Chapter 3

This man was in his thirties, dressed in a black suit, and had a briefcase slung over his right shoulder.

It was the same person who had driven the bus when Xu Mo first got on.

There must be something wrong! Could this bus be about to have an accident? He remembered that the first time the bus came, he was the only one who got on, while the others stood still. Could everything have just been his hallucination? The driver at that time was this person, suggesting that the accident would only happen after this person got on the bus?

Without hesitation, Xu Mo jumped up from his seat and rushed towards the exit, shouting, "Open the door, open the door, I want to get off."

The doors had already closed, and the bus had started moving again. The driver, seeing this, said extremely displeased, "What were you doing just now?"

But he didn't open the door and continued driving forward.

Xu Mo was in a panic. He lifted his hand, opened the cover of the 'emergency door valve,' grabbed the valve, and twisted it, pulling the door open and jumping off the bus.

The driver was so angry that he started cursing, but Xu Mo paid no attention. After jumping off, he walked away until he was far enough to turn around and watch.

The driver had already closed the rear door and started the bus again, driving forward. It moved steadily, showing no signs of an accident.

Xu Mo couldn't help but feel puzzled, "Could it be that I was overthinking?"

The bus had already reached a corner, and after turning, it was about to enter another road, out of sight.

Xu Mo couldn't help but sigh again. If it was just his overthinking, this job interview might be delayed!

He shook his head and was about to turn and leave when, from the blind spot around the corner, a heavy truck suddenly rushed out as if it had gone mad.

The bus driver was startled and quickly turned the steering wheel, trying to avoid the truck, but it was too late. The truck hit the bus head-on, causing it to roll over and skid for several dozen meters.

A car couldn't avoid it in time and was also hit by the rolling bus.

Xu Mo stood there, unable to speak for a long time, feeling a sense of relief and survival. After a while, he came to his senses. After much thought, he couldn't bear to give up the job and felt that he couldn't be so unlucky to encounter two accidents in one day.

When the next bus arrived, he got on and headed to the company for the interview.

As he passed the accident scene, he couldn't help but look out the window. Ambulances had already arrived, and emergency personnel were using stretchers to carry the injured to the ambulances.

Xu Mo immediately saw the man and woman who had been talking about him while waiting for the bus. Both were covered in blood, lying motionless on the stretchers. The man's neck was twisted 180 degrees, and the woman's head was crushed on one side. From their injuries, they were likely already dead.

Xu Mo turned his head, his face even more pale. If he hadn't gotten off the bus, he would probably be in the same state as them.

But what about his hallucination before that? Why did it give him such a warning, allowing him to avoid this accident?

Omen? Prophet?

Xu Mo smiled bitterly. If he had such an ability, why would he be in this situation today?

He stopped thinking about it. The rest of the journey was uneventful. When he arrived at the station, he got off the bus, checked the time, and saw that he still had a few minutes before the interview. He determined the direction and ran towards the factory.

He ran all the way and finally arrived at the designated place on time.

The person interviewing him was a young woman in her early twenties, with a somewhat arrogant expression. She held Xu Mo's resume in her hand and glanced through it casually. After he introduced himself, she asked, "Have you done similar work before?"

Although her tone was calm, it always gave Xu Mo a condescending feeling.

This feeling made him extremely uncomfortable. The words he had prepared in his mind were suddenly forgotten. He shook his head and finally said honestly, "No."

"Oh!" The woman glanced at him indifferently. "If you haven't done it before, how can you do it well?" Without waiting for his answer, she continued, "Do you know what our company does?"

Xu Mo replied, "I've learned a bit. It produces steel pipe materials and such."

The woman neither nodded nor shook her head. After a moment, she said, "If I give you this job, how would you arrange your work?"

"That depends on the actual situation," Xu Mo answered.

The woman asked, "What is your career plan? How do you plan to develop in the future, and what are the specific steps?"

"I don't have a plan."

Xu Mo shook his head. He could barely afford to eat, let alone talk about long-term planning.

The woman seemed very dissatisfied with his answer. She looked at him for a long time before continuing, "How much do you know about this job? Do you know what it involves?"

Xu Mo thought for a moment, "Inspection, measurement."

"That's not enough," the woman's expression became even more serious. "Do you know what QC, IQC, IPQC, and QA stand for?"

Xu Mo couldn't help but criticize her internally. He knew these abbreviations but wasn't clear about their specific meanings. Knowing these abbreviations, how would it help in his work?

He was a practical person and usually didn't care about such things. He was stumped and couldn't answer for a long time, finally saying helplessly, "I'm not very clear."

The woman stopped asking questions, put away his resume, and said, "You can go home. If you're suitable, we'll call you."

Xu Mo didn't say anything more. He had been through many interviews in recent years, and from the look of it, he had no hope. He stood up and walked out.

Back at his place, he stood at the door, hesitating for a long time, but didn't dare to push it open.

He didn't live alone. In college, he had a girlfriend, and after graduation, they lived together. However, over the past two years, as his financial situation worsened, his girlfriend's attitude towards him became increasingly cold.

In the past year, although they hadn't broken up and still slept in the same bed, she hadn't let him touch her at all. Recently, she had changed jobs and been promoted, and her attitude towards Xu Mo had become even worse.

It was a Saturday, and Li Qi wasn't at work. She was lying in bed watching TV. When she saw him come in, she glanced at him indifferently and asked casually, "How did the interview go?"

"Not well," Xu Mo replied.

"Oh!" Li Qi turned off the TV, glared at him, and demanded, "What did they ask you? Tell me."

Xu Mo had no choice but to recount the entire interview. After listening, Li Qi kept sneering, "You haven't done it, you haven't done it, hey! You really know how to tell the truth. Didn't I tell you how to answer?"

Xu Mo said helplessly, "I can't lie."

"Can't lie?" Li Qi sneered, "Why don't you just die? You can't even do this small thing. What can someone like you do? I must have been blind to fall for someone like you."

Looking at Xu Mo, her face showed extreme disgust.

Xu Mo sighed inwardly. Every time Li Qi spoke to him recently, it was like this. He didn't know how long their relationship could last. He thought for a moment and said, "I'll send out a few more resumes. Maybe other companies won't be so strict."

"Send out a few more resumes?" Li Qi's face was full of disdain. "You couldn't even get this lousy job. Do you think other companies will want you if you send out more resumes?"

Xu Mo said, "How will you know if you don't try?"

Li Qi seemed to want to scold him more, but stopped herself, said nothing, and turned on the TV again, her face cold.

This reaction was unusual, and Xu Mo felt something was wrong, but he couldn't guess what Li Qi was planning. Or perhaps he guessed but didn't dare to think about such a terrifying outcome.

The atmosphere in the room was suffocating. Under this oppressive atmosphere, Xu Mo felt it hard to breathe. After a while, he couldn't bear the coldness and said, "I'll send out a few more resumes."

He then went out, braving the cold wind, and entered the nearest internet cafe. The cafe had heating, and he felt warm as soon as he went in.

He rubbed his frozen hands, got a computer, opened a web page, and started looking for suitable jobs and sending out resumes.

He sent out dozens of resumes before stopping. After logging off, he thought about Li Qi's attitude and didn't want to go back. He found an empty seat in the cafe and sat there, lost in thought.

The cafe was warm, much more comfortable than his home. He stayed until around ten o'clock at night, until the cafe started its all-night session, and then left for home.

When he got home, he was about to push the door open but stopped, surprised. The door was locked from the outside.

Did Li Qi go out? It was so late, why hadn't she come back?

He was puzzled and suddenly remembered her expression when he left. He had a feeling that something must have happened.

He took out his key, opened the door, and looked inside.

Even though he had expected this result, he still couldn't help but cry out, "Ah!"
