Chapter 7: Beautiful and Fierce

6 min read1,511 words

Wen Liang actually wasn't very familiar with Xu Yao. In high school, he had only heard that there were three outstanding girls at Qingyi High School: Ji Susu from Class 3, Ning Xiaoning from Class 7, and Xu Yao from Class 1. Apart from having a grudge with Ji Susu, he had never even seen the other two. Back then, Wen Liang would sit quietly at his desk in school and read martial arts novels at home, never participating in group activities, and of course, no one invited him to join. After three years of high school, there were still female classmates who didn't know there was such a person in the class, let alone the teachers. Only the chemistry teacher and the homeroom teacher knew his name.

This was partly due to an incident in a chemistry class where Wen Liang burned the chemistry teacher's skirt. It was hard for anyone to forget him after that.

Wen Liang truly got to know Xu Yao many years later in Beijing, during a chance encounter. Wen Liang and Tan Yu were hanging out in Xidan, and Tan Yu, being a bit of a pervert, started talking about a girl in front of them, pointing out a mole behind her ear, the smooth shoulders, and the shapely legs. Just as he was describing her long, white, jade-like legs, tragedy struck. The girl turned around and gave him a side kick, leaving a big footprint on his face.

This was Wen Liang's first impression of Xu Yao: beautiful and fierce!

After this chaotic and funny first meeting, their lives gradually intersected. When they discovered they were high school alumni, Xu Yao extended her slender, delicate hand, her beautiful face blushing slightly:

"Let's get to know each other. I'm Xu Yao, like Xu Xian and Yaochi."

Over time, they became more familiar and closer, but in the end, Wen Liang rejected Xu Yao's love. Even in matters of love, the beautiful and fierce girl was still fragile.

Now, let's go back to the present, over a decade ago. The white-clad girl, who was preparing for a fight by scratching her bottom, was stunned and asked in confusion, "How do you know me?"

Wen Liang's playful mood suddenly changed. Everything before him was so strange. The Xu Yao he knew was the sophisticated and capable urban woman in an OL uniform, the proud and stubborn girl who dared to love and hate, the elegant and charming woman with a thousand charms. He never imagined Xu Yao would have this side.

So innocent and cute!

Before Wen Liang could answer, Xu Yao seemed to have found the answer, nodding her head slightly and muttering to herself, "You live here, so there must be someone from the Municipal Committee at your place. It's not strange that you know me... Well, are we still fighting? Are you a man or not? Just say it!"

Wen Liang was still in a state of temporal disorientation and didn't pay much attention to the girl's words. He smiled and said, "Of course we're fighting. Why not? I'm waiting for the free ice cream..."

"Ha," Xu Yao laughed, a few strands of hair gently swaying in front of her delicate forehead. "Be careful, the wind might knock you down..." Before she finished speaking, she suddenly kicked up a clump of sand toward Wen Liang, then lunged forward, reaching for his left shoulder.

This was a special grappling technique used in the military, far more advanced than the common military boxing. It emphasized speed, accuracy, and ruthlessness, making it especially suitable for girls to use their smaller size to their advantage. Once a joint was caught, it would be locked, twisted, and pulled, rendering even someone as strong as Tyson powerless, leading to a painful and humiliating defeat.

Wen Liang didn't know these techniques, but since he knew the girl was Xu Yao, he was already on guard against her habits. This girl looked honest, but she would use any despicable move in a fight, which had once given him a headache.

He didn't panic, blocking her move with his left hand and leaning back slightly to avoid her. Then he turned, stepped forward, and reached out to throw her to the ground.

Little girl, I'll fight you the same way I did ten years later!

Xu Yao sneered, stopping her forward momentum, stomping her feet, and shifting her center of gravity. She bent her left elbow and rammed it into Wen Liang's chest, the move powerful and fierce, showing her true toughness.

Wen Liang was startled. Alright, you're serious, huh? If that hit, it would hurt for days, even if it didn't break any bones. He crossed his arms in front of his chest, and with a "bang," his forearm ached from the impact. As a man, it was bad enough that he wasn't as strong as a woman, but to be softer than her was a disgrace.

Before he could react, Xu Yao grabbed his wrist, twisted it, and locked his arm behind his back, then lifted it slightly, completing the classic police move of catching a thief. She then kicked him in the back of the knee, forcing him to kneel.

This was clearly a move to finish him off. Wen Liang was frustrated. If it weren't for his body's slower reaction after being reborn, he wouldn't have surrendered so easily. He would have fought for at least three hundred rounds and then engaged in a brutal hand-to-hand combat.

As the saying goes, when a person is about to die, they'll take as many as they can. Wen Liang hooked Xu Yao's legs with his own, ignoring the intense pain from his twisted arm, and used the momentum to flip over and pin her to the ground, using his shoulder to push her down.

With a scream, the two fell to the ground without any doubt.

Soft, warm lips pressed against his cheek, her light breath barely noticeable, the sweet fragrance surrounding his nose, the budding curves of the girl beneath him, and the delicate lines of her body, all visible through the thin summer clothes. In that moment, as Wen Liang pinned her down, he felt no embarrassment or fantasy as a sixteen-year-old boy, no lewdness or lust as a thirty-year-old man. What echoed in his heart was a gentle greeting, long overdue but still fresh:

"Let's get to know each other. I'm Wen Liang, like warmth and forgiveness."

Time seemed to freeze. Wen Liang playfully stared at Xu Yao's face until she came to her senses. Just as she was about to get angry, he stood up and laughed, "You lost!"

Xu Yao stood up, straightened her skirt, and although her beautiful face was slightly flushed, she didn't get angry over what had just happened. She had trained with her brother for years and never considered herself a girl when fighting. Today, she had come to find an aunt but saw a silly boy practicing jumps and kicks in the pool under 38-degree heat, which moved her, leading to this encounter.

Whether the boy was cheating or being despicable, he had still lost, and she had fallen first. She huffed, patted her skirt, and said, "I didn't bring money today. Let's have ice cream next time!"

Wen Liang tried hard not to laugh and said with a serious look, "Next time? More like never! You know, it's not ladylike to renege on a bet."

"Haha, you look so small and weak, but you're quite petty..." Xu Yao had that classic look of disdain. "Tomorrow, here, we'll fight again. If I lose, I'll buy you twenty ice creams. If you lose, you'll bark like a dog on the ground!"

Wen Liang was shocked and couldn't help but retort, "That's not a fair bet!"

"True, twenty ice creams cost twenty yuan, but barking like a dog is worth nothing. How about this: you bark while crawling around the playground three times?"

Seeing Xu Yao's bargaining, Wen Liang painfully lowered his head. The mischievous, troublemaking little girl was back.

To be fair, Xu Yao's skills were much better than Wen Liang's at the moment, but her strength was still limited. She didn't lock his arm tightly, as that could have caused a fracture.

In a fight, you have to be ruthless to both your enemy and yourself.

Xu Yao was also startled by the boy's sudden boldness and ferocity, which made her admire him a bit. That's why she didn't pursue the humiliation of being pinned down. A teenage girl's first stirrings of attraction, combined with such intimate contact, made her want to run away, no matter how open-minded she was.

Waving goodbye to Wen Liang, Xu Yao's heart pounded as she walked out of the residential building. Her face flushed with a charming blush, she secretly looked back and saw the boy still staring at her. She spat and walked away.
