Chapter 3

3 min read701 words

The new baby who arrived was a girl from the cat-eared, long-tailed cat-person race.

The children were thrilled that two babies had come in such a short time. However, the children who initially paid attention to me were soon captivated by the cuteness of the cat-eared baby and began to focus on her.

My period of popularity lasted less than a month before it came to an end…

The cat-eared girl and I, being babies, slept together in the same futon. In other words, even though my period of popularity was supposed to be over, the children still surrounded me.

In the end, everything remained the same except for the arrival of the cat-eared baby.

Correction

One thing did change.

I became a big brother at one month old.

It has been about a year since I came to the orphanage.

By this time, I had started crawling, and my range of movement had expanded, though it was still limited to the room. Occasionally, the director or the helper lady (who is apparently named Charlotte, or "Shal" for short) would carry me and take me for walks around the orphanage and its grounds.

And my cute little sister, being from the beast race, has higher physical abilities than humans. She started crawling much earlier than I did and runs around energetically.

At night, I cast a recovery spell on my exhausted sister. The recovery spell only slightly eases her fatigue, but it seems to help her sleep soundly at night.

I discovered this when my sister's night crying became severe about half a year ago. I tried channeling my magic power to her using magic control, and she stopped crying. After a few more trials, I concluded it was a recovery spell. I haven't tried it on injuries yet, so I don't know the full extent of its effectiveness.

I'm also showing decent progress with other spells, such as producing fire, wind, stones, and water.

To be honest, I haven't seen anyone else use magic, so I don't know what the average level of magic in this world is, which is frustrating.

I tried using appraisal, but it seems that the children, the director, and Shal don't have any magic skills.

Since I don't know what might happen, I need to keep my ability to use magic a secret for now.

As time passed, three years had gone by since I came to the orphanage.

By this time, I could freely walk around the grounds. ...My sister, on the other hand, was running around and causing chaos.

I also learned more about this world.

First, the country is called the "Argyle Kingdom." The orphanage is located in the town of "Frey."

Frey is situated in the west of the Argyle Kingdom, near a mountain called Dragon King Mountain, which is surrounded by a vast forest known as the Dragon Forest.

It is said that one of the Dragon Kings lives on Dragon King Mountain, and many dragons inhabit the base of the mountain. The Dragon Forest is home to increasingly powerful monsters as you get closer to the center, while the edges of the forest have fewer strong monsters. The abundant magic from the forest brings various blessings, attracting many adventurers, which has made Frey a thriving town beyond its size.

This orphanage raises the children left behind by the adventurers who gather in this town. The operating funds come from the town. Since the orphanage does not contribute to the town, the money provided is not generous.

Therefore, children over 10 years old help the townspeople and earn a small amount of money.

Normally, one cannot work properly until reaching the age of 15, but thanks to the director's good character and the children's politeness, they are allowed to help out.

Well, at three years old, this is still not relevant to me...
