Chapter 237: Dealing with them

What Lian Fang Zhou had not expected, was that after Lian Ze informed Madam Qiao and Lian Li, Lian Hai would ignore the persuasion of his parents and insist on going with Lian Ze to inform the villagers, saying that it would be faster if the two of them went out separately. He also said that the people closest to the Wang family should not be notified, as to not cause accidents.

Lian Ze would have never guessed that his cousin, a scholar without enough power to bind a chicken, would have such courage. He was secretly impressed and couldn’t help but feel good about him.

Afterwards, Lian Hai would gain not only a better reputation in the village, but also in the whole county.

Soon, Ah Jian brought the eleven workers, Qin Feng, Su Zi Ji, and Sun Zhang Xing. Sun Zhang Xing had also brought his bow and arrows.

When everyone saw Ah Jian, Sun Zhang Xing, and the strong, well-organized servants, their hearts became more relaxed. They whispered joyfully: “Ah Jian is here!”, “Ah Jian is finally back!”, “Nothing will go wrong with Ah Jian here!”

“Ah Jian, what arrangements do you want to make? The sounds outside are very strange, I’m afraid… I’m afraid that the Wang family yard will not be able to keep them out for long!” Zhang Li Zheng came over and spoke, frowning.

Everyone nodded, whispering agreement.

Ah Jian nodded and asked Zhang Li Zheng to pick seven or eight steady, calm, strong, and somewhat dignified people to take the lead. Among them was Uncle Li.

These people discussed the plan together.

It was a discussion, but whatever Ah Jian said, Zhang Li Zheng and the others would nodded to frequently.

Before long, Lian Ze and Lian Hai also returned and reported that everyone who could be notified had been reached.

Ah Jian nodded, signaling everyone to stand. He glanced away and said in a low voice: “Whoever is brave enough to stand up, please take two steps forward. I have other arrangements and the rest will wait here. There’s not much time, hurry up!”

Naturally, the eleven workers, Qin Feng, Su Zi Ji, and Sun Zhang Xing all stood up. Lian Ze also stood up.

Although everyone was frightened at first, they didn’t know why, but when Ah Jian had stepped forward, he seemed as strong as a mountain, as sharp as a sword, and there was something calming in his deep, dark eyes. Those young men, one by one, each felt that their hearts were full of pride in his moment and there was no fear of blood and pain!

Crying out, twenty or thirty people stood up.

A boy about the size of Lian Ze also stood up, his head raised and his chest out, with a turbulent impulse in his heart, but he was forcibly pulled back by the adults in his family.

“Okay!” Ah Jian nodded and led the volunteers to the side to give them instructions. Zhang Li Zheng gathered the rest and even some of the woman to organize the other arrangements.

Those who were bold enough to take the initiative as the main force would go to the forefront. The rest of the people would arm themselves with clubs and hoes and were assigned to strike with torches and various metal tools.

Everyone was divided into four groups, blocking the four roads near the Wang house, leaving only one road leading into the wilderness behind the village.

Beyond the wilderness was a creek and beyond that was a large expanse of fields.

The creek was nearly one foot wide but very shallow. Now that it was winter, the water level was even lower, barely enough to reach an ankle.

However, because it was winter and the last few days had been strangely cold, not to mention it was nearly midnight, the stream was freezing to the bone. Even the grass along the bank had long been frozen. Ah Jian believed this could stop the wolves.

After the arrangements were made, the crowd left in batches under the leadership of several leaders.

Ah Jian also ordered Qin Feng and Su Zi Ji to rush to the back of the village with the eleven workers, carrying hoes and sticks.

As the terrain of Dafang village was very flat, there was no way to fortify it in a hurry. There were also so many wolves that it was impossible to kill them quickly. They could not be allowed to hide somewhere in the village, it was better to drive them out.

As the screams became more and more panicked, filled with infinite despair and fear, everyone in the yard shuddered, their hair raising in terror.

Ah Jian paled slightly. “No! I’m afraid the wolves have jumped over and have entered the Wang courtyard!”

Everyone paled and Ah Jian whispered, “Go!” Lian Ze and Sun Zhang Xing hurried away.

Just out of the Zhang family yard, Lian Ze and Sun Zhang Xing’s eyes flickered, unable to find even Ah Jian’s shadow.

“This, this is—” Sun Zhang Xing opened his eyes wide and stammered at Lian Ze.

Lian Ze was awestruck for a moment, he could hardly find the words to describe his mood. He proudly said: “Brother Ah Jian has great skill! Let’s go!”

“Oh, good!” Sun Zhang Xing nodded, and they hurried to follow.

Abruptly, Ah Jian came to the edge of the Wang family courtyard. Inside, he could heard the sound of the wolves’ claws beating against the doors and windows of the house and the howling of the people and the wolves mixing together.

Outside the fence, there were also another five or six wolves walking around, stopping from time to time to scratch and growl at the wall.

In the dark of the night, the green eyes glowed with a deep gleam and when Ah Jian glanced at them, he felt cold to the bone.

But Ah Jian was not a regular human, so he wasn’t frightened by these wolves. He took an arrow and pulled the bowstring, releasing it heavily. The sharp, thick iron arrow swiftly pierced the air, centered on the wolf’s head, almost going all the way through!

With a scream of pain loud enough to make a heart break, the wolf hit by the arrow threw himself down without a breath.

Ah Jian silently said in his heart: The money spent on this bow and arrow is worth it, it is very smooth!

While the wolves were confused, turning their head around to look for him, he let loose another arrow. It flew away and shot through the thigh of one of the wolves, sending a mournful wail into the sky.

Both the wolves and the people were stunned. The cried of the Wang family stopped abruptly while the wolves in the yard turned and jumped back over the wall, joining their packmates, their eyes gleaming with the faint green light. Step by step, they approached Ah Jian.

The wounded wolf followed behind, yelping.

In the extremely faint moonlight, Ah Jian counted and eliminated the dead wolf. There was eleven in total!

Ah Jian’s heart was stunned, he didn’t dare to be careless. He quickly retreated backwards, taking an arrow and pulling back on the string. Two arrows were shot out and there were two screams as he killed one and wounded another.

However, the wolves were now irritated by Ah Jian’s attack. The biggest wolf lifted its head to the sky and let out a long howl before it’s large paws led the wolves in Ah Jian’s direction like the wind.

There were only two more arrows left in Ah Jian’s quiver.

The wolves came too fast, it was too late to shoot any arrows.

Ah Jian was agile. Taking a breath, he flashed to the side and jumped onto the low wall, quickly retreating to one side and drawing another arrow to fire.

The wolves were caught off guard and changed direction. This moment of hesitation gave Ah Jian enough time to react. Another wolf fell to the ground and died. The pack was enraged now and growled at Ah Jian, barring their teeth.

Suddenly, a thought appeared in Ah Jian’s heart: If only he had his sword!

A long sword? Did he used to have a long sword?
