Chapter 1: You’re Mine

After the big earthquake, Ji Wan who was buried inside the ruins finally arrived at her life’s end. At the last hour of her life, she greedily breathed in the thin air at every minute and every second that passed through, until she became more and more debilitated…

She just entered college, she’s still so young, a pity that she had no chance to experience the rest of her life anymore.

When she started to lose her consciousness, her ears suddenly picked up something other than the deathly still silence, it was the arrival of the earthquake’s aftershock. After the roaring sound, she felt herself abruptly fell into a bottomless chasm, the distinct fear tearing her apart and finally cleared her mind a little bit.

“AAAAHH!!!”

At the moment when she fell to the ground, Ji Wan was seized with terror as she tightly closed her eyes. She had no other choice but feeling the scorching heat below that was like a quicksand. Just as expected, a burst of strong wind passed her, and the swirling yellow sands fell on her face.

This was an extremely real feeling, Ji Wan felt uncertain when she opened her eyes. She already adapted to the darkness in those hours she spent waiting for the rescue team to come save her, and as soon as she opened her eyes, the brilliant rays of sunlight attacked her view. She blocked some of the light with her hand, and with a tearful and hazy eyes, she gazed at the new world around her.

Under the azure blue sky was the vast desert going past the horizon, the dry hot wind blew and caressed her cheeks as the yellow sands all around swirled in the air, a faint camel bell could be heard from afar…

Ji Wan stared blankly in a daze for a long time. If it wasn’t because the feeling of yellow sand inside her palm was real, she would think that she was inside the Silk Road’s documentary film.

So, she… is still alive?

The joy of being a survivor wasn’t even able to make her happy for long, because the scenery in front of her eyes wasn’t any safer than the earthquake site before.

She tried to get up. The white flower patterned organza long skirt on her body had already became filthy and damaged, the low heeled shoes she wore had already lost its pair. She subconciously stroked the cut that she received earlier but was instead stunned when she discovered that the wounds on her right elbow was nowhere to be found.

She still remembered clearly that when her house caved in because of the earthquake, her elbow was split open by a fallen steel bar. Even though she can’t see anything at that time, she’s still able to feel her blood flowing ferociously from the cut.

However, there’s nothing left there anymore, not even a mark…

Not only that, but the scratch on top of her lower leg seemed to vanish as well, she’s still not sure if all of what happened before was her own imagination as she could only feel the yellow sands touching her skin.

Even though the doubts and suspicions in her heart grew all the more bigger, she couldn’t just remain here. Inside the boundless yellow sands, if she didn’t depart as quickly as possible, she would sooner or later experience the danger of being between life and death herself.

Comparing the scene on TV and when she experience walking on the desert herself was really different. Her every step seemed to be without gravity as she needed to expend a lot of strength on stepping down and pulling her legs back up from the pile of sands, of course her shoes couldn’t be worn anymore, she could only grit her teeth and kept on walking forward.

There was no flying bird under the azure blue sky, there also was no greenery above the shifting sands, only the sough of the winds flitting across the boundless yellow revealing the eerie bones of the dead.

After going through death once, Jing Wan’s courage unexpectedly got bigger. Crossing through groups of human bones, she quickened her footsteps.

She then heard a different sound brought by the wind, although it was mingled with suffering and agony, but it was nevertheless an authentic human’s voice.

As if finding an oasis, she ran up in wild joy as she firmly believed that there was her kin, and the fact was actually indeed the same as her prayer.

However, the condition wasn’t that beautiful.

The gleaming massacre scimitar was lifted up high before it fell down, the crimson fresh blood was spilled on top of the sand, very quickly, the bright red liquid seeped inside the yellow sands, leaving behind a dark red gloomy trace.

Inside the chaotic crowd, there were hundreds of human wearing ancient apparel from different ethnics all around screaming and fleeing in disorder. Men and women, old and young, all without exception were running away desperately for their lives.

The band of people that was raising their swords, although their number were only a few, but their skills and weapons were excellent. Riding on silver-armoured steed, their swords severed many people’s head with ease. They were wearing golden lion mask as they laughed loudly in the carnage wind and rain of blood.

Ji Wan really wished that she would find some video cameras or props to prove that this was just a play, but after a while, she had to acknowledge that the play she was hoping for was too real to be fake.

She, transmigrated?!

Suddenly, a young girl carrying a swaddling clothes was fleeing to her direction, the infant loud wail and the young girl’s frightened face approaching her closer and closer. Ji Wan could only looked on helplessly as a bloody scimitar whizzed in a dazzling gleam spinning in a beautiful arc and flying towards them.

“AH!!”

She and that young girl shouted at the same time, but the latter cried out in extreme pain and collapsed down. Under the golden peacock red headscarf was a long wavy hair, her beautiful face was twisted with agony as if she was extremely unreconciled, however, the scimitar had already pierced through her back straight to her chest. The red blood dyed the swaddling clothes inside her bosom, but she’s still not willing to loosen her grip as her eyes stared straight to Ji Wan.

This was just like the bloody slaughter played in movies, but one was a fake while the other was real. Even if you give a tiger’s guts to Ji Wan, she still can’t help but be panicked, this was her first time seeing corpses, her legs immediately became soft as she tumbled and sat on the ground.

She could see that the young girl was earnestly hoping that she would help her. Of course if she could she would’ve step forward, but reality wouldn’t permit her to do that.

The fighting was nearing the end as the baby’s sorrowful cry rang out, attracting those murderers, and they then leisurely surrounded Ji Wan, the intruder.

A man jumped off from a white horse’s back, his steps were brisk and light as he neared the dying young girl. His big palms that were donning a white and golden silk gloves pulled out the gold knife’s handle from the back of the young girl without a thread of empathy, the shrill cry from the mangled and bloody human entered Ji Wan’s ears.

She didn’t know if it was her misconception, but she felt like that man was staring at her using a terrifying expression…

Several men came with their horses and jumped down, taking the lead to walk to that man’s side. The hands of the dead young girl was pulled open, revealing a bloody swaddling clothes inside.

Using the bloody scimitar to cut open the ribbon tying the swaddling clothes, he revealed the infant to the harsh yellow sands. The baby who was still not a month old yet cried hard so pitifully, while the man gave a glance over, as if determining if he wanted the gold dagger to fall down on the hopeless little soul.

“Ah!”

Ji Wan couldn’t stand it anymore as she covered her own eyes in a panic, her stomach felt extremely ill, her forehead covered in beads of cold sweat that fell down unceasingly.

Suddenly, a heavy footstep could be heard going to her way. This unease it gave filled her to the extreme as she stealthily looked up; when she discovered that the frightening man was already standing in front of her face.

She looked blankly at this tall and big man, with a strong robust body that looked like an impenetrable wall obstructing her line of view. At the next second, the sharp knife moved to her slender and white neck.

She was frightened until her face went pale, her hands that were covering her eyes subconsciously moved to the ground, trying to retreat to the back slowly. These movements of hers provoked the man at once.

She clearly felt the sharp edge of the knife slicing through her long hair, stopping at her slender nape as she breathed in the dense, thick smell of blood it gave out. She firmly believed that if ever she move just a little bit, her state would be more tragic than the young girl before.

“D-don’t kill me, don’t…”

She clumsily trembled while trying to entreat for mercy. Her appearance was caught by the masked man’s eyes by accident, an unexpected beautiful green color just like the brilliance of emerald, no, it’s more similar to a blood-thirsty wolf king, ruthless, cold, tyrannical.

“Han people?” She had no other choice but to look at his thin lips slightly moving as it spelled out the two words with a very articulate pronunciation, his voice clear and deep.

Ji Wan busily nodded her head. She didn’t know what century she was in, but from her observation, she shouldn’t be in Central Plains [T/N: mainland China], if she’s in Tang Dysnasty, then her status as a Han people perhaps could rescue her life.

Just as expected, the knife that was pressing against her neck was gradually withdrawn until the smell of blood thoroughly vanished, she then finally could breath a sigh of relief.

However, she didn’t expect that another crisis came immediately.

As that man took back the bloodied scimitar, he unexpectedly knelt down with one knee in front of Ji Wan, staring at her in a close proximity.

“You’re very beautiful.”

Ji Wan was astounded, she could hear that what he said was a praise, but when she faced the evil and dark green eyes of his, she could only felt a shiver crawling through her back, her heart beat like a drum until she felt that it was going to stop.

Separated by the white and golden silk gloves, the man’s fingers fell unto Ji Wan’s cheek, lightly feeling and caressing. When Ji Wan wanted to avoid his touch in fear, his palm immediately grasped her dainty neck.

Before losing consciousness completely, Ji Wan vaguely saw the man opening the golden mask that was covering his face…

“You’re mine.”
