It's not that Mod was pretending to be foolish.
Mainly, the timing of Sunny's question was too strange.
Seeing Mod's puzzled expression, Sunny added, "Arthur's hand."
"Oh, that..."
Mod looked at Sunny strangely.
After a pause, he put down the mop and bucket and slowly reenacted the dodging motion.
After finishing the action, he looked at Sunny and said uncertainly, "Like this?"
Sunny was silent.
A few seconds later, a sound of something falling came from inside the counter.
Mod subconsciously looked under the counter and his eyelids twitched when he saw a small part of a gun handle protruding from the edge.
Sunny timely said, "It's just the gun that fell accidentally, don't worry about it."
After saying that, she bent down to pick up the gun and casually placed it on the counter.
"You didn't remember the action I just demonstrated, could you please show it again?"
"..."
Mod glanced at the flintlock gun lying on the counter, the muzzle inadvertently pointing at him.
He pondered for a moment and, of course, wouldn't demonstrate that meaningless action again.
Although he didn't understand Sunny's motivation, he couldn't just brush it off anymore.
"I didn't use any special method; I just had some precautions at the time, so I could dodge in time. Besides, it's not a big deal, right?"
Hearing this, Sunny quietly looked at Mod.
After a while, she nodded and said calmly, "Indeed, it's not a big deal. You can continue your work."
"..."
Mod was speechless and could only silently label Sunny as peculiar.
Then, he put the mop and bucket in the storage room.
When he returned to the shop, Sunny was still sitting in the same spot.
The flintlock gun that had been lying on the counter was gone, replaced by a piece of paper and a pencil.
Mod's gaze swept over the paper and pencil, and he asked, "Can I go back to my room now?"
Sunny nodded, pulled out the paper from under the pencil, and gestured for Mod to take it.
Mod understood, walked to the counter, and took the paper Sunny handed him.
There were a few lines of writing on it.
A quick glance revealed some precautions.
So few contents, yet she wrote them down specifically?
Mod was puzzled.
Putting away the paper, Mod's peripheral vision caught the pencil, and he had a thought.
"Sunny, can I take this pencil back to my room?"
"Sure, go ahead."
"Thanks."
Mod took the pencil and turned to leave.
Sunny watched Mod leave, then took out a notebook and a newspaper from a drawer under the counter.
She placed both items on the counter.
The newspaper was set aside, and the notebook was opened halfway.
The page she flipped to had some information with names included.
Sunny glanced at it and then flipped the page again.
This page also had writing, and in the upper part, Kidd's name was clearly visible.
Without looking further, Sunny flipped a few more pages until she finally found a completely blank one.
Then, she took out a pencil from the drawer, glanced at the newspaper content, and started writing in the notebook.
A few minutes later, Sunny stopped writing.
The originally blank page was now half-filled.
At the bottom of the text was Mod's full name, followed by a big question mark.
After one last look at Mod's name, Sunny closed the notebook and put it and the pencil deep into the drawer.
"I should talk to Sol."
Sunny muttered to herself.
......
Mod returned to the room where he had woken up.
Being accepted so easily was quite surprising to Mod.
However, Mod could see that Sol, the boss, was very casual about such matters.
Perhaps he really just brought Mod back to be future labor for the shop.
"Since I'm here, I might as well settle in."
Mod muttered to himself, locked the door, and then sat on the dusty chair, examining the content on the paper.
[Do not go out, whether in the day or at night. Stay inside the house.]
[Do not touch the items on the shelves.]
[Do not enter the basement.]
[There are ingredients in the kitchen fridge.]
[Other matters will be discussed tomorrow.]
Mod read the content on the paper with mixed feelings.
For these few things, couldn't she just tell me verbally?
Mod shook his head, unable to understand Sunny's style, and threw the paper on the equally dusty table, then picked up the pencil he had brought with him.
[Hunter's Notebook]
With a thought, the black notebook appeared out of nowhere.
He casually flipped to a blank page, closed his eyes, and tried hard to recall the memories of the Pirate King.
To consolidate and organize these memories, he planned to write them down slowly, review them, and then write them a few more times.
The quill pen that came with the Hunter's Notebook, though inkless, was the only one that could leave permanent marks in the notebook.
As for other pens,
like the pencil in Mod's hand,
he could use it to write and draw on any page in the Hunter's Notebook.
But once the notebook was closed, the words and drawings on the pages would turn into graphite dust and fall to the ground.
This way, Mod could freely use this feature to consolidate his memories.
After all, the information derived from these memories could potentially become his nourishment in the future.
"The most vivid memories are still of the Straw Hat Pirates, huh..."
"Considering they are the main characters, more information is revealed about them."
"But their truly powerful period is two years after the story begins."
"Too far away..."
"Judging by Kidd's current age, there are still a few years before the story starts, right?"
"Besides, there are more suitable targets, no need to focus on them."
"Right, the Sea King Pirates, I wonder if the Hunter's Notebook can work on the Fishmen and Giants!"
"If it works, it would be unimaginable."
"Speaking of which, the Sea King Pirates are in the East Sea, while we are in the West Sea. Can we reach the East Sea by sailing?"
"I remember Kidd is from the South Sea. Since he can come to the West Sea, going from the West Sea to the East Sea shouldn't be a problem."
"Thinking about these things now seems meaningless."
Mod organized his memories while writing and drawing on the page.
Although he knew nothing about navigation, it didn't stop him from thinking broadly.
Immersed in this, time passed by.
......
In Sol's room.
Several lit candles were placed on the windowsill, bedside, and table, providing ample light for the room.
Despite the availability of more convenient electric lights, Sol chose not to use them.
This was one of the things Sunny couldn't understand.
"You came to see me specifically to tell me that Mod is abnormal?"
Sol sat cross-legged on a large double bed, holding a gilded, slender pipe in his right hand.
The smoke was swirling, slightly pungent.
His gaze, through the smoke, fell on Sunny with a scrutinizing look.
"But you know, I've never cared about these things."
"Sol, Mod is different from the others before."
"How is he different?"
"..."
Sunny couldn't explain it clearly for a moment.
Sol gently rubbed the pipe.
"You're right, he is indeed different."
