"If there are no casualties, it's fine."
Those were the first words from the master as he got off the carriage. However, his gaze was fixed on the troublesome Miss Rosalind.
I have a feeling that something more than just this commotion is going on... Miss Rosalind is still smiling as usual, but it feels like we both have something to hide.
"Master Claude, there's something I would like to ask of you."
"I have something I want to say to you. Or perhaps, something I want to ask."
"Oh, is there something I can answer for you, Master Claude? This is the first time you've ever wanted to ask me something. In return, will you hear my request?"
"Only if it's a reasonable request."
The master's response was cold. Despite sensing this, Miss Rosalind remained calm. She might have a heart of steel.
"Master Claude, don't you think the number of guards has decreased a bit?"
When Michelle pointed this out, the master said nonchalantly, "I gave them some work to do."
"Work?"
"...I would like to know more about the kind of work, Master."
It's definitely some rough work.
"Later."
I thought he might keep it a secret, but it seems he's willing to talk about it.
"Rosalind, since we are family, I'll ask you, but do you understand what might happen to you depending on your answer?"
"It depends on what Master Claude wants to know. However, if it involves my family, I hope you will let it slide. I mean, I hope you will let me off, not my family."
Wow... I have a feeling this is going to be a big family drama. It can't be that everything happening now is related to this... but then again, the Rosalind family from the south is clearly involved in the mine issue. They came to apologize, saying they knew nothing about it, but the way they're talking...
There's definitely something going on. Moreover, Miss Rosalind knows something, and there's a possibility that the master knows something he doesn't.
"Shall we talk about this after we return?"
Uncharacteristically, Miss Rosalind made a reasonable suggestion. It's not something to be discussed outside, but I think it's a bit much to leave this situation as it is.
"I'll give everyone a brief explanation. Not a lie, but the facts of what happened today."
Illegar, who seemed to be concerned about Carnac's frown, said this. Carnac was about to say something in protest, but Illegar silenced him by pressing his head down. In response, the master gave Illegar and Murdoch a piece of information.
"From what I just found out, the large animal issue is not a problem. It's just a grain animal. It won't do anything if not provoked. It will leave if there's no food. Probably."
"Grain animal? What's that...?"
I've never heard of it either. Does it mean an animal that primarily eats grains? But I've never heard of it before...
"That's not my jurisdiction, but since it has an owner, I'll talk to them."
Owner? Could it be an escaped animal? The master looked down at me as if to say, "This is just adding to the trouble." What?
Confused, I followed the master's lead and got into the carriage with Miss Rosalind. On the way here, it was just the two of us in the carriage. It's a small carriage for two, but it's only considered small by the standards of the Lindbergh Duke family. Generally, it's a large enough four-seater.
"You seem irritated, but I don't know what to do with those feelings directed at me, Master Claude?"
"I don't like being kept in the dark."
"Shouldn't the one who can't find the hidden things be blamed as well?"
Miss Rosalind, who laughed lightly, seemed unaffected by whatever the master said. I really think she's amazing in this regard. I'm not sure if I could stand up to the master like that. I might just end up silently cursing him in my head.
"This commotion isn't my fault, and I consider myself a victim."
"If you were a victim, you should have run and hidden. You shouldn't have come back at all."
"That's... I can't help but be concerned about the person Master Claude married. Don't you think it's inevitable?"
I don't understand, but I tried to think about what Miss Rosalind means by being a victim. I can't possibly know. I can tell there's something deep-rooted, but as a new member of the Duke family, I can't possibly understand all the relationships with the various branches and families. I was given the minimum amount of study materials and information by Ragnar, but I don't know what's happening now. For now...
I hope they don't glare at each other in this small carriage. It's making me uncomfortable!
