A large and a small figure leaned against the roadside steps, swinging their legs. Li Han looked a bit listless, never realizing that taking care of an infant could be so exhausting, especially one with incredible strength, capable of kicking off blankets with a single kick. Li Han regretted it; raising a child was indeed a massive project, not a simple matter. At that moment, Li Han would rather lose ten years of his life than raise a child. It was a mess; he hadn't even figured out the functions of the space, and he had already sacrificed so much. Indeed, what seemed like a pie from the sky might just be a hard stone from God's toilet.
There was nothing he could do. Li Han thought about contacting Wei Li or Kelly to find a solution. For now, he needed to solve the little one's breakfast problem, or she would keep biting him. "Dudu, be good, okay?" Li Han didn't know if Dudu could understand, but he had to say something before picking up the little one. He went to the convenience store and headed straight for the milk and soft food section. "Don't you want any?" After trying several samples, Dudu ignored them all. It was a disaster. Finally, Li Han went to the cheese section, where there were many well-known European brands, though they were not cheap.
Sure enough, little Dudu seemed to have found a familiar taste. A small bottle of soft cheese cost twenty-five dollars. Li Han gritted his teeth and decided to skip breakfast himself. "Damn, I was so focused on finding high-quality genes that I didn't investigate the family background. How could I know what her tastes would be like?"
Dudu's picky mouth clearly indicated that her mother must have come from a wealthy family, where she never had to worry about food or clothing. It made sense; a girl as beautiful as her, if from an ordinary family, Li Han wouldn't believe it, especially with a female bodyguard wearing red high heels and white underwear. "I can't blame them; the system is really messing with me."
Li Han sighed. He couldn't just find the parents and say, "This is your daughter; give me some money for child support."
Li Han thought about checking if the pickup truck was still there after eating. If it was, he could drive back and think of a plan on the way. As he stood up, intending to carry Dudu, the little one, who looked big but could only sit and crawl, waved her little hands and made sounds. Li Han walked back along the road to where he had woken up yesterday, only to encounter the two Asian girls who had woken him up.
"Mr., you're okay, that's great."
"Hello, I haven't thanked you for yesterday." Li Han had a good impression of the girls; kind people always made others feel close. Dudu seemed to recognize the big sisters and waved her little hands, making sounds.
"So cute, your daughter is so adorable, like a little angel." Han Ximin and Li Xi were completely captivated by the little one in Li Han's arms, with her beautiful, big, sparkling eyes and charming smile.
"This body has my blood, so I guess she's my daughter, right?" Li Han's voice lacked confidence; after all, his share was small.
Han Ximin and Li Xi's expressions froze, and their faces turned strange, especially Li Xi, who almost couldn't hold back her laughter. Han Ximin nodded. "I think so."
"That's good, that's good. Dudu, her Chinese name, and her English name hasn't been decided yet."
"Pandora." Dudu waved her little hands and opened her mouth, speaking clearly. Li Han was surprised and carefully examined the little meatball in his arms, unsure if it was really Dudu who had spoken.
"Pandora?" Han Ximin and Li Xi covered their mouths in surprise. Pandora wasn't a good name; she was the goddess who opened the box of darkness. Li Han smiled bitterly and shook his head. Was it a genetic issue or a system problem? Li Han knew the meaning of Pandora; she was the first woman in the world, which made sense. Perhaps she was the first girl created to be this big. Li Han scratched his head awkwardly. "Maybe her mother named her, hehe."
Just then, Li Han's stomach growled, making him even more embarrassed.
"Xi, I'm hungry. There's a Chinese food takeout place up ahead; the food is pretty good." Han Ximin tugged at Li Xi, looking pitiful and winking at her.
Li Xi helplessly patted her forehead. "Alright." "Mr., come with us, Xi will treat you." Han Ximin turned happily to invite Li Han, making small gestures to the baby.
Li Han wasn't thin-skinned, but he felt a bit embarrassed. However, he was really hungry. "That's too much trouble."
"It's no problem; eating together is more enjoyable." After a few polite refusals, Li Han agreed with Han Ximin and Li Xi's encouragement.
On the way, Li Han learned from Han Ximin that the two girls were named Han Ximin and Li Xi. Han Ximin was of Chinese-Korean descent, with a Chinese father and a Korean mother. She had lived in Shanghai for a few years and could speak simple Chinese. Li Xi was completely from Shanghai. Both were in Harvard Law School, and Li Xi seemed particularly interested in Korean. They used English for class and Korean or Chinese for private conversations, practicing with each other.
"This restaurant isn't very authentic, but the food is quite good. This one is cleaner, and students often come here. On weekends, local residents also visit frequently." Han Ximin whispered, seeming to have a good understanding of food. Li Xi was more serious, speaking little and often looking a bit helpless, usually being more tolerant of Han Ximin. Han Ximin was a few months older than Li Xi, but Li Xi seemed more like the older sister.
Although Li Han had been in the U.S. for four or five years, he had mostly stayed in the small town of Commissary in Montana, where there were no Chinese restaurants. He had only heard about Chinese restaurants in the U.S. "The food is really good." Li Han smiled, truly feeling hungry. He ate two bowls of rice during the conversation.
"Your appetite is really good." Han Ximin smiled and signaled the waiter to add two more dishes. Dudu swung her legs and bit her pacifier, showing no interest in the food on the table, occasionally snuggling into Li Han's arms. The meal cost nearly forty dollars, which Li Xi paid for. Li Han only had a few scattered dollars in his pocket, not even enough for a tip, which was quite embarrassing, especially when he met Li Xi and Han Ximin's classmates with strange looks.
"Thank you so much for the meal. If there's a chance, I'll cook a Chinese meal for you as a thank you." Li Han was very grateful, appreciating the kindness of meeting fellow Chinese in a foreign country.
"Xi, how much money do you have left?" Han Ximin nudged Li Xi and asked softly.
"Ximin, we've only met him twice." Li Xi took out her wallet, which had less than fifty dollars left. "That's all I have."
"It doesn't seem enough. I forgot my wallet in the dorm. Xi, can you come with me to get it?"
"Ximin, you're too kind." Although Li Xi said this, seeing Li Han in second-hand clothes and Dudu's torn T-shirt, her heart softened. "Alright, but just this once."
"Got it. Han, I don't have much money on me. Can you come with us to the dorm?" Han Ximin said happily, touching Li Han's heart with her kindness. "Thank you, you're a kind angel."
Li Han carried Dudu and followed Han Ximin and Li Xi. Dudu, who had been quiet, now had a few glass fragments in her hand, which seemed to be energy fragments from the space. Ignoring it, Li Han was glad she was quiet.
The dorm wasn't far, and Han Ximin and Li Xi had good relationships with many people, who greeted Li Han. Not far from the dorm, they met another Chinese student. As Li Han sized up the slightly tanned student, the student also sized up Li Han, with a hint of hostility.
"This is Liu Xu, from Guangzhou, China. Liu Xu, this is Li Han, also Chinese, and Dudu, Li Han's daughter."
"Bad guy." To everyone's surprise, Dudu threw the energy fragment at Liu Xu. Despite her small size, she had considerable strength.
"You." Liu Xu didn't expect to be hit with a stone, and he certainly didn't think a child so young could do such a thing. Perhaps the smiling, innocent-looking Li Han had secretly instructed her.
"Sorry about that." Li Han was shocked; Dudu occasionally said things he hadn't taught her.
"Forget it, I have something to do. I'll leave. Ximin, not everyone is good; be careful." Liu Xu turned and walked away. A white man quickly approached, picked up the energy fragment Dudu had thrown, and examined it with wide eyes, disbelief, and a magnifying glass.
