In the crowded bus, Wang Buping stood there, squeezed among the people, drenched in sweat.
"Ah, why is this weather so hot?"
He felt in his pocket, where only 81.5 yuan remained.
If he couldn't find a job soon, he would starve to death. Thinking about how he would have to leave his dorm in a few days, and if he couldn't find a job that provided food and lodging, he would have to go home and farm.
Thinking about his parents working in the fields and their advice when he was in school, he felt a pang of sadness.
Ah! What's the point of going to this university if I can't even find a job.
The bus arrived at the station, and everyone rushed off. Wang Buping, seeing so many people rushing to the job market, hurried out, hoping to get there early and find a job before the crowd grew.
Wang Buping squeezed through the crowd, but the job requirements left him speechless. For fresh graduates, you need work experience, what a joke.
Finally, he found a few jobs that didn't require experience, but they were all in sales. Wang Buping knew that if he took one of these jobs, he might not earn a penny and would even have to pay out of pocket.
It was almost noon, and with 81.5 yuan in his pocket, he left the job fair, planning to buy the cheapest boxed meal to satisfy his growling stomach.
As he walked, he suddenly heard someone shouting to move out of the way. Before he could react, a sharp pain hit his head, and he fainted, his last thought being: Why am I so unlucky?
He slowly woke up, wondering where he was. Seeing the IV drip, he realized he was in the hospital. But how did I get here? Yes, I remember someone shouting to move, and then I was hit and fainted.
While Wang Buping was still thinking, a doctor walked over and said, "Feeling better, young man?"
Wang Buping looked at the doctor and asked, "Why am I in the hospital?" He was thinking that with only 81.5 yuan left, he was in trouble.
"A girl brought you here, saying you were hit by a flower stand. You don't have any serious injuries. Once you're awake, you can go through the discharge procedures," the doctor said.
As the doctor walked away, Wang Buping stood up, feeling fine, and prepared to go through the discharge procedures. But thinking about his money, he hesitated, deciding to check how much it cost and borrow from a classmate if necessary.
At the window, Wang Buping was speechless when the nurse told him that the girl had paid for him. He held the remaining 130 yuan and the name and number she had copied for him: Lin Yuyan.
He thought for a moment, took out his phone, and called. After a while, a gentle female voice answered, "Who is this?"
Wang Buping replied, "I'm Wang Buping. Are you Lin Yuyan? I'm the one you brought to the hospital today."
"It's you. Are you okay now?"
"Yes, I'm fine. Where are you? I'll give you the money for the hospital stay."
"It's okay, you don't need to pay. I feel partly responsible. I'm at work, my boss is here, I have to go."
Wang Buping looked at the disconnected call, not knowing what had happened.
Thinking about the job he hadn't found today, Wang Buping looked up at the sky with a sigh. Seeing it was late, he walked to the bus stop, planning to return to his dorm.
Back in the dorm, thinking about what had happened today, he unconsciously touched his head. Suddenly, his head felt dizzy, and he found himself standing not in the dorm but in a desolate area with a small pond and the sound of flowing water.
Where am I? Wasn't I just in the dorm? After a brief moment of panic, Wang Buping calmed down. Looking around, he saw only a desolate area and a pond. Remembering that he had touched the spot on his head where he was hit, he touched it again, and his head felt dizzy. He found himself back in the dorm.
This made Wang Buping very scared. He fell onto the bed, and after a while, nothing happened.
Could I have gained some kind of ability from being hit? Wang Buping thought and touched his head again, finding himself in the desolate area. Touching his head again, he was back in the dorm.
After going back and forth a dozen times, Wang Buping finally understood that he indeed had a special ability, seemingly a spatial ability. He jumped up, thinking that the heavens must know he was in a tight spot!
Calmly, he thought about what he could do with this space. The first idea was to help people transport things, but he worried it would reveal the secret of the space. He remembered reading in many novels that spaces could be used for farming, but he wasn't sure if his space could do that.
After a long time, Wang Buping felt hungry, realizing he hadn't eaten all day. He decided to go out for a meal and buy some seeds to plant in the space to see if they would grow.
After eating, Wang Buping learned from the restaurant owner the address of a seed store and went there, returning to the dorm around 9 PM. He took out the tomato and radish seeds he had bought, thinking about the space, and found himself standing in it.
Wang Buping discovered that he could move the point on his head to his brain and enter the space by thinking about it.
Standing in the space, he realized he had forgotten to buy farming tools. He left the space, found an iron bowl and an empty plastic bucket in the dorm, and returned to the space.
He used the bowl to dig a hole, planted the tomato seeds, and covered them. He did the same with the radish seeds.
He took the plastic bucket to the small pond, feeling thirsty and drinking some of the clear, sweet water. Seeing the water flowing into a white mist, he thought the space must be larger.
However, the white mist was soft and couldn't be entered. He squatted down and filled the bucket with water, watering the seeds several times. Seeing nothing else to do, he left the space.
It was already 11 PM, so he washed up and went to bed.
The next morning at 6 AM, Wang Buping woke up, brushed his teeth, and washed his face, then hurried into the space to see if it could accelerate plant growth.
To his surprise, the tomatoes he had planted the day before were already half a person's height, covered in flowers. He looked around but found no small tomatoes. He realized they needed pollination, and since there were no pollinating insects in the space, he would have to buy some bees.
He went to the radishes and found they had grown quite large. He tried to pull one out, and it was about half a meter long. He took the radish, removed the leaves, and left the space to try the taste.
In the dorm, he found a fruit knife, cut the radish, and saw the jade-like flesh. He took a bite and exclaimed, "So good! Crisp and delicious, with a hint of sweetness." He finished the radish in no time, feeling full and deciding not to go down for breakfast.
Thinking about the radishes in the space, he realized he couldn't eat them all by himself. He decided to sell them, thinking such delicious radishes would fetch a good price.
He entered the space, pulled out the radishes, and found he had over 1,000 pounds of them.
He needed a vehicle, so he remembered that the dorm manager downstairs had a tricycle. He went down to borrow it.
He knocked on the dorm manager's door. The dorm manager, seeing it was Wang Buping, asked, "What's up, Buping? Have you found a job?"
"I haven't found a job yet. I've bought some vegetables and plan to sell them. Can I borrow your tricycle?"
"Sure, it's right there. Go ahead and take it."
Wang Buping pushed the tricycle to a quiet place and took out the vegetables. He discovered that he could see and take out items from the space by thinking about it.
He pushed the tricycle to a vegetable market near the school, paid the stall fee, and prepared to sell. He realized he didn't have a scale, but since the radishes were all about the same size and were organic and natural, he wrote on a piece of cardboard: "Radishes, 20 yuan each."
He started shouting, "Passersby, don't miss out! Look at these fresh radishes, the latest variety, guaranteed to be delicious. If you don't like them, you don't have to pay."
Some people looked at his radishes but shook their heads and walked away. After shouting for a while and seeing no one buying, he realized the problem.
He then shouted, "Come, try before you buy. If you don't like it, you don't have to buy it."
An old lady approached, "Let me try your radish. If it's good, I'll buy it."
Wang Buping immediately cut a piece of radish and handed it to her. "Do you have water? I can't eat it without washing it," the old lady said.
Wang Buping realized she was right and bought a bottle of mineral water from a nearby store, washed the radish, and handed it to her. "Try it."
The old lady took a bite and said, "Mm, this radish is really good. It tastes like the radishes I ate when I was young. It's really delicious. I'll take two, and I'll bring them home for my husband to try."
Wang Buping put the radishes in a bag he had bought earlier.
The old lady gave him a 50-yuan note. Wang Buping, finding some change in his pocket, said, "Here's your change. If you like it, please recommend it to others. I'll be here tomorrow, and I'll have tomatoes next time."
The old lady left, and the other vendors, seeing someone actually buy the radishes, became curious. Finally, a middle-aged customer approached, "Young man, can I try a piece of your radish?"
Wang Buping handed him a washed piece of radish. The middle-aged man tried it and said, "Mm, it's really good. I'll take four radishes."
Seeing someone else buy, more people came over, and Wang Buping quickly distributed the remaining radishes for them to try.
After tasting, everyone found the radishes really delicious and started buying them. Wang Buping was so busy he couldn't keep up.
Some people even took the radishes themselves, put the money in his hand, and left. In no time, Wang Buping's radishes were sold out.
The other vendors watched in amazement, thinking about raising their prices.
Wang Buping, seeing the empty tricycle and the money in his pocket, was overjoyed. He rode the tricycle back to the school, thinking about how much he had earned today.
He realized he needed to buy bees in the afternoon to pollinate the tomatoes and earn even more money.
