Chapter 419: Don’t worry
5 min read1,303 words
The shop on Sifang Street had not opened yet and only Lian Fang Zhou and Ah Jian had the keys.
In the carriage, Lian Fang Zhou’s head felt even more heavy. Her eyes were lightly closed and she leaned into his arms, laughing at herself. “I’m so useless! I only drank a few glasses of wine but I’m already this drunk!”
And she really was only drunk, not anything else. Lian Fang Zhou was sure.
Ah Jian’s eyes never left her face. When he heard her words, he pursed his lips and rubbed her head with his big hand, pressing it against his chest. “If you are drunk, then rest! Don’t talk too much. We are heading to Sifang Street, we can rest there.”
Lian Fang Zhou slapped her forehead with an ‘ah’ and smiled. “Thank you for thinking about this, I forgot this house. I’ve been screaming in my heart about the bumpy road home!” As she spoke, she pouted cutely. Her lips were very red and her dazed eyes were charming and naïve, making her look especially beautiful.
Ah Jian smiled softly and rubbed her head again: “Go to sleep!”
The woman in his arms hummed vaguely and then really fell asleep. She didn’t even wake up when Ah Jian carried her into the yard and put her on the couch.
It wasn’t until she felt a chill on her face, as if being pressed with cold water, that she woke up with an shout.
Opening her eyes, she saw Ah Jian wiping her cheeks and forehead with a handkerchief soaked in well water. “Not even saying hello first, you scared me to death!”
Ah Jian reached down and held her hand. While wiping her face, he asked: “How do you feel? Are you more comfortable?”
The fright combined with the cold water had refreshed her mind and chased away the feeling of drowsiness. She rubbed her temple with a smile: “It’s much better! Oh, I didn’t expect my alcohol tolerance to be so bad!”
Frowning, Ah Jian said: “I know that not even I am good enough to drink so much!”
“I didn’t have that much!” Lian Fang Zhou complained. Then she stopped and thought about it, feeling that something was wrong. She raised her eyebrows: “Strange, it seems that I’m the only one that got drunk. Why were they not affected? But I’ve never heard of a drug that can make you drunk.”
“There are other ways.” Ah Jian said thoughtfully. “If you mix several different wines to a certain proportion, it can make people get drunk faster. And you just accepted their toasts without question!”
Lian Fang Zhou widened her eyes, stunned. Bitterly, she said: “I knew they weren’t good people, I just didn’t expect them to be so cunning!”
Ah Jian snorted coldly: “How dare you say that? Do you know what was happening when I went in?”
Ah Jian had always been so gentle with her. This type of cold silence had never happened between them before.
Feeling a chill in her heart, Lian Fang Zhou felt a little anxious. Smiling nervously, she said: “Did something happen? It seemed… no, didn’t you come in later? Even if you hadn’t broken in, I was about to leave.”
“Oh? You still remembered to leave? Why didn’t I see you moving?” Ah Jian scoffed. Every time he thought about the scene in the private room, it was like fuel on the fire of his irritation.
If it wasn’t for the fact that she was so drunk it was inconvenient for people to see her, he would have taught those two shameless men a good lesson!
Especially the one with the surname Wang who had a very short memory!
He dared to touch his woman!
Lian Fang Zhou was stunned and stared at Ah Jian with wide eyes in disbelief. He raised his eyebrows and said: “Dare to think I’m lying to you?”
“No!” Lian Fang Zhou said immediately. She had no doubts that he was lying, she was just so angry she couldn’t believe it!
Listening to what Ah Jian described, the more she thought about it, the more chilled she felt. She couldn’t help slapping the couch in a fury: “How dare they! There is no reason for this! That bastard is not a good person! I could tell at first glance, but I thought he was at least decent some of the time! They’re nothing but bad water!”
Ah Jian didn’t say anything, only giving her a look that said ‘oh, so now you know?’ as he continued to wipe her face and forehead with the handkerchief.
Hearing her complain angrily, most of the jealousy and sourness in Ah Jian’s heart disappeared. Suddenly, he smiled and said: “Okay, aren’t you tired? Just rest well.”
“You… you aren’t angry with me?” Lian Fang Zhou asked quietly, looking at Ah Jian.
Ah Jian was taken aback.
How could she ask that? How could he be angry with her, she didn’t do anything… but he was angry, so what could he be angry about? Angry at her— behavior?
What a mess!
Ah Jian laughed drily and sighed: “How could I be mad at you? You just shouldn’t be so careless!”
His words warmed Lian Fang Zhou’s heart. Hooking her lips, she smiled and said: “It was because you said ‘with me here, don’t be afraid’! So I didn’t think too much about it. Anyways, you did save me.”
The hand wiping her face froze and the last traces of gloom on Ah Jian’s brow immediately disappeared. It was like the sunshine of spring was blooming!
Her words were like the warmest breeze in his heart, like a gentle feather, warm, itchy, and crisp. It was like all of his pores had opened, as comfortable as drinking iced sour plum soup in the height of summer.
He hummed. “Well, with me here, naturally I won’t let you have an accident.” The wiping motion of his hand became even more gentle as he lowered his head and rubbed his chin over her smooth forehead. Smiling softly, he said: “I said I would protect you, so I will protect you. But when I am not here, you have to be more careful.”
“Naturally.” Lian Fang Zhou raised her eyes and smiled at him. In her heart, she secretly muttered: This man, he no longer regards himself as an outsider! Plus, he’s got a temper and it wasn’t small. She was really a bit afraid of him when he got angry…
Lian Fang Zhou, who had always been full of confidence that she could handle Ah Jian, suddenly felt a little uncertain in her heart.
Ah Jian watched the expressions flittering across her face. The dazed, unfocused look had almost disappeared and she should have sobered up. “You rest here for a while, I’ll come get you when it’s time to leave.”
Originally, she wanted to ask him where he was going but listening to his firm tone, she thought that he must have something he needed to do. He didn’t say what it was, so she didn’t ask. She nodded and smiled, “Alright.”
After he left, Lian Fang Zhou was so tired that she fell asleep without realizing it.
When she woke up, Ah Jian was sitting beside the couch again. He smiled, “Awake?”
Lian Fang Zhou glanced at the slanting shadow of the sun on the ground and smiled. “Yes. Judging by the time, we should go back!”
He chucked, “If you are still tired, you can rest for a while. What are you afraid of? Go back after it gets dark.”
Though her eyes lit up, her cheeks also became hot and Lian Fang Zhou gave him an angry look: “I don’t want to, let’s go now!”
