Chapter 8

The instructor, who had been nowhere to be found just a moment ago, suddenly appeared before us, pushing a cart of black bread. He said sternly, "Those who haven't completed the training have no lunch. You, you, and you, can eat now."
Clearly, the instructor was not someone to be fooled easily. He effortlessly called out the names of those who had completed the task. Even though he wasn't around earlier, he didn't make a single mistake.
I licked my lips, suddenly feeling extremely weak and hungry. Despite the poor appearance of the black bread on the cart, I couldn't help but swallow hard. I had no intention of rebelling, but it was obvious that someone was dissatisfied with the instructor's arrangement. The blonde foreigner beside me grinned and said, "Instructor, I was just a little short of completing the task, and I'm really hungry. I think I deserve a lunch."
The instructor, who was abnormally muscular, gave him a cold glance and then scanned the group of defiant and unruly men. His voice was colder than ice as he said, "Then I'll give you another choice. If you can block my punch, you can enjoy lunch. Anyone else interested can also try this appetizer."
The blonde foreigner bared his teeth in a grin, took a fighting stance, and from his posture and light, agile steps, it was clear he was a skilled fighter.
The instructor ignored this and asked coolly, "Are you ready?"
The blonde foreigner shouted, "I'm waiting for your move, Instructor!"
The next scene would be etched in my memory forever.
The instructor suddenly transformed into a berserker, moving at a speed beyond human limits. With a single step, he delivered a powerful punch, smashing his fist, the size of a sandpot, into the blonde foreigner's face. Everyone saw his head explode like a watermelon, red and white splattering everywhere.
With just one punch, the instructor silenced the group of devilish, muscular men. He seemed to have done something trivial as he said casually, "Lunch is served!"
At that moment, the headless blonde foreigner, who had been standing still, finally collapsed to the ground, dead on impact.
Lunch was a calm and uneventful interlude...
Soon, I realized that such fools who dared to challenge the instructor would appear every few days.
Their fates... were always the same, calm and uneventful.
Our group originally had about seventy to eighty people, excluding the ten unlucky ones who died in the morning, the unfortunate blonde foreigner, and those who were severely injured. Only eleven people had completed the morning training and were eligible for lunch.
This casualty rate made me understand why Xu Fu said the chances of surviving this place were one in ten. In just half a day, we had already lost about one-tenth of our number.
After lunch, the instructor casually adjusted the numbers on the wall and had everyone continue smashing the wall before leaving leisurely.
Facing the wall, which had been reset to the Arabic numeral "10000," I really felt like spitting blood. I understood the cruelty of this place, but I had to avenge my parents, so I had no right to complain or slack off. Supported by the strong will to avenge my parents, I began the afternoon training. Thanks to the guidance of the middle-aged man, I gradually understood some techniques for generating power, and my afternoon training results were much better than in the morning.
My best performance was reducing the wall's health by a small amount in six hits. Although my average attack strength wasn't as sharp, it was about ten times better than in the morning.
This rapid improvement was partly due to the seven stances taught by the middle-aged man, but there were probably other reasons. However, due to the brutal training, my brain was too exhausted to think deeply about it. Especially in an environment surrounded by devils, it was easy to overlook such "insignificant" progress. I was still the weakest here, so I didn't find this improvement particularly meaningful.
Despite my progress, human endurance is not infinite. After more than an hour of afternoon training, my strength began to wane, and I started to feel tired.
I glanced around and saw that these devils seemed to have no fatigue, which left me with a mix of emotions. I quietly left the wall and sat down next to the blonde foreigner, extending the golden shroud. After about sixteen or seventeen minutes, I felt my energy fully restored.
By the end of the evening training, I still hadn't earned the right to dinner. However, I noticed that three fewer people had completed the training, leaving only nine. It seemed even these monsters weren't completely immune to fatigue, but their endurance was far superior to that of ordinary people.
One question nagged at me: Some people must have arrived before me, and only one in ten could complete the training. I didn't believe the others could go hungry for days and still punch with strength. Looking at everyone, they all seemed full of energy, not like they had been hungry for days. How did they manage without the right to eat?
This question didn't puzzle me for long. After my first day of training, I returned to my room, which felt more like a prison cell. Soon, a man in a neatly pressed waiter's tuxedo knocked on my door.
He smiled professionally and asked, "Sir, would you like dinner service?"
Surprised, I asked, "What do you have to eat?"
Although I had the golden shroud, it could only restore my strength, not fill my stomach, so I was still very hungry. The waiter, as if performing a magic trick, pulled out a menu and handed it to me. I flipped through it and couldn't help but wince at the prices. The cheapest item was in the hundreds, and a single meal would cost more than my parents' combined monthly salary.
Just as I was about to sheepishly return the menu and say I didn't need dinner, I remembered the bank card Xu Fu had given me. I took it out and asked, "Can I pay by card here?" The waiter in the neatly pressed tuxedo smiled and said, "Our hotel accepts all bank cards, including UnionPay and international credit cards."
I tentatively ordered a few dishes that seemed to offer the best value for money and then swiped the card on the wireless POS machine, deducting over three thousand yuan. Even though the money was from Xu Fu, it still hurt like hell.
Fortunately, the hotel's service was quite good. The waiter returned with a meal cart less than three minutes later, delivering the food I had ordered to my room. He said in a very British manner, "Please enjoy your meal. I'll come back to collect the cart later," and then left the room, closing the heavy door with ease.
