Chapter 8

2 min read559 words

After I first spread fertilizer in the field and distributed the enriched soil throughout, a year has passed.

I have turned three years old.

Until now, I still had a strong baby vibe, but I am gradually becoming a proper toddler, one who fits the word "child."

As for the field, it's doing quite well.

Until now, the harvest of potatoes, carrots, and onions wasn't much.

However, now, when I plant potatoes, I can get twenty from one seedling, and when I plant carrot seeds, I can get plenty of sweet and smooth carrots. The onions have grown fat and round, large and plump. Now, the vegetables from the Guoara family's field are highly praised by the neighbors for their deliciousness.

Furthermore, S-grade materials are abundant.

When the S-grade material, [Special Herb], first started growing in the field, my mother screamed, and my father put up a fence around the field where the herbs grew to hide them from view.

It seems that it wasn't good for people to know that S-grade materials were growing in an ordinary family's field.

My parents hid the fact that S-grade materials were harvested from the field and claimed that my father, who is a hunter, had collected them from the forest. Then, through my father's connections, he seems to be selling them to a tool shop.

The many S-grade materials that grew in the field, such as [Special Herb], [Special Sleep Grass], and [Special Explosive Flower], are harvested and dried by my mother, and sold by my father. This way, we were able to obtain a lot of funds.

With this, I believe I have accomplished everything I initially planned:

- Revitalizing my father

- Enriching the field and securing an income source

So, our family should have been able to escape poverty...

"Still poor, after all..."

Scarily, we are not getting any richer. The poverty just keeps going on.

I have investigated why our family is poor within my capabilities. What I found out is—

"It seems they are in debt."

Yes, it seems that my parents have borrowed money from someone, and they are struggling to make ends meet due to the repayment and other expenses.

But, is that even possible?

My parents, who are healthy and young, work tirelessly, sell the S-grade materials that grow in the field, and have a bountiful harvest of vegetables, so we don't lack food. Yet, they can't pay off their debts...

I think the debt was probably incurred after my father fell ill. It's hard to imagine that the two of them, who worked diligently, would have fallen into debt before I was born.

Indeed, the period when my father fell ill and my mother couldn't work, around one month after my birth, seems suspicious.

It's reasonable to assume that our family ran out of money during that period, and either my father or mother took out a loan, and the repayment has continued to the present day.

"...They must be being deceived."

Isn't that the case? I have a strong feeling that my parents have been deceived or set up in some way.

That's why, when the door was knocked on roughly, I thought, "Finally, they've come."

"Hey! Open the door! I know you're in there!"

"Pay back the money you borrowed quickly!!"

—Clearly, it's the debt collector, not a regular person.
