After listening to the words of Song Hong, the party secretary of the township, Wang Tiancheng was somewhat puzzled. "If he wants to come, let him come. What does it have to do with me? He can't possibly want to talk to me, can he?" Wang Tiancheng knew that when the Organization Department wanted to talk, it usually meant either a promotion or a transfer. He had only been there for less than a week, so he didn't think it was likely.
"Beautiful Secretary, I understand. I'll head back right away," Wang Tiancheng said casually. He didn't know when he started calling Song Hong "Beautiful Secretary" in private, but it made things feel casual and intimate, even though Wang Tiancheng himself couldn't understand why he felt so close to this beautiful Song Hong.
Wang Tiancheng hung up the phone, still thinking about Miao Xiaoxiao. The situation was too sudden. They were still flirting just a moment ago, and now they were going their separate ways. Wang Tiancheng shook his head helplessly and hailed a taxi.
During the ride, Wang Tiancheng was silent, quietly watching the scenery fly by outside the window. He thought about the unpredictability of life and remembered his initial thoughts. At the time, he had been impulsive, but once he truly entered the political arena, he realized how difficult it was. There was danger at every moment, and he was constantly being schemed against.
More than an hour later, Wang Tiancheng arrived at Song Hong's office. Inside, two strangers were sitting.
"Secretary Song, you wanted to see me?" Wang Tiancheng said seriously, looking at the beautiful Secretary Song Hong. After all, there were outsiders present, so it wasn't the time for jokes or flirtation.
"Ah, Tiancheng, let me introduce you. This is Director Mi from the Organization Department, and this is Secretary Liu," Song Hong introduced Wang Tiancheng warmly. She was very happy today, not expecting Wang Tiancheng to be promoted so quickly. This speed was like riding a rocket.
"Hello, Director Mi, Secretary Liu," Wang Tiancheng said warmly, extending his hand.
Director Mi shook his hand casually and then sat in his chair, looking at Wang Tiancheng. "You're Wang Tiancheng, right? According to the county's arrangements, you have been appointed as the deputy director of the industrial park, at the deputy section level, responsible for the overall work of the industrial park."
Wang Tiancheng was stunned. This was too sudden. Although a deputy section level position wasn't a big deal for a second-generation official like Wang Tiancheng, it was a necessary step for promotion, and he couldn't skip it. But today, it actually happened. He had only been working for a few days and was already promoted. This was too much for Wang Tiancheng to handle.
What puzzled Wang Tiancheng was that if he was being promoted, why was he being given overall responsibility as a deputy director? What would the director do? Wang Tiancheng felt something was fishy, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it. He didn't believe in falling from the sky. As the saying goes, if something good happens suddenly, it's either a pie in the sky or a trap. Wang Tiancheng believed it was more likely a trap. But he had no choice in the matter; unless he wanted to leave the political arena, he had to accept the appointment.
Wang Tiancheng was absolutely not going to leave the political arena. Thinking of his grand plans, he became more determined. Even if it was a trap, he would have to face it, because there were also opportunities in traps.
"There's one thing I don't understand. Who is the director, and why am I responsible for the overall work? I'm afraid I might not be able to handle it," Wang Tiancheng said, puzzled. Even if he was walking into a trap, he wanted to understand it.
"The director is concurrently held by Director Pang from the Investment Promotion Bureau, but the bureau has too many things to handle, so the director rarely goes there. Therefore, the director is just a nominal position, and all the actual work is handled by the deputy director," Director Mi said seriously. He was a bit unhappy because many people would be thrilled to have such a good position. The industrial park was a lucrative post, dealing with many companies, and there would be no shortage of money, food, and drink.
"Should we hold a meeting to announce it?" Song Hong asked with a smile, afraid that Wang Tiancheng might ask more questions. After all, this was a good thing, and if the Organization Department people were unhappy, the opportunity might be lost. Song Hong was genuinely happy for Wang Tiancheng. Even she hadn't achieved as much as Wang Tiancheng had at his age. He would likely become a township head or party secretary in a few years, with a bright future ahead.
"That's not necessary. I'll announce it. After all, the industrial park is a full-section-level entity directly under the county party committee and government, on par with the townships," Director Mi said with a smile. He was very polite to Song Hong, the party secretary, as she was the top leader, and he was only a deputy section chief.
Wang Tiancheng, who had experienced many things, quickly picked up on Director Mi's reaction. He smiled and said, "Director Mi, don't leave at noon. I'll treat you to a good meal."
Director Mi was slightly taken aback but then smiled happily. "You're a good young man. I won't be polite then."
Wang Tiancheng felt a bit nauseous. The change was so quick. It seemed that in the political arena, a good mouth and treating people to meals were essential for smooth sailing.
"The township party committee will treat you to lunch, as a farewell for Xiao Wang. Xiao Wang, go and ask Township Head Zhou to gather the leadership team at Liu Village Hotel in town," Song Hong said happily. She had her own thoughts. She needed to curry favor with the Organization Department people. She didn't want to stay in this place, a hundred miles from the county, forever. This was an opportunity for her to transfer back to the city.
Wang Tiancheng, seeing Song Hong's happy smile, left the office happily and headed straight for Township Head Zhou's office. Zhou was drinking tea in his office, still upset about yesterday's incident. Even though he knew the Organization Department people were coming, he had no mood, especially since it was just a section chief, not even a full section chief. Zhou decided to sulk in his office.
"Township Head Zhou, Secretary Song asked you to gather the leadership team at Liu Village Hotel," Wang Tiancheng said directly as he entered Zhou's office. He didn't bother being polite with Zhou.
Zhou's facial muscles twitched when he saw Wang Tiancheng. The events of the previous night were still fresh in his mind. Thinking about the leverage Wang Tiancheng had, he quickly stood up and smiled, offering Wang Tiancheng a seat.
Wang Tiancheng sat down without hesitation, thinking about the morning when he was surrounded by thugs. He was angry and warned Zhou, "Township Head Zhou, you really know how to play your cards. But I was lucky. Even the urban management and the police station couldn't keep me. It seems your connections aren't as strong as you thought."
Wang Tiancheng then left the office.
Zhou was furious but quickly became happy. He knew that Wang Tiancheng was about to become the deputy director of the industrial park and was about to fall into the county party secretary's trap.
