In the new week, Zhang Tan came to the company, watered the plants, and boiled tea, waiting for Luo Ming to arrive.
"Your writing is very good, the other party is very satisfied." Luo Ming was talking about the GG soft article he wrote over the weekend.
Zhang Tan picked up the kettle, filled his thermos, and smiled, "It was relatively simple."
"I couldn't have done it if I tried; I'm past that age."
"Mr. Luo is too modest."
The two chatted for a while, and then Luo Ming, holding his thermos, left for the "Tianyu Mountain" project team.
Zhang Tan tidied up, took his laptop and teacup, and went to the "Ran Deng Zhe" project team, where a morning meeting was waiting for him.
Director Li presided over the meeting, and each department head reported on their progress. When it was Zhang Tan's turn, he paused and said, "There's nothing much on my end; the script doesn't need any revisions."
Director Li nodded, saying nothing.
After the meeting, Zhang Tan wandered around the project team, discussed work with the concept artist for a while, and then slowly returned to the office. Seeing everyone around him busy, he felt like a retiree, with nothing to do.
He sat down, opened his computer, and started writing a video script, updating the latest movie commentary.
After nearly a month of accumulation, the "Zan Wei Guan Zhi" account had already gained 150,000 followers. He had made 10 videos, averaging one every three days, which was quite fast. Even so, he was still being urged every day.
In recent days, his evening movie-watching time had been compressed because Xiao Bai often brought Shen Liuliu to watch animated shows. The two mischievous kids tiptoed around, afraid but always忍不住顶风作案, 把园长阿姨的叮嘱抛之脑后. 换成小米和孟程程就不敢了,完美诠释了什么叫做撑死胆大的饿死胆小的。Xiao Bai and Shen Liuliu were having a great time, watching animated shows, eating snacks, and drinking bear-shaped drinks, while their little feet jiggled.
Zhang Tan's latest video was still a commentary on a movie released this year. Unlike the early "Chaser," this movie had a terrible reputation, with a rating of only 3 points, but bizarrely, it had a box office of over 400 million! This left many people who looked down on it speechless.
After watching this movie, Zhang Tan was genuinely shocked. He had seen bad movies before, but never one this bad. Even the animated shows Xiao Bai and Xiao Mi watched were better. It lacked basic movie knowledge and was more like a series of PPT slides. Amazing.
However, it did one thing well: it had a clear target audience! Those who criticized it as a bad movie were not wrong; it was indeed bad, but it wasn't made for them. It was specifically for its fan base.
In this regard, this movie was much better than most bad movies, which flopped both in box office and reputation. At least this one made money at the box office.
Zhang Tan criticized the movie, pointing out its flaws, and also its strengths, which were threefold: clear positioning, which was more sophisticated than some self-important directors.
He wondered if this commentary would spark another intense discussion, or even attract criticism, just like when he commented on "Chaser."
The office was quiet for a moment, with only the sound of keyboard tapping. The door opened, and a middle-aged man in a white shirt poked his head in. Seeing Zhang Tan, he said, "You're here."
Zhang Tan quickly stood up, "Team Leader."
This was Feng Dong, Zhang Tan and Luo Ming's superior.
The Pujiang Film Studio divided screenwriters into groups, and Zhang Tan was in the third group, led by Feng Dong.
"Are you busy?" Feng Dong asked, looking around the office. "When it was just Luo Ming here, the office was so bare, it was hard to look at. Now with some plants, it looks much better."
Zhang Tan smiled, "I like to tinker with these things. We do a lot of text work, and our eyes get tired. Looking at green plants is refreshing."
Feng Dong nodded. Seeing Zhang Tan stand up, he said, "Sit down, don't stand. I came to talk to you about something."
Zhang Tan waited for him to sit down first before taking his seat.
Feng Dong asked, "How's the 'Ran Deng Zhe' project going?"
Zhang Tan didn't know why the team leader had come, so he said honestly, "The scripts for the first two seasons are already written, and Director Li has signed off on them. I don't really have much to do there now."
Saying he had nothing to do was a taboo in the workplace, but Zhang Tan still said it. On one hand, no projects meant no bonuses, and on the other, he was young and needed a lot of projects to improve and not become stagnant.
Feng Dong said, "Director Li has praised you several times, saying you're young and full of ideas, a talent. Luo Ming has also mentioned you several times, and they both highly regard you."
Zhang Tan humbly responded, wondering if the team leader was here to give him more responsibilities.
Feng Dong continued, "The company has a new project. After consideration, we want to recommend you to represent our third group."
Zhang Tan thought, "What kind of project?"
Feng Dong explained that the Pujiang TV Station would celebrate its 50th anniversary next year and wanted to make an animated film as a tribute.
Zhang Tan, who had never heard of such a requirement, asked, "What are the requirements?"
Feng Dong said, "The Pujiang TV Station and our studio have a close relationship, always considering each other as brother units. Animation is a calling card for Pujiang, so the TV station chose to make an animated film. The requirement is that the main character must be the TV station's mascot."
He then tested Zhang Tan, "Do you know what the Pujiang TV Station's mascot is?"
"A panda, Qiqi."
Zhang Tan blurted out, secretly thanking Xiao Bai and Shen Liuliu. These two kids had been watching Pujiang TV's animated shows at his place for the past few days. Although he hadn't watched them, he had caught a few glimpses of a chubby, cute panda named Qiqi.
Feng Dong nodded, "That's right, a panda named Qiqi. The TV station's requirement is to make a long animated film with Qiqi as the main character."
Zhang Tan asked, "What is the purpose of making this animated film? Is it for the anniversary, or for the market?"
Feng Dong said, "To use the anniversary as an opportunity to promote the TV station."
Zhang Tan nodded in understanding. Feng Dong continued with more details and concluded, "If you agree, you need to start preparing now. It's Monday today, and we need to see the story outline and synopsis by Wednesday."
This was such a good opportunity that Zhang Tan wouldn't refuse, "I'll submit my work on Wednesday."
"Alright, work hard. I won't disturb you anymore."
After Feng Dong left, Zhang Tan couldn't help but think about what he had just said, organizing his thoughts.
He could find information about the Pujiang TV Station's mascot, Qiqi, online. Qiqi was a chubby, cute panda, which reminded Zhang Tan of Kung Fu Panda.
Kung Fu Panda, Xiao Bai?
Emmmmm~~~ Zhang Tan shook his head, trying to get Xiao Bai out of his mind. He didn't know why he associated Kung Fu Panda with Xiao Bai; they were completely different. Xiao Bai was slim and mischievous, not at all like a chubby, cute panda.
When he got home, Zhang Tan was just about to open the door with his key when he heard footsteps and giggles behind him. He almost didn't need to turn around to guess who it was—no one else but Xiao Bai.
Zhang Tan turned around, and sure enough, it was her! His eyes widened in shock, "Xiao Bai, where are your clothes? Why are you running around bare-chested?"
