Chapter 11

This plump woman was Wang Guizhi, the wife of Liu Zhenhai, the village chief of Xili Village. Following behind her was her daughter, Liu Xinmei.
Liu Zhenhai was a domineering and powerful man.
He had five brothers, none of whom were easy to deal with, and they were known as the Five Tigers of Xili Village.
Liu Zhenhai himself had three sons, all of whom were competitive and aggressive.
Despite his usual smiling and seemingly kind demeanor, Liu Zhenhai was actually very ruthless. Those who offended him often faced fierce retaliation.
Liu Zhenhai's father was the village chief of Xili Village.
After taking over, he had been in the position for many years.
Though he was just a village chief, he could sideline the village party secretary and control all the major and minor affairs of the village.
"Unreasonable, truly unreasonable, it's just right that you're 24 and still can't find a wife!" Wang Guizhi said angrily as she walked out, her large, millstone-like buttocks swaying, venting her inner dissatisfaction.
Xiao Fei's father, Xiao Youjin, bent his waist and lowered his head, smiling and following her to the door.
"Auntie, the child is ignorant, please bear with him." The father spoke kindly, fearing that this woman would be angered and bring trouble to their family.
Wang Guizhi ignored him, her face full of anger.
Wang Guizhi walked to the gate of the courtyard and looked at Xiao Yan, saying, "Yanzi, you won't be as foolish as your brother, will you? With your family's situation, your brother can only find a wife if you exchange for him; there's no other way! If you're unwilling to exchange for him, your brother will be a bachelor for life! If your younger brother doesn't get into college, it will also be a problem for him to find a wife in the future. Your family might even become extinct. Think about it, girl! Your aunt is truly for your family's good!"
Wang Guizhi's words were extremely rude, openly showing her contempt for the Xiao family.
Her tone was condescending and domineering, as if she were bestowing a great favor on the Xiao family.
Xiao Fei felt a surge of anger when he heard this.
However, he thought about it and held back. What was the point of arguing with this uncultured, rural hag? He would wait and let the facts speak for themselves later.
"Stinking woman! If you keep talking nonsense, I'll tear your mouth apart!" Xiao Yang rushed out of the house, hearing Wang Guizhi's words and ready to attack her.
The father quickly hugged his son's waist and scolded him, "Idiot! Are you trying to kill me? Apologize to your aunt right now."
Wang Guizhi, facing the enraged Xiao Yang, sneered, "Come on! Try to touch me! If I can't deal with you, I won't be surnamed Wang!"
Arrogant!
She was extremely arrogant.
Refused, this woman, in her anger, had completely lost her composure.
Xiao Fei hesitated for a moment; he really wanted to slap her a few times!
But he thought again and decided not to act rashly. Now was not the best time to break ties with the Liu family. He would need to deal with Liu Zhenhai if he wanted to contract the village's hill.
It wouldn't be in his best interest to become enemies with the Liu family over such a small matter.
A gentleman's revenge is ten years in the making, and besides, Xiao Fei felt that perhaps in a few months, their family could turn things around in the village.
When that time came, if the Liu family was still as arrogant and domineering as now, and if they offended his family, he could retaliate even more.
After all, reality was not a wish-fulfillment novel where one could easily settle scores.
Xiao Yang was held by his father, scolded, and sent back into the house.
Wang Guizhi stood at the door of the Xiao family, cursing loudly. Seeing that the Xiao family didn't dare to do anything to her, the men could only stand there and listen, she felt even more satisfied.
She continued to shout, "Xiao Youjin, you decide! Xiao Yang must apologize to me! Otherwise, this matter won't be over!"
"Mom, stop talking! We're neighbors, can't we just talk things out? Why all the fuss? I'm embarrassed, and you should be too!" Liu Xinmei tried to persuade her mother.
"You brat, how can you talk to me like that? When have I ever been unreasonable in an argument? You make it sound like I'm being unreasonable and aggressive," Wang Guizhi muttered, her voice lowering.
She had three sons, and Liu Xinmei was her only daughter.
Her three sons were all rather dim-witted and had dropped out of school early. Only Liu Xinmei had gone to high school, and her grades were not bad. This year was her first time taking the college entrance exam, and her estimated score was good, giving her a good chance of getting into college.
She had always been very fond of Liu Xinmei.
After venting her anger, Wang Guizhi felt better.
She still harbored some hope that the marriage exchange between the Xiao family and her brother's family could be arranged. If things escalated to the point where the two families became enemies, the matter would be completely ruined.
Wang Guizhi couldn't bear that.
Her foolish nephew wouldn't find a match even with a marriage exchange.
Wang Guizhi left with a sullen face.
Liu Xinmei, however, stayed behind to talk to Xiao Fei.
She and Xiao Fei had been classmates since elementary school. In Xili Village, only she and Xiao Fei attended the county high school. However, when they were divided into classes in their second year of high school, Liu Xinmei chose the science stream.
"Xiao Fei, how did your estimated score turn out?" Liu Xinmei asked casually.
She was tall, with a long face, fairly good features, and fair skin, quite attractive.
"Not good," Xiao Fei said indifferently. He had no good feelings toward her mother, so he naturally didn't show her any enthusiasm.
"Oh, how many points did you estimate?" Liu Xinmei asked again.
"About 410 points," Xiao Fei answered briefly.
"Ah! So few? Your grades have always been good, and your ranking has always been high," Liu Xinmei said, surprised.
"I did poorly on the exam," Xiao Fei said.
"Oh, I see. Don't be too upset, Xiao Fei. You have a good foundation. If you retake the exam, you still have a good chance," Liu Xinmei said.
"Thanks."
Xiao Fei just wanted to get rid of her quickly.
Xiao Fei knew that Liu Xinmei had done well this year. She had been admitted to H Province University as a first-time candidate, which was a big sensation in Xili Village, and the Liu family had been very proud of it.
Liu Xinmei, seeing Xiao Fei's lack of enthusiasm, blinked. She wanted to turn and leave but felt a bit reluctant. "Xiao Fei, why don't you ask about my estimated score?"
Xiao Fei was taken aback.
So, she wanted to show off in front of him.
"I know you did well, right?" Xiao Fei said with a hint of a sneer.
This made Liu Xinmei feel a bit uncomfortable, but she thought generously that perhaps he was jealous. She wouldn't take it to heart and smiled, nodding, "Yes, I estimated about 520 points. The teacher said I have a good chance of getting into a key university."
"Is that so? Congratulations then," Xiao Fei said.
Liu Xinmei pouted, "Xiao Fei, I feel like you've changed, a lot."
She turned and left.
Xiao Fei was surprised. This was the first person to say he had changed since he was reborn, and he didn't expect it to be Liu Xinmei.
