Chapter 243: The root of the disaster

Ah Jian suddenly had a thought and hurriedly said: “Let’s go to Wang Qi Lang’s house now. I originally wanted to ask, but forgot!”

Lian Fang Zhou was taken aback, feeling that Ah Jian’s reaction seemed over the top. She hurried behind him and asked: “Did you think of something?”

Ah Jian nodded: “You’ll know when we arrive at Wang Qi Lang’s house!”

Lian Fang Zhou let out an ‘en’ and accepted without any further questioning.

The two arrived at Wang Qi Lang’s house and the family welcomed them inside with great enthusiasm, unable to help giving a lot of words of gratitude.

The window paper of the house was broken and there were several large scratches at the door. Just looking at the marks left by the wolves made their legs weak.

They could barely think of the situation last night and couldn’t imagine what would have happened if those sharp claws had landed on their bodies.

After a long period of casual chatting, Ah Jian came to the point. “Did you do something? Why did the wolves target your house?”

As soon as Ah Jian’s words fell, the Wang family looked at each other.

Each thought hard for a moment but then shook their heads.

Distressed, Wang Qi Lang said: “Speaking of this, we also find it very strange! What kind of evil was in this wolf pack, why was it directed at our house?”

As he spoke, he looked at Ah Jian with some eagerness and asked quickly: “Brother Ah Jian, help us discover the truth of this matter! I’m not afraid of showing you a joke! Many people have come to ask this and in some cases, their words were… really not good!”

Lian Fang Zhou and Ah Jian glanced at each other lightly, thinking that this was natural. All of the wolves had targeted the Wang house, which was at the center of the village. If there was no special reason, who would believe it? If they couldn’t find the reason for themselves, it would be considered a curse or perhaps a ‘retribution’.

With this in mind, it would be strange for people to say something nice!

Ah Jian said: “Think about it again, there must be a reason. Did you encounter anything special at this time? Did you do anything different from usual?”

The Wang family bowed their heads, thinking carefully, but even after racking their brains for a long time, they could only shake their heads with wry smiles: There really was nothing!

“We are just honest farmers, what could we have done? This is just after New Year, we haven’t gone to the fields. There was no farm work before, and nothing has happened!” Wang Qi Lang smiled bitterly.

Hearing this, Ah Jian also felt embarrassed.

He thought for a while and said: “Keep thinking about it, we will go back first. When you think of something, then tell me! I do not think the wolves would come for no reason.”

Wang Qi Lang also felt that this matter was strange, so they happily nodded and agreed.

As Lian Fang Zhou and Ah Jian were about to leave, a small furry head emerged from a straw-filled basket in the corner, letting out tiny whimpers.

Seeing Lian Fang Zhou look over, Wang Qi Lang smiled and said: “This is a puppy we picked up on the side of the road two days ago—”

Before he finished speaking, Lian Fang Zhou’s expression changed slightly and she pointed at the furry gray puppy, saying in surprise: “Ah Jian, look! Doesn’t it look like a wolf cub?”

“Wolf!?” Wang Qi Lang’s family was stunned.

Ah Jian’s heart froze and he took a few steps over, grabbing the puppy and opening it’s mouth. His eyes narrowed and he smiled wryly, sighing: “I must say, you guys are so courageous! What kind of puppy is really a wolf cub? No wonder the wolves besieged your home!”

Ah Jian remembered clearly that there was indeed a lactating female wolf in the pack. He hadn’t thought to bring it up to Wang Qi Lang, but fortunately Lian Fang Zhou spotted it!

The faces of Wang Qi Lang’s family changed color as they exclaimed and took two steps back, staring at the whining puppy— little wolf pup, with a layer of cold sweat on their foreheads.

“It turned out to be because of this!” Wang Qi Lang murmured.

Ah Jian shook the wolf pup, who was trying to twist its limbs, and said to Wang Qi Lang: “What are you planning to do with this wolf cub?”

Wang Qi Lang backed away in a hurry, shaking his hands in a panic: “We don’t want it, we don’t want it! Brother Ah Jian, you can handle it however you want or just dispose of it!”

Wang Qi Lang’s wife also hurried to add: “Yes, help take it away! Take a look at my legs and hair, they’re so limp! Alas, what a mistake! If I knew it was a wolf pup, I would have thrown it out a long time ago!”

Ah Jian smiled and said: “In that case, I will take it away!”

“Take it!” Everyone in the Wang family could not be more relieved.

Ah Jian smiled and left with Lian Fang Zhou.

Lian Fang Zhou was not scare and was watching it curiously. The wolf pup was very furry with a simple head and silly expression. His eyes were very bright and clear, looking really cute.

However, the wolf howling last night had not been cute at all!

“What are you going to do with it?” Lian Fang Zhou couldn’t help but ask.

“What do you mean?” Ah Jian smiled, giving the small body a squeeze. The little wolf pup immediately twisted his furry, soft body and whimpered several times in protest, his watery eyes looking aggrieved at Ah Jian.

So cute! Lian Fang Zhou couldn’t resist and reached out to touch it.

The feeling was also very good!

Oh, but would it be killed?

Thinking of this, Lian Fang Zhou felt distressed for a while.

Back home, Lian Fang Qing, Lian Che, Lian Ze, and Third Aunt had just gotten up and had no idea about what had happened at the village entrance.

Seeing the little wolf pup in Ah Jian’s hands, several pairs of eyes lit up.

Lian Fang Qing exclaimed ‘oh’ and jumped over in surprise and joy, reaching out her hand to rub the wolf pup’s head cautiously. Joyfully, she said: “What a fun puppy! Elder sister, I will take care of it in the future, okay!”

Lian Fang Zhou was taken aback.

Lian Che couldn’t help but also reach out and pat it, smiling: “Really! So cute! Sister, Brother Ah Jian, were did you get it? Sister, let me take care of it with Qing’er!”

Third Aunt curled her lips: “What’s the use of such a small thing? Why did you bring this home? Ah, and bringing it back on such a cold day? You should wait until the weather is warmer and buy another one!”

Only Lian Ze looked the wolf cub over and let out a hiss, saying with doubt: “Sister, Brother Ah Jian, why do I think this puppy looks a little strange?”

Lian Fang Qing cleared her throat and said quickly: “Because it is more cute and pitiful than ordinary puppies!” Of course, her own puppies were the best.

Lian Che nodded and hummed ‘um’ in agreement.

Lian Fang Zhou couldn’t help laugh or cry but her heart was moved. She felt a little eager to try. She looked over at Ah Jian with bright eyes and asked silently: Is this okay?

TN: I’d love to blame the Wang family but tbh, I’d take home any puppy I found too… Also, we’re going to pretend that this was the only puppy and that if there were any other wolf cubs, they are safe and warm with one or two pack members who stayed behind. Don’t ruin this for me! T-T
