Ch63.1 - Appointing a crown princess

When Jian Mei returned to his place, he was surprised and pleased to see the herbs he’d ordered from the [All Kinds of Medicine] app had arrived. Since his points were limited, he’d gone for seeds instead of fully grown plants to save a little extra. Since seeds could be planted repeatedly to yield more, it was a smart move to conserve his resources, especially in these challenging times.
Jian Mei had already roughly figured out the treatment plan for the young master, but the only problem was that the young master was unwilling to undergo treatment. First, he thought his leg couldn’t be healed, and second, he felt the treatment was just a joke. Persuading the young master had thus become a difficult task.
Jian Mei sighed. After tidying up, he finally went to bed.
The next morning, Jian Mei woke up early just as the dawn was breaking. Grandma Li was already up, even earlier than him, preparing the young master’s clothes for the day. Jian Mei quietly went to the small garden outside the attic to water the plants.
“Mei.” After a while, someone called out to him from behind.
Jian Mei set down the watering can and turned around, just in time to see Grandma Li pushing the young master’s wheelchair as they came out. The sun was slowly rising, and the air outside was fresh and clean.
The young master’s wheelchair came closer to his direction. He looked at the flowers and said, “They seem to be blooming quite well.”
Grandma Li pointed at a flower in the corner and said, “Young master, look. This osmanthus is actually still alive.”
The young master glanced over in surprise. That flower had once been his favorite, but after he had accidentally dropped it, it started to wither slowly. Grandma Li had brought it to the small garden, planning to throw it away once it had fully wilted.
The young master raised an eyebrow and asked, “Is the soil in this garden good?”
Grandma Li shook her head and gently explained, “Jian Mei has been taking care of the garden recently. In the past, many flowers withered, but ever since Jian Mei took over, they’ve been thriving.”
Not long ago, the young master had told Grandma Li to keep an eye on Jian Mei and see what his divine powers were but there had been little progress. But over time, some signs started to emerge. This child seemed to be naturally gifted with the powers of a healing divine priest. Whether it was flowers on the verge of wilting or people who were sick, anyone around him seemed to get better.
This was also one of the reasons why the young master felt himself unconsciously drawn to Jian Mei. Such a healing divine priest talent was so rare that even among hundreds of divine priests, none would possess it—especially with such a powerful divine effect.
Jian Mei still didn’t know what Grandma Li was thinking. He felt a little shy and said, “It’s not like that. A few days ago, I noticed that this flower wasn’t doing very well, so I’ve been coming over every day to check on it. I used to have a small garden at home, so I thought I’d try taking care of it, and I didn’t expect it to really improve.”
The young master’s gaze drifted to the flower that had come back to life and said softly, “Even a flower that’s withered… can it really bloom again?”
Jian Mei stood beside him, watching the vibrant flowers in full bloom. He crouched down slightly, his face serious, his eyes holding a quiet tenderness. “I think it’s possible.”

Jian Mei smiled gently. “It’s because it wants to bloom again on its own.”
“If it didn’t have that desire,” Jian Mei continued, lightly brushing the petals, “I don’t think my efforts would have been enough. The one who creates the miracle isn’t me—it’s the flower itself.”
……
There was a brief moment of silence.
After a while, the young master suddenly let out a light chuckle.
Jian Mei looked at him, confused. The young master smiled and said, “Mei, you always surprise me.”
Before Jian Mei could figure out how to respond, the young master turned his face away and said, “Alright, stop standing here. Let’s head back. Stop staring at the flowers. Have breakfast first, then tell me.”
Still a little confused, Jian Mei asked, “What should I tell you?”
Grandma Li gently pushed the young master along, glanced at him with a smile and said, “Your treatment plan, silly child.”
Jian Mei blinked, then excitement filled him. The young master had agreed to let him treat his leg!
Jian Mei didn’t expect that growing flowers could bring such good things. He quickly rushed over to help Grandma Li with the wheelchair and said softly, “Young master, don’t worry. I won’t disappoint you. I’ll be a useful servant!”
The young master, who was usually rather gloomy, couldn’t help but be affected by Jian Mei’s enthusiasm. He grumbled, “You’re doing well so far. The flowers are growing nicely.”
Grandma Li nodded. “Yes, right. From now on, I think we should leave the small garden to Meimei to take care of.”
Jian Mei didn’t refuse; in fact, he felt a bit excited. “Really, young master? Can I plant some of my favorite plants in the small garden?”
The young master shrugged, indifferent. “It’s up to you.”
“Yay!” Jian Mei exclaimed softly, his face lighting up with a bright smile. “Long live the young master!”
The young master couldn’t help but smile slightly before giving Jian Mei a playful side-eye. “You talk too much.”
Grandma Li watched the two children play, feeling a deep sense of comfort. Since the young master’s leg injury, he had become increasingly withdrawn, and his negativity had only worsened after his divine powers failed to heal him.
He had once been the pride of Master Jiasi, with exceptionally high wind-type divine power, living a life of limitless glory. But after the disaster, the young master had almost completely stopped using his powers, and his relationship with his master gradually became distant.
Things had been better ever since Jian Mei arrived; the young master had become more talkative and smiled more often. However, Jian Mei didn’t seem like the type of person who would be content staying in the mansion, settling for a life of complacency forever. Although that time hadn’t come yet, Grandma Li was already beginning to worry about his future.
……
The next day, when Jian Mei headed to the backyard to find Xiao Ban, he noticed the atmosphere was unusually tense.
Xiao Ban cautiously pulled him aside and said, “You shouldn’t come around for the next few days.”
Jian Mei looked at him, confused. “Why?”
“Well, winter’s almost here, and a lot of people have caught a cold again. It’s contagious,” Xiao Ban explained. “The wealthy have already bought cold-repelling stones, but we still need to be careful.”
“What’s a cold-repelling stone?” Jian Mei asked.
“It’s a stone that prevents you from catching a cold from others,” Xiao Ban replied. “It’s made by the healing divine priests, and it works really well. But it’s expensive. Only noble and wealthy families can afford it.”
That cold was probably just a regular flu.
Jian Mei looked at Xiao Ban and asked, “Did you catch a cold?”
Xiao Ban shook his head. “No, but Xiaoxiao and the others have caught cold.”
Jian Mei looked worried. “Did they go to the hospital for medicine?”
Xiao Ban comforted him. “Don’t worry. Our Master Jiasi is considerate of this. If anyone catches a cold, we can go to the hospital for treatment free of charge. After all, it wouldn’t be good if the master caught it too.”
Jian Mei nodded. “That’s good to know.”
Today was their day off, as the young master gave them a day off. Jian Mei went with Xiao Ban to wander around Pingping’s family’s fields.
Pingping’s family had been helping them with growing herbs. Normally, they’d see Pingping when they came, but today, they noticed the door was tightly shut.
Jian Mei knocked on the door, and Pingping’s mother opened it.
Xiao Ban asked, “Where’s Pingping?”
“He’s inside,” her mother replied, wearing a mask-like covering over her face. She sighed and added, “This child caught a cold while studying these past couple of days.”
Both Xiao Ban and Jian Mei grew much more serious.
