Being taken back to the police station, Lu Li had long anticipated this. No matter how credible the reason or how complicated the background, someone had died, and if they didn't go through the motions, it would be too outrageous.

However, after waiting in the interrogation room for half a day with no one appearing, he began to feel something was amiss. On the way there, he had glimpsed the ambulance carrying Xia Ming's body and six injured bodyguards heading to the hospital. He wondered if they planned to break through with the bodyguards first before coming for him.

After Wang Xuexi's scare, Zhang Lin and the others, even if they were bold, would hardly dare to speak out of turn. At most, they would say it was a female ghost's revenge. The question was, would the police believe it? That was highly doubtful.

The night was deep, and Lu Li sat dazed in the chair, puzzled but not impatient. At this moment, the interrogation room door suddenly opened, and two police officers walked in. They sat opposite Lu Li, one turned on the fluorescent light, and the other picked up the notebook to prepare for the record.

The pale light shone on his face, and Lu Li squinted slightly.

"Name, gender, age, occupation."

"Lu Li, male, ..., student at Haicheng University."

The two police officers exchanged glances, clearly surprised that Lu Li was a student.

"Our policy is clear: confess and be lenient, resist and be strict. We already have a lot of evidence. The sentence will be different depending on whether you confess or we make you confess. Now, tell us yourself!"

Lu Li was taken aback but quickly understood. Regardless of whether they had evidence, they wouldn't directly reveal it but would try to get the suspect to speak. This way, they might uncover unknown criminal facts. This method was very common in interrogations.

Lu Li didn't intend to hide anything and said, "I was visiting a friend and was on my way back to school when Xia Ming's people took me to the beach. They beat me, so I naturally fought back. Later, Xia Ming suddenly went crazy and mutilated himself, and he died. You can ask others; I just kicked him once, that's all."

"Still trying to talk your way out of it," the interrogating officer said sternly. "He had many injuries, and even if he mutilated himself, it wouldn't look like this. Also, you and the victim had deep conflicts, right?"

"Of course. But one of his bodyguards wasn't injured. If I killed him, why would his bodyguards be unharmed?" Lu Li smiled lightly.

The officer taking notes interjected, "Maybe you were accomplices."

Lu Li was displeased and said sternly, "That's a slander. No matter what, I didn't kill anyone. His death has nothing to do with me."

Hearing Lu Li deny everything, the two police officers exchanged glances, finding the situation quite challenging. As experienced detectives, they couldn't possibly not recognize the former police chief's nephew.

When the detective captain discovered Xia Ming's death, he almost wet himself. He reported to his superiors and intensified the interrogation, starting with the bodyguards since they were all Xia Ming's.

However, they were surprised to find that everyone's stories were consistent, similar to what Lu Li had said. The forensic doctor determined that Xia Ming's death was due to liver and gallbladder rupture and excessive blood loss, in other words, he was scared to death.

They had seen many deaths, but being scared to death was a first. Combined with the testimonies of Lu Li and others, if it were an ordinary person, it would be classified as suicide or left as an unsolved case.

But the deceased was the eldest son of the Xia family in Haicheng. This answer was too much for even the current police chief to handle.

"Lu Li, you are suspected of intentional murder. If you confess, we can request the prosecutor to reduce your sentence. You are young and a college student with a bright future. There's no need to be stubborn."

The officer taking notes tried to persuade him, while the other coldly warned, "If you remain stubborn, with solid evidence, you'll get at least life in prison."

Lu Li raised an eyebrow, calm, "Sorry, I won't admit to something I didn't do."

"You—won't admit until you see the coffin." The interrogating officer glanced at the camera, reached for the handcuffs, and stood up to approach Lu Li. Clearly, he intended to cuff him first.

Lu Li wouldn't let him have his way. He tapped his foot and slid away with the chair.

"Trying to arrest me without evidence, I'll file a complaint."

"Complaint? Heh heh, you don't know our methods! For a violent and notorious criminal like you, we have plenty of ways."

The officer sneered and moved forward, but suddenly heard a loud bang. Someone kicked open the door and rushed in, glaring at Lu Li and shouting, "You killed my son, I'll destroy you."

Saying that, he lunged at Lu Li, swinging a punch.

Lu Li was initially stunned but quickly raised his hand, intercepting the punch and grabbing his wrist. "If a son is not taught, it's the father's fault. Your son's behavior was purely his own fault, and his death has nothing to do with me."

"Second brother, I'll kill him." Xia Yuanxing couldn't break free and called to someone behind him.

"Stop, you—"

The interrogating officer was about to scold the intruder but suddenly noticed someone else behind Xia Yuanxing. He turned and was shocked, quickly saluting, "Chief, good evening."

"I'm not your chief anymore," Xia Yuantian said with a grim face. "How can such a heinous criminal still be free?"

"Chief, we were about to cuff him, but he resisted violently."

"Resisted violently, then shoot him on the spot."

Xia Yuantian coldly snorted, suddenly drew his gun, and pointed it at Lu Li, saying menacingly, "You all saw it. The suspect resisted violently, tried to seize the police officer's gun, and is a heinous criminal."

From the moment Xia Yuantian appeared, Lu Li had been watching him. When Xia Yuantian drew his gun, Lu Li's heart sank, knowing he had to act or die without a good name. Moreover, he didn't want to die. So, before Xia Yuantian finished speaking, Lu Li had already let go of Xia Yuanxing and moved away.

He quickly grabbed Xia Yuantian's wrist, took two steps forward, and with one hand, disarmed him.

Lu Li's reaction was extremely fast. By the time he fully controlled Xia Yuantian, the others in the interrogation room had just reacted.

The two police officers' faces changed instantly. Since they weren't allowed to carry guns casually, they could only pull out their batons. One shouted out the door, "The suspect is resisting arrest and has taken Chief Xia hostage."

Held by Lu Li, Xia Yuantian was initially furious, his eyes flickering with various emotions, then a glint of satisfaction appeared.

"Boy, taking a police officer hostage in the interrogation room, I'll see how you get out of this. Even if you spend one day in there, I'll find a way to kill you."

Hearing the shouts, the police rushed into the interrogation room, filling it to the brim.

A middle-aged man, sweating profusely, said to Lu Li, "Quick, let go of Chief Xia. Let's talk this out, don't be impulsive."

Lu Li looked at the angry faces of the police, feeling a bitter smile. This was truly a difficult situation!

Outside the police station, Xue Weimin jumped out of the car and ran quickly into the chief's office.

On the nearby street, luxury cars began to appear.
