"Ha ha, Uncle Big Lazybones is finally up." Early in the morning, BaoBao and Dudu were teasing Li Han. Last night, Li Han had accompanied Zhou Hao, Zhou Rui, and Wu Miaomiao for a stroll, which was quite tiring. He had gone to bed late and thus woke up a bit late this morning.
After getting up and tidying up, Li Han went downstairs with the two little ones. Zhou Hao and the others were already up. Wu Miaomiao and Zhou Rui were helping their mother tidy up the room and prepare vegetables for cooking. Zhou Hao was with his father and brother-in-law, grooming the horses and cleaning the cowshed. Li Han scratched his head and smiled sheepishly, feeling a bit embarrassed. After washing up, he rode a four-wheeled motorcycle with Dudu and BaoBao to the stable, put on rubber boots, and helped clean the horse manure, pushing it to a nearby septic tank with a wheelbarrow, then rinsed the area.
Li Han observed that Zhou Hao was quite good at it, learning quickly. Li Han himself was grooming the horses, as Little Red Jujube had a bad temper and only Li Han and Dudu could get close to her; others didn't stand a chance. Zhou Hao, holding a brush, seemed a bit at a loss. Little White Cow, Dudu, and BaoBao were bathing, and Little Red Jujube was not easy to approach. Seeing this, his father waved and said, "Zhou Hao, come help me." "Sure thing." His father was happy to guide Zhou Hao on how to groom the horses.
In the morning, they were busy cleaning the cowshed, the stable, transporting cow and horse manure, grooming the horses, and cleaning their hooves. After finishing, they led the horses to the small pasture to graze. "Why don't you try riding? It's not that difficult." Li Han patted the horse next to him. These were all riding horses, gentle in nature. Zhou Hao was a bit interested, as such opportunities were rare. "Zhou Hao, give it a try. This horse is very gentle." His brother-in-law patted Zhou Hao's shoulder and smiled.
His brother-in-law and father rode horses every morning around the farm, which was quite pleasant. After returning, they would groom the horses, clean their hooves, and let them graze, having an extra bowl of porridge for breakfast. Not riding for a day felt strange. For the sake of riding, his brother-in-law and father had been scolded by his sister and mother many times, but they still enjoyed it. They would often help the horses with grooming and taking them for a walk.
The few horses on the small farm were trained riding horses, gentle in nature. In the past few days, his brother-in-law had been encouraging his sister to learn how to ride. His brother-in-law was quite capable; his sister, who was timid and initially afraid to touch the horses, was now being led by her husband to walk around the pasture. Seeing this, his father thought it was a good method and encouraged his mother to try riding, as staying at home was quite boring. His mother, hearing that it was good, was a bit interested and, after a few days, let her husband lead her on a ride around the pasture. Li Han was quite surprised by his brother-in-law and father's skills. Encouraged by his brother-in-law, Zhou Hao bit his lip and decided to give it a try.
Zhou Hao was still a bit nervous. Li Han gave him a few tips, suggesting he get familiar with the horse first. It went well, and soon Zhou Hao was riding the horse, with Li Han leading it to ensure it didn't spook. Dudu and BaoBao came over with the small cart, and from a distance, BaoBao waved his little hand and shouted, "It's time for breakfast." "If you have time tomorrow, we can come again. Let's go back and have breakfast. We've been busy all morning." Back at the small building, breakfast was already on the table.
Breakfast was quite homey, with rice porridge, steamed buns, and a few stir-fried dishes. The farm-grown vegetables were fresh, and a plate of salted duck eggs, with the yolks oozing oil, was placed on the table. The two little gluttons quickly put a piece in their bowls. The dishes were light and refreshing, and the duck eggs and small dried fish were delicious with the porridge and steamed buns. Wu Miaomiao and Zhou Rui said it was very tasty, and their mother was happy to see them eating more. Dudu and BaoBao each ate three duck egg yolks, which their mother and father gave them.
After breakfast, the family went to the cowshed to milk the cows. Zhou Rui, Wu Miaomiao, and Zhou Hao were all doing it for the first time, finding it quite novel. Li Han, being experienced, taught them how to milk. The milk bucket was secured between their legs, and they had to apply the right amount of force, as the cows could feel pain. Dudu and BaoBao didn't need stools. As beginners, it took them longer after breakfast. Daina arrived with a tractor to transport the milk, and the milking was still not finished.
Daina came to help, and her expertise made a big difference. Li Han, who was a semi-pro, stepped aside, and Daina's tips were very practical. Even Dudu and BaoBao came over to learn. After boiling and disinfecting the milk, they poured it into jars and loaded them onto the cart. Li Han lifted Dudu onto the cart, and Dudu and BaoBao went to help Daina feed the lambs, with Zhou Rui following out of curiosity.
Daina drove the tractor away with the milk jars, and Li Han and the others went to the warehouse. In one corner, there was a small pile of seeds that Dudu had exchanged from the space. There were watermelon, pumpkin, winter melon, and cucumber seeds, as well as lettuce and carrot seeds. The seed balls were broken, and each type was placed in a small bag. Li Han planned to plant the watermelon and pumpkin seeds today. "Zhou Hao, can you drive a tractor?" Li Han picked out the watermelon and pumpkin seeds and the carrot seeds, placing them on the tractor.
Zhou Hao shook his head, as he had never driven a tractor. "Have you driven a car? It's not much different. If you can drive a car, you'll learn in no time." His brother-in-law smiled. The watermelon and pumpkin seeds were to be planted directly, as seedling cultivation was too troublesome, and the carrot seeds could be sown directly.
Zhou Hao nodded, deciding to give it a try. Li Han drove the tractor out first, coming to an open area on the farm. He stopped the tractor. "Don't worry, give it a try. It's similar to a car. This is the gearshift, and this is the throttle."
Li Han sat next to Zhou Hao, and driving the tractor was not difficult. In no time, Zhou Hao had learned the basics. They returned to the vegetable garden, and Li Han and Zhou Hao each drove a tractor, plowing the rows. His brother-in-law helped with the repairs. The area was small, and the new equipment was not easy to maneuver, so they had to use a combination of machinery and manual labor. After a morning of hard work, the rows were finally plowed, and the watermelon and pumpkin seeds were planted using a small seeder, which was pushed along the rows. The planting was completed in no time.
After a short rest at noon, they watered the plants in the afternoon. By around two in the afternoon, the work in the vegetable garden was done, and they returned to the small building to take a shower. Dudu and BaoBao, who had gone to town to sell vegetables, and Zhou Rui, had just returned. After a brief discussion, Li Han decided to take everyone to George's farm to pick some vegetables. On the way, Zhou Rui kept praising Dudu, which made BaoBao pout in dissatisfaction. Zhou Rui seemed to be teasing BaoBao on purpose. "Han, this place is so big. Is all of this yours?"
Li Han nodded. "Yes, this whole area is mine. Actually, it's not that big. The farm across the way, Xiao Wang's farm, is much larger. It takes a long time to tour the whole place." They drove the tractor to George's farm, and Zhou Rui and Wu Miaomiao looked around in surprise. The small farm was already quite beautiful, but compared to George's farm, it was still lacking. The large lawn, the forest, the stone-built castle-like house, and the beautiful flower beds with vibrant flowers were truly stunning.
The tall pine and maple trees, the small flower circles, and the distant horse paddock, especially the space water irrigation system, made the lawn look particularly beautiful. Dudu led Aunt Zhou Rui to see the vegetables he had planted. Dudu had planted many colorful vegetable circles, each hidden in the small forest, forming cute little circles.
Dudu stayed in the small forest for a while and attracted several little squirrels, four or five of them, chirping and playing around his feet. Zhou Rui, Wu Miaomiao, and BaoBao were delighted. Li Han brewed a pot of coffee and invited everyone in. Compared to the small building on the farm, this house was larger, especially the beautiful fireplace. "This place is really nice, and the surroundings are beautiful."
Zhou Hao, holding a cup of coffee, looked around. The first-floor balcony was over thirty square meters, with most of it outside, where tables and chairs were placed.
After a cup of coffee and a short rest, they unloaded the baskets from the cart and helped Dudu pick vegetables, including lettuce, spinach, and cilantro, which were very fresh. They couldn't eat all of them, so they planned to sell the excess at the supermarket or the town square.
However, Li Han planned to take the family to the cowboy market the next day. The market sold various cowboy gear, organic vegetables and fruits, and second-hand items, similar to the markets back home. It happened once or twice a month and featured performances by country singers, making it quite lively.
He planned to take the family to the market to see the sights, pick some vegetables to sell, and enjoy the atmosphere. His parents hadn't gone out much since they arrived, and now that there was nothing much to do on the farm, it would be nice to go out and have some fun. Zhou Hao and the others, hearing this, decided to go as well. The market was not far, and a day was enough for a round trip. They planned to bring lunch and might even find some good deals, like the two nice revolvers Li Han had found.
