I absolutely couldn’t believe it.
I didn’t think the door would open, even if I called his name. However, Zahid obliterated the doubt with his prompt appearance.
He looked relaxed as always.
His gaze towards me drifted slightly downwards. More specifically, he stared at my wrist held by the pope. Zahid chuckled incredulously as he asked.
“Since when was coveting another man’s wife your hobby, Your Holiness?”
The pope replied with a smile.
“Why don’t you show proper manners first, Duke Carnor?”
“How wonderful. You’re still thinking of receiving a greeting from me.”
Zahid said this with a smile in his eyes.
“I should have destroyed the entire Vatican, just so I could stop you from wagging that tongue.”
The words directed to the pope were unimaginably harsh. However, no one paid any mind to it.
I noticed Zahid’s flickering pupils. He seemed different from usual. His usually calm and clear gaze was now simmering wildly. The pope smiled as he pointed at his eyes.
“You broke the seal.”
Magic would be needed to break down the door blocked with holy powers. In order to save me, he released the seal he’d had his whole life. Zahid angrily snapped back.
“Wasn’t that what you wanted?”
“That there would be a woman you’d save, even despite the accumulating misery. I’m surprised.”
“For the second time, this is my wife, Your Holiness.”
Zahid spat.
“Shut up and let go of that hand right now.”
The pope’s expression was slightly taken aback.
“Really… I’ve never seen anyone as rude as you. Had you not been a wizard, I would have had your head chopped off and hung on the Vatican’s square.”
He clasped me tighter and added pitifully.
“Your face is beautiful, so putting it on display would be perfect.”
My eyes were dazed. The steeliness in the conversation was enough to make my head spin. I tried to pull myself back up, but the pope held tight me tightly with no thoughts of letting go. The corners of Zahid’s lips twisted. Anger wasn’t the only reason behind his behavior.
Right now, Zahid…
Just as I was about to finish the thought, the pope released my wrist.
“I’ll let go. The priests will get queasy if the Vatican gets anymore damaged.”
He scanned over me with one final glance.
“There are things to think about as well…”
With that, a certain power lifted me into the air. White light set me down in front of Zahid, where he then gripped my hands. The near crushing strength surprised me. The pope stared at us both before smiling.
“However, you will need to pay the price for today’s situation, Duke.”
A clear voice rang through the demolished halls. However, Zahid just completely ignored the pope’s words and turned away. He marched away from the halls at a fast pace, and I walked as if I was being dragged by Zahid. My eyes widened at the view that unfolded before me.
I couldn’t believe it.
The elegantly artistic buildings of the Vatican were now rubble.
Broken stone rolled around the floor, and smoke rose through everything. The priests and paladins were running all over the place, clueless over what to do.
I crossed the square while holding his hand, and stumbled over the stones.
Zahid looked back at me. I couldn’t say anything as I met his eyes. The deep purple seems like it could pierce through the back of my head.
“…”
He frowned, before scooping me up in a princess carry. My dress fluttered in the movement. As we left the sacred area, shopping malls appeared before us.
Going to the first inn he spotted, Zahid kicked in the door with a crash. The innkeeper immediately ran out to see the customer. At the sight of Zahid, the middle aged man’s eyes widened in surprise.
“Clear everyone out of here, and keep them out from now on.”
The beautiful man’s orders were outrageous. Still the innkeeper had a dreamy expression as he belatedly checked the purses’s contents. The orders were promptly obeyed without a word, and the room upstairs was immediately cleared out..
Zahid moved straight past the innkeeper, taking the stairs up three to four steps at a time. As soon as he entered the room, he threw me onto the bed.
“…!”
With no time to compose myself, Zahid collapsed on top of me.
My eyes widened as I embraced him. His body lightly trembled, as he gripped the bed sheets, which strained and wrinkled. His hot and irregular breaths flowed out over me.
“Ha…“
He slowly took in a deep breath, exhaling as he hugged me, As the blazing heat emitted from him, he whispered.
“Ertha.”
His burning gaze looked straight at me.
“If you don’t want to be a widow, you’ll have to help me…”
Zahid sealed his magic long ago. It had since been suppressed without any malignancy. However, using even this tiny bit of magic could reduce him to such a state.
His eyes seemed about to burst. It was clear that they were losing focus, his sanity barely held.
My heart throbbed painfully. I had to quickly remove the malignance before he could become corrupted.
But there was one problem. I don’t know how to perform the purification.
In the original work, the purifier was only described to be a tool and a part of the setting to further drive the conflict between the characters. Ertha had died in the earlier parts of the arc, so there was no need to detail the process.
Perhaps there was a part where the purification method was explained. However, I had skipped every violent scene, so it was likely that I had missed it.
I only knew two things:
The purifier and wizard will recognize each other once they come into contact.
The wizard who eats the purifier will be able to forever avoid mental breakdowns.
I had planned to act natural when Zahid wanted to be purified, as if I had always known how to perform it.
But it never crossed my thought that he would ask me to do it like this. It was too sudden.
Zahid’s eyes narrowed when I remained frozen. A moment later, with a smile in his eyes, his lips parted.
“What are you doing, Ertha?”
Lowering his face, he closed the distance between our lips.
“Come, kiss me.”
“…!”
Kiss…
Looking at my trembling gaze, Zahid laughed. He quickly removed the distance between us and pecked me on the lips.
“Quickly now, your husband is dying.”
I quickly gathered my heart that was about to faint and started to think carefully.
Purify him with a kiss or just leave it be and be devoured.
After carefully thinking over it, I still couldn’t arrive at a conclusion. I took a deep breath.
Clasping his face with both hands, I recklessly kissed him. My lips could feel a slight vibration. Zahid was laughing.
He gently stroked my waist, and my body sunk deeper into the bed as his other hand brushed my forehead. His purple eyes filling my vision were dangerously beautiful.
Unable to face him, I squeezed my eyes shut as I let him do as he pleased..
Unlike his usual upright act, Zahid and his kisses grew rougher. He clung to me harder as the kisses became fiercer.
I struggled to keep up with him and my breathing grew ragged. Our lips met multiple times, and it felt like I was almost devoured by him with every deep kiss. After kissing for a long while, Zahid released me.
I gasped for air with a flushed face. Unlike my exhausted and near lifeless self, Zahid seemed refreshed and happy. His eyes were completely subdued, now burning in a different way. He slowly closed them, before opening them once more.
“I could never understand those who took opium…”
He mumbled to himself as his long fingers brushed my lips.
“Is this how it feels?”
Wordlessly, I bit his finger with all of my might, enough to leave a mark. It was just my own way of conveying my displeasure, but for some reason, he looked like he enjoyed it.
Licking my lips, Zahid asked,
“You didn’t know about it, did you?”
My soul was wiped out after kissing him, so I replied to him quietly.
“About what…?”
“How to purify.”
He noticed my lack of knowledge as soon as I hesitated.
Throwing away my pride, I asked a question.
“Tell me the truth. Is kissing really the only way to purify?”
“You tell me.”
“No, I’m the one asking here.”
“I can’t believe this kind of pillow talk.”
However, perhaps due to his good mood, Zahid answered coolly.
“The basis of purification is contact. The deeper the contact, the better, especially if the situation is dire…”
He was referring to sexual intercourse. I swallowed hard, waiting for his explanation.
Zahid paused deliberately, before grinning.
“We can replace it with blood.”
