After breakfast, Li Han drove the family in his pickup truck to the small town to buy some daily necessities. It was rare for them to come to America, so the whole family wanted to experience American life.
"This supermarket isn't much different." The family came out of the supermarket, and Mother Zhang Xiuying said. Li Han smiled and replied, "Mom, supermarkets are all the same. There's a second-hand store up ahead. People usually sell things they don't use or can't auction off here. Why don't we take a look?"
"Xiao Han, forget it, what's the point of looking at second-hand stuff?" The family wasn't interested, so Li Han didn't insist. The second-hand store was a place he often visited, and the items were really cheap and still usable, quite economical.
"Let's go to the cowboy store instead. I can buy you all some clothes for riding horses." Li Han pointed to a small store not far away. "This kid, let's go and see. If you want to know what's different about America, the sky is pretty blue, the streets are very clean, and there are even chairs by the roadside. Look, the lawns are so well-maintained."
As they walked, the streets were indeed very clean, unlike the dark and dirty streets back home. The roads here were as if they had been washed, very clean. The lawns were well-maintained, and the leaves were neatly swept. There weren't many people in the small town, and it was quiet. People walking by nodded and smiled, and the shopkeepers were quite friendly. The town was small, and Li Han knew most of the people, who nodded at his parents without disturbing them as they shopped.
"Indeed, it's very clean here, and the air is good. I thought places with cows and sheep would be dirty," Li Mei said. Li Han smiled and replied, "Cattle farms are a bit dirty, but ranches are much better. Most of the places in Mestar are farms, with fewer ranches. The cattle and sheep are not many, and the auction grounds and cattle markets are quite far from the town."
As they spoke, they arrived at the cowboy store. The store sold cowboy gear—lassos, bandanas, hats, clothes, boots, saddles, and ropes. Li Han walked into the store, and a middle-aged white man smiled and came over. "Hank, welcome. What do you need?"
"Beers, I want to buy a few sets of cowboy clothes and some pairs of boots. Can you help me choose?" Li Han introduced his family, and Beers nodded, looking them over. There was still some difficulty with communication.
"Han, I think these are all good. This pair of jeans is designed very well. The pockets are close to the waist, and when you wear a belt, the pocket openings are securely covered, so things won't fall out. The high and deep crotch makes it comfortable for cowboys to ride. The waistband length is just right for a thick cowboy belt, and the distance between the two is perfect for the large buckle. The smooth rivets not only reinforce the seams but also won't scratch the saddle. The leg width is just right to cover the cowboy boots, neither too loose nor too tight. The seven waistband loops distribute the belt's tension evenly, and the entire pants fit snugly around the waist, so the shirt won't easily come out." Beers introduced a pair of jeans, and Li Han translated for Zhang Xiuying and the others.
"They are indeed good. Beers, I think I'll take them. They feel comfortable." Li Han nodded and turned to Zhang Xiuying and the others. "Mom, Dad, Sister, Brother-in-law, try them on and see how they feel."
Seeing his parents agree, Li Han said to Beers, "Beers, I think we need to change our clothes first." "Yes, Han, I think you're right. Gentlemen and ladies, this way, please." Li Han nodded at Zhang Xiuying and the others. "Mom, try them on and see how they look."
Outside, only Dudu and Bao Bao were left. The two little ones curiously looked around, especially Bao Bao, who had never seen such things before, touching this and that. "Uncle, Uncle, Bao Bao wants this." Bao Bao pointed to a pair of suspenders with a bear head pocket, which was quite interesting. "Beers, I want to buy two sets of clothes for the kids, one set of suspenders and one set of cowboy outfits. Can you help me find them?"
"No problem, Han. Wait a moment, I remember having some nice clothes." Beers thought for a moment and found two small cowboy outfits for Dudu and Bao Bao. "They are really cute little elves. Han, maybe a pair of boots would be better."
"Of course, I think handmade leather boots with patterns would be good, but I don't like too many decorations." Li Han said, and Beers smiled and shook his head. "Alright, that's too bad."
Beers found two pairs of high-quality leather boots for Dudu and Bao Bao. Dudu held the clothes and boots and ran into the changing room to change. Bao Bao pouted and lowered her head, not knowing how to change. Li Han had no choice but to help Bao Bao change. When he came out with Bao Bao, the whole family had already changed. Li Han smiled at Beers. "I think we should add a nice hat. Beers, what do you think?"
"Of course, Han, you're right. I have the best hats here." Beers was very happy and helped pick out cowboy hats. They were really good, and now they looked the part. "A bit uncomfortable," Zhang Xiuying said, unwilling to wear the outfit, so she only chose a loose pair of jeans and a women's cowboy hat.
Li Mei and Zhou Bin, Li Han's father, liked the boots and chose a pair. The two little ones wore Mexican-style wide-brimmed felt hats, decorative bullet belts, jeans, and tight-fitting multi-pocket cowboy shirts, with patterned high-quality leather boots and colorful bandanas. They looked very cute, and Li Han's mother Zhang Xiuying and Li Mei took many photos of them posing.
Not bad at all, Li Han was quite satisfied. He bought a few pairs of bear-head pocket suspenders to wear when working. After leaving the cowboy store, Zhou Bin came to Li Han and touched his arm. "Xiao Han, where is the gun store you mentioned yesterday?"
"Brother-in-law, don't worry, it's not far. We'll get there soon." Li Han didn't expect his brother-in-law to be so eager. Zhang Xiuying had told him not to buy guns, so Li Han pretended to be casual. They didn't walk far before they reached the gun store. Li Han smiled and said a few words to Bao Bao and Dudu, and the two little girls ran to the gun store, shouting to buy guns.
"These two kids, come out quickly." Zhang Xiuying glared at her son, and Li Han smiled. "Mom, it's okay, let's go in and take a look." "Oh, my God, Han, it's great to see you."
"Thomas, my old friend, how have you been?" Li Han gave Thomas a hug. Compared to Beers, Thomas was a great old man. Li Han and Thomas had a good relationship, both being gun collectors. Li Han collected Colt revolvers and some pistols, including the oldest lock wheel pistols, flintlock pistols, percussion cap pistols, and various Colt pistols. It was a pity that Li Han never had enough money to buy a complete set of Colt Python revolvers, which were now discontinued and cost thousands of dollars to custom order.
"Yes, Han, your old friend is doing well. Perhaps you should take a look at my new collection. I'm sure you'll like this big guy." Thomas said excitedly.
"No, Thomas, I don't have time to look at your new collection today." Li Han said, paying attention to his brother-in-law Zhou Bin. "That's too bad, Han. What do you need? Perhaps, Han, you should take a look at this."
"Oh, the Python, this 4-inch barrel is shiny and perfect. Thomas, I think this should belong to me." Li Han was attracted by the two revolvers in front of him. Dudu and Bao Bao were on tiptoe, eagerly watching.
"Han, my friend, would you pay $2,000 for them? I have no reason to stop you," Thomas said. "Of course, I'll write a check." Li Han tried the guns, and indeed, they were good.
"Uncle, Bao Bao wants it." Bao Bao pulled Li Han and pointed to the revolver in his hand. Dudu also pulled Li Han from the other side. "Alright." Li Han didn't think much and handed the guns to Bao Bao and Dudu. Without bullets, the guns were not much different from toys. "Thomas, I want to buy some blank ammunition." "Sure, no problem." Thomas didn't mind that Li Han gave the guns to Bao Bao and Dudu, as Li Han had already provided his identity information.
On the other side, Zhou Bin was interested in a shotgun. Li Han walked over and smiled. "Brother-in-law, this isn't a good thing."
"Ha ha, I've heard a lot about it. It appears quite often in Hong Kong movies," Zhou Bin said, touching the shotgun.
"Brother-in-law, why don't you try it? Thomas, get some ammunition. I want to try this thing." Li Han took the shotgun and said to Thomas. There was a shooting range in the back of the store, and Li Han also wanted to try the Smith & Wesson M500, which he had long wanted.
