Chapter 75 of 100
Chapter 75
12 min read3,055 words
Liel slept very comfortably at the pastoral ranch. The air here is good, it's quiet, and there was the delicious Eastern-style grilled meat from last night. Thinking about the grilled meat, Liel couldn't help but swallow his saliva.
That grilled meat was truly delicious, not only very tasty but also had a unique flavor.
"Angela, are you going to work?" Professor Liel asked Fangfang, who was wearing a work uniform and heading towards the stable.
"Yes, Grandpa Liel, I'm going to take care of my Snow White," Fangfang said without stopping.
"What a sensible child," Professor Liel praised, thinking to himself that she was not only sensible but also very cute.
"Professor Liel, did you rest well last night?" Liu Yuxuan asked after getting up.
"Liu, I am very grateful for your hospitality. I think I have fallen in love with this place. If it weren't for my work at the university, I would want to live here for the rest of my life," Professor Liel said regretfully.
"Professor Liel, you are here to study forage grass, right? If you stay a bit longer, you will find it even harder to leave," Liu Yuxuan said jokingly.
"Oh, my goodness, this is a happy dilemma," Professor Liel said, scratching his head in mock frustration.
Liu Yuxuan also liked Professor Liel. As a professor at the University of Texas, he didn't put on airs. Instead, he offered to compensate for any possible disruption to the ranch's normal life.
"Professor Liel, you can feel at home here on the ranch. Do your research with peace of mind, and let me know if you need anything," Liu Yuxuan said to Professor Liel, thinking what a lovely old man he was.
After saying goodbye to Professor Liel, Liu Yuxuan found Garcia.
"Garcia, how are our pregnant cows?" Liu Yuxuan asked. Last night, Michelle reminded him that there were new lives about to be born on the ranch, which was a very important moment. He had almost forgotten about it.
"They are all in the cowshed. They will give birth this afternoon, or at the latest by tomorrow," Garcia said. He had been taking care of the three pregnant cows for the past few days.
"Thank you, Garcia. I have no experience, so I rely on you," Liu Yuxuan said, a bit embarrassed.
"OK, boss, don't worry, there won't be any problems," Garcia assured him. This was his job, and it was a great honor to have the boss's full trust.
"Michelle, do you have anything to do today?" Liu Yuxuan asked Michelle, who was coming out of the stable.
"What could I have to do? Today, I will just assist Professor Liel with some research," Michelle said.
"Then would you accompany me to town to buy a car? Now that there are more people on the ranch, one pickup truck is not enough. I really need your advice," Liu Yuxuan invited.
"Alright, I'll go ask Professor Liel if there's anything important to do this morning," Michelle said, being very serious about her work.
After asking Professor Liel, who had nothing important to do in the morning and only needed to take some samples, Michelle went with Liu Yuxuan to the car dealership in town.
In the United States, there are no 4S stores like in China; there are only brand agents. Each dealership has a repair shop nearby, which is the best but also the most expensive place for repairs.
"Yuxuan, what kind of car do you plan to buy?" Michelle asked.
"I want to buy a sedan for my parents to drive, and then I'll buy a pickup truck for myself," Liu Yuxuan said.
As they talked, they walked into an Audi dealership.
"Hello, can I help you with anything?" a young man asked politely.
"I want to buy a family sedan, something safe for older people to drive," Michelle said.
"Sure, follow me. How about this A6?" the young man said, leading them to an Audi A6.
"This A6 has just been launched in the U.S. The base model has a 2.0TFSI four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine with a maximum output of 211 horsepower. It has an automatic transmission and is priced at $41,700. It's very suitable for your needs. You can take it for a test drive, and there are also higher-end models available," the young man introduced.
Liu Yuxuan chose Audi because he trusted German cars, unlike Japanese cars, which can be easily dented by a bicycle.
Liu Yuxuan took a test drive and found it quite good. It was also suitable for his mother to drive without any unnecessary modifications. Michelle also took a test drive and was quite satisfied.
The young man was very enthusiastic and offered several gifts. Although it was a newly launched model, the dealer had plenty of stock, and the car could be taken immediately. All the paperwork and license plates were done for less than $50,000.
It's so cheap, in China, it would cost over 600,000 yuan, Liu Yuxuan thought as he looked for a Ford dealership.
This time, he planned to buy the Ford F-150 Raptor that Li Xinyu recommended. Although he liked the Cadillac pickup truck at home and hadn't driven it for long, buying the same model in the U.S. felt a bit awkward.
Moreover, he noticed that Michelle also liked the large pickup truck. She would carefully examine it every time she sat in it and even secretly drove it around once. So, this time, he set his sights on the large pickup truck.
Pickup trucks are the favorite of American ranchers. In the Ford dealership, the entire showroom was filled with pickup trucks, not a single sedan.
The selection was quick. Liu Yuxuan chose a long-bed model, which cost less than $40,000, surprisingly cheaper than the A6 he had just bought.
Liu Yuxuan liked it very much, especially the large FORD letters on the grille. Following Michelle's advice, he requested some modifications from the dealer. The total cost came to $90,000.
He left his address with the dealer, and the modified car would be delivered in a week.
When they left the dealership, Liu Yuxuan was still a bit dazed. Two different feelings were impacting his brain: cars in the U.S. are cheap, but modifications are expensive. The cost of modifications could buy another car.
But seeing Michelle's delighted and expectant expression, Liu Yuxuan felt better. If the modifications were expensive, so be it. Since he would use it frequently, it would be more comfortable to have a well-modified car.
When they returned to the ranch, Liu's mother was very happy to hear that the Audi A6 was for her. She had seen such cars in the county, driven by big bosses. She never thought that at her age, she would be able to drive one.
This gave Michelle a new task: teaching Liu's mother how to drive. This was Liu's mother's idea, as she wanted to deepen her relationship with her future daughter-in-law.
Michelle happily agreed. Liu's mother asking her to teach was a sign of trust.
Automatic cars are easy to drive. After a short familiarization, Liu's mother could already drive slowly. The ranch was spacious and her own, making it convenient to practice driving. Once she was proficient, she could take the driving test.
At dinner, Liu's mother was very happy. She sat next to Michelle and occasionally chatted about driving techniques.
"Grandpa, will the cows give birth to calves today?" Fangfang asked while eating. When she came home, she saw Uncle Garcia always around the cowshed, knowing that the cows were about to give birth.
"Yes, Fangfang, probably tonight. Then you will have new playmates," Liu Yuxuan said, swallowing the food in his mouth.
"Great, Fangfang will go see the cows after finishing her homework," Fangfang said, quickly eating to finish her homework and go see the cows.
