Chapter 59

After attending Michelle's graduation ceremony, I arranged the affairs of the ranch. Actually, there wasn't much to arrange; mainly, it was about taking good care of the smart little animals on the ranch.
Mainly, it was about the little ones like Xiao Huizi and Erhuo.
Sitting on the plane flying to China, Michelle was very nervous. She was afraid that Liu Yuxuan's family wouldn't like her.
"Yuxuan, will your family dislike me?" Michelle asked worriedly.
"There's no need to be so nervous," Liu Yuxuan comforted her. "My parents are just as warm and welcoming as yours."
Despite Liu Yuxuan's constant reassurance, it didn't seem to help much. After all, this was Michelle's first time meeting the family.
The plane landed smoothly at Beijing International Airport. Li Xinyu and Li Xin Yue, brother and sister, came to pick up Liu Yuxuan.
"Brother Xuan, how was your trip to America? Is this your wife?" Li Xinyu asked, taking the luggage cart.
"Yes, this is my girlfriend Michelle," Liu Yuxuan said. "This is Li Xinyu, and this is Li Xin Yue."
"Hello, I'm Michelle, nice to meet you," Michelle said in Chinese, which sounded a bit strange but was understandable.
"Brother Xuan, can your wife understand Chinese?" Li Xinyu asked curiously.
"She can understand some simple phrases and can say a few greetings," Liu Yuxuan explained.
"Wow, your wife is amazing," Li Xinyu said, giving Michelle a thumbs up.
"Thank you, what does 'wife' mean? Is it a kind of food? I know 'amazing' means very good. Does 'wife' mean this food is very delicious?" Michelle, not knowing the meaning of 'wife,' asked Li Xinyu in a mix of Chinese and English.
At this point, Li Xin Yue stepped forward to explain the meaning of 'wife' to Michelle. Both siblings spoke English well and had often traveled abroad.
Women's friendships are magical. Before they even left the airport, Michelle and Li Xin Yue were already chatting happily in the back seat, like old friends.
"Brother Xuan, Michelle and I have decided not to go to the hotel. We'll stay at our place," Li Xin Yue said to Liu Yuxuan.
Liu Yuxuan had originally planned to stay at the Li family's house, but he had booked a hotel out of concern that Michelle might not be comfortable. He didn't expect that Michelle would be persuaded by Li Xin Yue to stay at their home so quickly.
"Okay, are the old man and Uncle Li at home?" Liu Yuxuan asked.
"Grandpa is at home, but my dad isn't. There seems to be some issues with the company in the UK, so he went to handle it. He told me to take good care of you before he left," Li Xinyu said, driving the car.
"Is everything okay? Is it troublesome?" Liu Yuxuan asked with concern.
"It's not too troublesome, but my dad needs to handle it personally. It seems to be a big deal," Li Xinyu said.
Michelle, in the car, showed no signs of travel fatigue, only curiosity about this legendary Eastern country. She kept looking out the window and asking Li Xin Yue questions.
They chatted and laughed all the way to the Li family's villa.
Walking into the courtyard, Liu Yuxuan saw the old man sitting in the pavilion, drinking tea. He quickly pulled Michelle forward to greet him, "Old man, how are you? It's been a long time since we last met. This is my girlfriend Michelle. You can just call her 'girl.'"
"Brat, how can you talk about her like that? She's a foreign friend, after all," the old man said, looking at Michelle and speaking in English, "Child, welcome to our China. If Yuxuan bullies you, tell me, and I'll deal with him."
"Wow, old man, you know English?" Liu Yuxuan asked in surprise.
"Don't be surprised. When I was a bodyguard for the leader, I met many foreign friends. I not only know English but can also speak some Russian," the old man said, giving Liu Yuxuan a stern look. "Do you think an old man can't speak foreign languages?"
Michelle was very happy. In her previous impression, China's development was still in its early stages. She never expected it to be so different. The things she saw on the car ride and the people she met completely changed her perception. She was even more pleased that the three people she met could speak English, which she had been worried about.
"Yuxuan, shall we have Chinese or Western food for dinner?" the old man asked, unsure if Michelle could adapt to Chinese food.
"Chinese food is fine. Michelle likes it a lot," Liu Yuxuan understood the old man's concern.
"Chinese cuisine is very delicious and great," Michelle chimed in.
"Good, then we'll have Chinese food," the old man confirmed, then added, "Xinyu, tell the kitchen to put in some effort. We can't lose face for China."
"Old man, there's no need to go to so much trouble. A simple meal will do. Michelle doesn't have many requirements," Liu Yuxuan quickly interjected. It was already a hassle to stay at the Li family's house, and now to have the kitchen go all out was inappropriate.
Li Xinyu didn't pay attention to what Liu Yuxuan said. In the Li family, the old man's word was law. Even his father had to obey, let alone him. He thought to himself, "If I'm making food for you, old man, those chefs wouldn't dare to slack off."
There were no luxurious dishes, just some home-cooked meals, but the chef's skills were excellent.
Liu Yuxuan had long missed the taste of China. He hadn't prepared anything last time and couldn't easily get Chinese ingredients in America, as his place was far from Chinatown. As soon as the dishes were served, he couldn't wait to try them.
"Yuxuan, you can't eat yet. I need to take pictures first. This is authentic Chinese cuisine," Michelle said, taking photos with her phone.
So, every time a dish was served, she would take photos before letting Liu Yuxuan eat.
"Oh, my God, I'm going to gain a lot of weight when I get back to America," Michelle said, complaining while eating non-stop.
Liu Yuxuan was speechless. She was afraid of gaining weight but still ate so much.
Michelle had already learned to use chopsticks and used the communal chopsticks to serve everyone during the meal.
The old man was very satisfied with Michelle. She was a good girl, generous and not shy, yet still polite.
After dinner, they didn't go out to play. After such a long flight, they were still tired. They sat in the living room drinking tea.
The tea the old man served was not the kind sold on the street.
Michelle took a sip, "Yuxuan, this drink is very good. It's a bit bitter and has a fresh aroma. It's a completely different feeling from coffee. Why didn't you make this for me when we were in America?"
Liu Yuxuan smiled bitterly and said, "This is Chinese tea, and the roasting process is very demanding. We're drinking top-quality tea, which is like authentic Blue Mountain coffee. There are no Chinese supermarkets in our town, so we couldn't get Chinese tea. We'll bring some back this time."
After drinking tea for a while, Michelle suddenly slapped her forehead, "Oh, my God, I was so busy enjoying Chinese cuisine that I forgot to give you all the gifts. That's impolite. Please wait a moment."
She ran upstairs, opened her luggage, and took out the gifts she had prepared.
They weren't expensive items, as the Li family was already very wealthy. The gifts were small trinkets made by cowboys, with a strong Western flavor.
Liu Yuxuan briefly introduced the ranch situation in America to the old man. Michelle added details, talking about how the fire was, how the big turtle was, and how Liu Yuxuan found a group of deer.
Li Xin Yue was envious and decided to study in Texas after graduation so she could often visit Liu Yuxuan's ranch.
