Chapter 3

Dream, a distant and elusive word. Perhaps from the time when we were still naive, teachers would start asking about our dreams. Everyone in their childhood would have a dream, to be a scientist, a doctor, a teacher, or a police officer, and so on.

As we grow up, we realize that dreams are beautiful fantasies, and in this restless and realistic world, dreams are like a gentle breeze in the heart, gradually fading away with time, forgetting the beauty of our initial dreams.

Some people may forget, while others still foolishly guard their dreams and strive for them.

In the past few days, Lin Xiao has been dreaming about blue skies and black soil every night, the same dream, the same scene, the same view of the world breaking into pieces and disappearing.

He consulted a psychologist at the hospital, but neither conversation nor hypnosis had any effect. The doctor, at a loss, suggested that he might be tired and reminded him of his childhood dreams, advising him to rest well and not let work exhaust him.

As the days passed, Lin Xiao found himself becoming stronger, full of energy every day, with no adverse reactions. The somewhat absent-minded Lin Xiao didn't care much, as long as it didn't harm him, he ignored it.

"Xiao Lin, have you been using some kind of cosmetics or sunscreen lately? Your skin is so fair and rosy, not a single large pore can be seen. If so, recommend it to me, my husband says I'm getting old and wants to find a young girl," Wu Zuoli, with her plump and shapely legs, walked over to Lin Xiao's desk and bent down to say. Her figure was full yet not a bit flabby.

"Zuoli, don't joke around. How could that be? You know my character, I wouldn't like cosmetics or anything like that," Lin Xiao, seeing Wu Zuoli's approach, her naturally beautiful face, and her curvaceous figure, especially her slender waist, inadvertently saw the glimpse of her cleavage when she bent down. He felt a sudden warmth in his body, though he wasn't a virgin, the temptation was still significant. He struggled to look away and replied.

"Hehehe, Xiao Lin, don't be shy, I'm just curious!" Seeing Lin Xiao's unnatural expression due to her accidental exposure, she straightened up without showing any signs and continued to tease him.

"Zuoli, please spare me. I really don't know why. I wanted to tan to a bronze color, but now I look like a pale-faced man, it's so tragic," Lin Xiao said, touching his face.

"Hey, you're making me jealous. Okay, I won't talk to you anymore, it hurts my self-esteem. I'll go," Wu Zuoli, seeing that further questioning would yield the same result, returned to her desk.

'Phew~ Finally gone. If she kept asking, it would be hard to explain. I don't even know what's happening. Could it be like in those novels on起点 (Qidian), where someone has a special encounter and becomes incredibly powerful, stomping on the rich second generation and punching the officials' children?' Lin Xiao, seeing Wu Zuoli leave, propped his head up and daydreamed.

'Forget it, everything will fall into place. Why think so much?' Lin Xiao shook his head and muttered to himself.

"Lin Xiao, be careful!" a colleague shouted from the side.

He turned to see a flower pot flying over from a distance. It was too late to dodge, and he instinctively swung his fist.

'Peng' 'Pa' The sound of his fist hitting the flower pot and the pot hitting the ground broke the calm atmosphere of the office.

"Lin Xiao, are you okay? I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. My foot slipped on a file someone threw on the ground, and the flower pot flew out. Are you hurt?" A young woman, about 25 years old, ran over quickly and asked anxiously.

"I'm fine, be more careful next time," Lin Xiao, seeing that his hand was only slightly scratched, replied.

"You say you're fine, but you're bleeding. It's all my fault. Wait a moment, I'll get some red medicine and bandages," Luo Qingya, seeing Lin Xiao's hand, said urgently.

Lin Xiao looked up at Luo Qingya, a standard beauty with long black hair and a delicate, lovely oval face. Her willow-leaf eyebrows framed a pair of exquisite, charming eyes, long eyelashes, a high nose, and a cherry mouth. Her concern made him feel an impulse to embrace her.

"Wait two minutes, I'll be right back." Luo Qingya turned and went to get the medicine.

"Wow, Lin Xiao, when did you become so quick? You reacted so fast, and the flower pot was only a few centimeters away from you!" a colleague said, slowly gathering around.

"Hehe, I didn't think much at the time, I just instinctively swung my fist," Lin Xiao replied.

"Move, move." Luo Qingya returned with the medicine, and after a few minutes of busy work, she applied the medicine and put on the bandages.

"Here, this is my phone number. Go to the hospital to check if there are any other injuries, and give me your number. I'll treat you to a meal in a couple of days as an apology." Luo Qingya, seeing that Lin Xiao was almost done, gave him a business card and handed him her phone, carefully examining him. She noticed that although Lin Xiao wasn't a handsome man, he was still quite good-looking.

Since someone was treating him to a meal and it was a beautiful woman, Lin Xiao, thinking of a free meal, gave his number to Luo Qingya. She turned and left after receiving the number.

"Wow, Luo Assistant is treating you to a meal, Lin Xiao, you're so lucky. Why wasn't I the one hit by the flower pot!" a colleague, Xiao Ye, teased. To add, Luo Qingya was the General Manager's assistant.

In the midst of the commotion, time passed unnoticed. Back at home, Lin Xiao, with nothing to do, started playing on his computer.

A webpage popped up: Do you still have a dream? Do you remember your childhood dream? Do you still have the motivation and desire to pursue your dream?

Lin Xiao grew up in an orphanage and left at the age of 15, supporting himself through part-time work while completing high school and university. Poor children grow up quickly, and after many years of working in society, Lin Xiao had almost forgotten his childhood dreams.

Seeing the webpage, he clicked the X to close it but fell into deep thought. What is my dream? Heh, my childhood dream was to have a warm home, a few acres of land, to work from dawn to dusk, to have a beautiful and gentle wife, and to live a carefree life.

The gap between reality and dreams gradually widened, and the dream in his heart was slowly devoured by reality. Now, when he thinks about it, it's probably just a memory.

He remembered that his favorite was the Tang Dynasty poet Wang Wei's "Peach Blossom Spring," and he fantasized about having a haven for the soul in this restless world, a place where one could regain clarity for a moment.
