Second or Third Shinobi World War, Konoha seems to have won. So, except for Konoha, other places might not be safe. Of course, there must be safe places, but the randomness is high. If I encounter some wandering ninjas or rogue ninjas, I might be in trouble.
But asking Minato to take me to Konoha might not be appropriate. I'm just a regular kid, and Konoha might not even know about me. This isn't like after the Third Shinobi World War, when Konoha's fame spread throughout the world. Even then, some places hadn't heard of Konoha.
This world isn't like Earth, where the internet is so advanced that you can look up anything. This world seems very isolated, like the feudal society of old. And with frequent wars, who has the time to care about other things, just like in feudal times, where some people didn't even know the dynasty had changed.
Since I can't go to Konoha, I need to have the ability to protect myself in other places. So, I should find a chance to learn the chakra training method from Minato tomorrow.
From the Naruto series, it's clear that chakra training methods are very valuable. You might think that in the five major villages and some smaller ones, there are plenty of ninjas, and many children start training early, so chakra training methods must be as common as cabbage, easily obtainable.
But that's not the case. Yewuji remembers a few episodes where a small country had no ninjas, and a few wandering ninjas almost overthrew the government. It was only with the help of Naruto and his team that they were defeated. If a country has no ninjas, it's at the mercy of others. The country's leader isn't stupid; he would want to build his own forces. But even so, there are no ninjas, or at least none are mentioned.
The number of ninjas in the world can be compared to nuclear weapons on Earth. Non-nuclear countries want nuclear weapons, but they don't get them. This shows that just having chakra training methods isn't enough. There must be other factors. Otherwise, with money, you could recruit a few ninjas and train them for decades, and they would serve the country. Even if the current generation isn't strong, the next generation would have the power.
When Yewuji watched Naruto, he thought that if you have money and influence, you can hire ninjas from the five major countries to do your bidding. Why not train your own ninjas?
Given the current good relationship with Minato, Yewuji thought it would be best to get the ninja training methods. Otherwise, he would just be a regular person, and with the more terrifying Fourth Shinobi World War coming, he might die at any moment without any strength.
While lost in these thoughts, Yewuji slowly fell asleep. After all, he was just a six-year-old kid and didn't have much energy.
Just before falling asleep, Yewuji thought, "The kids in this world are really scary. On Earth, seventeen or eighteen is still considered young, and six is just a baby. But in this world, from what I've seen, Minato, Uchiha Itachi, and Kakashi were all killing people around the world before they were ten. Itachi was appointed as the captain of the ANBU at thirteen, a terrifying unit. In Naruto, ANBU members are often extras, easily defeated, but that's because their opponents are even stronger. Not to mention Itachi, a thirteen-year-old ANBU captain."
"What was I doing at thirteen? I was probably picking up trash."
"Everyone in this world is a monster," Yewuji mumbled before falling asleep.
The next morning, just as the sky was beginning to lighten, Yewuji was sound asleep when he was woken up by Minato Namikaze. Seeing Minato's smiling face, Yewuji swallowed the curse he was about to say, thinking he was being woken up by someone on Earth.
"Get up. Let's eat first, then we'll start our journey and leave here."
Yewuji nodded and went to eat without a word. As for washing up, forget it. There were no such conditions here. The water they had was collected from rain, and there wasn't enough for that.
After everything was ready, Yewuji saw Minato waiting for him at the door, ready to set off.
Yewuji thought that if he didn't speak now, he might lose the chance once Minato found someone to adopt him. Finding a good adoptive family would be easy for Minato, given his status as a ninja. The family wouldn't dare mistreat the child, as ninjas had a high level of authority. Yewuji didn't know this, as TV rarely showed the lives of ordinary people.
Approaching Minato, Yewuji asked directly, "Minato, can I ask you a question?"
"Sure, I'll tell you what I know," Minato said.
"Minato, are you a ninja?" Yewuji asked directly.
Minato was taken aback, then nodded. "Yes, I am a ninja, a ninja of Konoha." As he said this, he took out the Konoha headband from his pocket.
Seeing the familiar symbol, which looked like a bird's head and a tree's rings, Yewuji realized it was the Konoha headband. This was the first time he had seen it in real life.
"Can you teach me... how to be a ninja?" Yewuji almost said "chakra" and cursed himself for almost slipping.
Hearing Yewuji's request, the smile on Minato's face disappeared, and the atmosphere suddenly became serious.
Yewuji didn't say anything but thought, "Do you have to be so serious? A smile won't kill you, but not smiling can really affect the mood. No wonder you can be the Hokage; that commanding presence is perfect for a leader."
After a moment, Yewuji calmed down. He sometimes thought he had the talent of Sakura from Naruto, with his split personality. Due to having few friends, he rarely spoke, and over the years, he had maintained his character on Earth by venting his emotions internally, much like the spirit of Ah Q. However, Yewuji didn't see it that way; he just thought he was a bit crazy.
"Are you sure you want to be a ninja? Being a ninja isn't as glamorous as it seems," Minato said after about ten minutes.
"Yes, I want to be a ninja. I want to protect them," Yewuji said, thinking of the dead couple and tearing up again.
Minato had no intention of teaching him ninjutsu, but seeing Yewuji cry, he thought Yewuji was thinking of his deceased parents. Remembering that Yewuji had no family, he softened. He decided to teach him some basic knowledge and how to extract chakra, which was common knowledge. This would require staying a few more days, but it was worth it. He would teach Yewuji and let him train on his own. Minato smiled again. "Alright, if you really want to, I'll teach you."
"Really?" Yewuji was excited and confirmed again.
Seeing Yewuji's happy face, Minato nodded. "Of course, but we'll have to stay here a few more days. I'll teach you some basic ninja knowledge first."
"Great!" Yewuji couldn't help but cheer. Whether in his past life or now, he had an unusual interest in ninjutsu.
