Chapter 13

After hunting with Taku and the others, my level kept rising. The experience points are more rewarding when you defeat stronger enemies. I guess it’s high risk, high return.
Well, I’m not part of the hardcore group, so I think a relaxed pace is fine for me.
My skills are half combat and half production, so focusing only on combat won’t improve my overall skill level. I guess that’s what Magi meant when she said balancing combat and production is difficult.
"Hmm"
"What’s wrong, Yun-chan?"
"Yun-chan!?"
Minitsune hugged me from behind. Wow, girls are so soft. But that’s not the point; I’m a guy. I want you to stop using -chan.
"I’m a guy, so please stop using -chan."
"Ah, no way. There’s no way such a cute person is a guy! Or are you a beautiful cross-dresser? Hmm, maybe you should dress more sharply?"
"Come on, Taku! You need to prove it!"
"Hehe, Yun really gets embarrassed. It’s probably similar in real life, too."
"Wow! Real-life otome game line, here we go!"
"Taku, you bastard!"
The guy in front of me laughed, and I couldn’t shake him off. Damn.
"But archers are often said to be weak, and I don’t really feel that way. Also, enchantment is an underappreciated skill. Being able to make potions means you have alchemy or synthesis, right? I don’t think you’re treated that poorly."
"Yeah, now that you mention it. Why were they called weak?"
The girls tilted their heads. I don’t know either, but it’s kind of interesting, right?
The guys, on the other hand, had rather awkward expressions.
"Ah, that’s it. It’s because of the town raid event during the beta version."
Kei began to explain.
To put it simply, the strategy was to reduce the enemy’s numbers with a mixed force of ranged mages and archers, and then have the front-line troops eliminate the remaining forces. However, the archers, in a panic, replenished their arrows in town, depleting the town’s stock and leaving them unable to gather enough arrows. They were sent to the battlefield and ran out of arrows halfway through, becoming sitting ducks.
The event ended in a narrow victory, but it left many players with a bad impression.
"Man, that was really stressful. We, the front-line troops, had to rush into the battlefield even with our stats reduced from dying. Taku."
"Yeah. The beta version heroes who performed well were called the Silver Paladin and the Water Serene Mage. Ganz."
For some reason, he had a distant look in his eyes. Don’t give me that dead fish look.
"Also, there’s something strange about enchantment. Why can you use it like that?"
"‘Huh?’"
Well, enchantment can normally be cast on allies, right? Come to think of it, this might be the first time I’ve cast it on an ally. And why are you girls surprised?
"Maybe you couldn’t cast it on allies?"
"No, the main issue with the augmentation skill is its range. About two meters. Apparently, even after raising it to level 20, the range didn’t change, so they gave up and changed it."
So, the short range? Indeed, two meters is the initial range of a bow. At such close range, you can’t enchant the front-line troops, and if you go forward to cast it, you’ll get caught in the attack. If enchantment was designed for magic users, its defense is as weak as cardboard.
"That’s why it’s strange. Can you think of any reason why you can cast enchantment so safely during combat?"
"Well, I just look at who I want to cast it on."
Only Taku, who knows all my initial skills, reacted to this.
"Yun, are you still raising Eagle Eye?"
"Oh, it’s really useful. It has both long-distance vision and night vision, making it perfect for night hunting. I’m constantly using it at night to level up."
"Hey, try casting an enchantment on me from a distance."
Taku said this while standing about five meters away.
"I don’t really understand, but, [Augmentation]—Defense."
Taku was enveloped in a faint blue light, which disappeared after about a minute.
"Next, turn to the right and cast it on me."
"Alright, alright. [Augmentation]—Defense... huh?"
I couldn’t cast the enchantment. Taku sighed, as if he expected this.
The others noticed, but I was still unaware, confirming that I could cast enchantment on myself and others properly.
"We’ve been making a big mistake. The essence of Eagle Eye isn’t long-distance vision or night vision; it’s target selection."
I tilted my head at the unfamiliar word.
"In other words, it’s the ability to select a target by looking at it. It’s an incredible ability when fully developed."
"Hahaha, I hope it grows into an official cheat."
"What do you mean?"
"I want you to keep raising Eagle Eye and Augmentation. Try learning the staff and magic attribute skills to become a magic user. You’ll be unstoppable at long range."
I still don’t really understand, but the word "unstoppable" sounds cool.
"What do you think, Yun? Do you want to change to a magic user?"
"No, I don’t want to be the same as everyone else. I’m a production and archery user, so I’ll stick with this style."
"Should we post this information on the strategy site? If we do, [Eagle Eye] and [Augmentation] will be freed from their underappreciated status."
"Hmm. I don’t want someone to copy me. The title is ‘Only Sense,’ so let me keep it to myself."
"Got it, got it. Does everyone agree to keep it a secret?"
Everyone agreed.
They’re surprisingly nice, and I’d like to go hunting with them again.
I suddenly gained four friends. I wonder if I can make a hundred friends, as the saying goes.
