Chapter 44 - It Was Actually Him

3 min read782 words

After Ji Weihong died twelve years ago, lawyers had taken out the will that he had made a long time ago. It indicated that all of his shares in the Ji Corporation were going to his wife Qiu Yue. So the largest shareholder of Ji Corporation right now was Qiu Yue, followed by Ji Naitang’s second uncle Ji Weilou and the other shareholders on the board.

It could be said that the biggest beneficiary of the car accident was Qiu Yue. But they said that Qiu Yue didn’t even dare to speak loudly. Her character was very traditional and subservient to her husband. She didn’t seem like someone with that sort of ambitions.

Could it be Ji Weilou then? But if it was Ji Weilou, why didn’t he find a way to take all the shares for himself in so many years? Or was it really just an accident?

Cen Muqi’s father’s car accident was also suspicious. But all of the clues pointed to an accident, so it was ultimately declared an accident.

“How’s the relationship between Ji Naitang and his mom?”

“Ordinary. Not just with his mom, but his relationship with his grandfather is even more distant. They don’t seem to get along over the years.”

Assistant Liu handed the information in his hands to Cen Muqi. Cen Muqi looked through a few pages and paused when he saw a few photos.

Assistant Liu saw him staring at the photos and explained, “I cut these photos out of a newspaper, so they’re not very clear. The first one is Ji Moyu before he died. Because his death was rather miserable, they didn’t publicize it. The last photo is Ji Naitang at the time.”

Cen Muqi looked at Ji Naitang’s photo for a long time before saying, “It was actually him.”

Assistant Liu didn’t understand. He looked puzzled at Cen Muqi. Cen Muqi seemed to be remembering something. “The difference is quite big compared to when he was a child.”

“It’s been twelve years after all. There will be a difference in appearance.”

“I meant his character.”

“Character?” Assistant Liu was somewhat surprised. “You knew him twelve years ago, CEO Cen?”

“It shouldn’t count as knowing him.” Cen Muqi put the photo down and continued looking at the information. “I saw him once. I remember only because he was a ten-year-old child. His eyes were dark and gloomy. The nurse said that he wanted to die several times.”

“He wanted to die? Was it because of the trauma? After all, he saw his brother being killed and then experienced his dad’s car accident.”

“Maybe.”

Cen Muqi couldn’t say how he felt. When he met Ji Naitang in the hospital’s garden, he actually didn’t know Ji Naitang’s identity. He had just been curious why a child would be so lifeless, so he had asked a nurse about it.

But Cen Muqi’s father had just died and his mother was depressed because of grief. Fortunately, she was saved when she committed suicide. Otherwise, the consequences would be unimaginable. So, he hadn’t had time or energy to pay attention to Ji Naitang. He forgot about him over time.

“Zhou Qiang fled. He still isn’t caught. Find someone to keep an eye on news about him. Report to me if there’s any news.”

“Yes.” Assistant Liu turned to leave. But he thought of something and hesitated before he said, “CEO Cen, I don’t know if it’s related to these things. But……”

“Say it.”

“Ji Naitang’s little uncle turned crazy twelve years ago.”

Twelve years ago again. So many things happened twelve years ago. Sometimes, if there were so many coincidences, there must be a problem. But what was the key to these problems?

“Did he turn crazy before or after the kidnapping?”

“After. After Ji Weihong had the accident, Ji Naitang was sent to the hospital. When he woke up, he revealed the location where he was abducted to. The police went there and found Ji Moyu’s body. His little uncle turned crazy after seeing the body. He’s been living in a mental hospital for all these years.”

Cen Muqi was silent for a moment before nodding. Assistant Liu left the CEO’s office. He didn’t know why CEO Cen wanted to investigate the Ji family’s matters twelve years ago. He wondered if CEO Cen had fallen in love with Ji Naitang. Was that why he wanted to help him find that kidnapper Zhou Qiang?

It seemed that he had to be more careful when speaking to not offend Ji Naitang.

Just as Assistant Liu was thinking about how to get along with Ji Naitang, he heard shouts that there was a fight in the small office.
