Chapter 8

Mo was carried upstairs by Fu Pei.

Fu Pei insisted on holding her upstairs. She

couldn't refuse. They spent too much time at the downstairs of girls'

dormitory. Mo had to let him take her upstairs.

It was Wang Shan who opened the door. Her face

stiffened for a second when she saw Fu Pei holding her. Then she smiled again.

‘What happened?’ Wang Shan never looked away

from Fu Pei's face.

‘She was injured.’ Fu Pei walked into the

dormitory with Mo in his arms.

Everyone else in the dormitory came together.

Meng Lu screamed at the end of her foot, ‘How did

this happen?’

‘I caught the gangster bravely on the road and

was flattened.’ Mo said with a smile.

‘You're in a good mood for joking.’ Hu Niu

sighed twice. ‘You can go to a medical magazine with your feet.’

‘Which medical journal do you belong to? Even

this could be accessible.’ Mo said in a joking way.

‘Don't talk about useless things, what's the

matter?’ Meng Lu asked, frowning.

‘I was robbed by somebody on the motorcycle and

dragged several meters, that's all.’ Mo said.

‘That's it?’ Hu Niu snorted, ‘How much time will

it take to recover from this?’

‘The doctor said it shouldn't touch the water or rub

on the wound and it will recover within two or three weeks.’ Fu Pei finally interrupted,

‘You may have to take care of her this time.’

‘No problem.’ Wang Shan jumped out in time. ‘You

can rest assured.’

‘Thank you then.’ Fu Pei gave Wang Shan a big

smile. ‘I'll treat you all for lunch.’

Meng Lu looked at Situ Mo and said, ‘ What

should you do then?’

‘Just pack it for me when you come back.’ Mo

said.

‘Idiot, I can just take you back down with me.’ Fu Pei took it

for granted, ‘You'll be starving after we finish eating.’

‘That's too much trouble.’ Wang Shan said in a

hurry, ‘Why don't I go down to buy some food for Mo now, and we can eat

together later’

Meng Lu groaned, and her face was upset.

‘Isn’t it enough for me to have such a shame

once?’ Mo pulled Meng Lu’s dress, but said it to Fu Pei.

‘Then... Why don't I treat you again next time?' Fu Pei hesitated for a moment. ‘I'll buy you some delicious food later.’

There was nothing wrong with everyone except for

Wang Shan's disappointed face. Fu Pei simply asked everyone what they wanted to

eat and went out.

After the stranger left, Hu Niu and Meng Lu

began to ask questions.

‘Are your bones broken or anything like

that?’ Hu Niu looked at her worriedly.

‘No, it's not that bad.’ Mo shook her head.

‘How did you get those injuries? Isn’t it too expensive just to

go to the interview?' Meng Lu complained.

‘That’s right, why were you so stupid?’ Hu Niu

said in a distressed tone, ‘Just give him the bag, it's just a bag.’

Mo smiled pleasantly: ‘It was too late to let

go.’

‘You guys stop talking. Mo has been sad

enough.’ Wang Shan said suddenly.

Everyone was silent because of her sudden

interruption.

Fu Pei bought them a lot of food. There was a

rule in the girls' dormitory that boys can’t stay for more than an hour. He

told them something which needed to be paid attention to and the time to take the medicine, then went his way with three turns in one step.

When Fu Pei returned to school, Gu Weiyi was

washing clothes on the balcony. He went to say, ‘Why did you choose this time

to wash?’

‘The clothes are stained with blood.’ Gu Weiyi

pulled the clothes out of the basin. ‘How is Situ Mo?’

‘Not so bad, it’s supposed to be all right.’ Fu

Pei glanced at his clothes and asked, ‘Did she cry before I got to the

hospital?’

Gu Weiyi’s action of twisting clothes paused for

a moment. He had seen her tears flashing by, but by that time Fu Pei had

already been to the hospital, so... He twisted the water out of his clothes and

said lightly, ‘No.’

‘I really admire her, a girl, get hurt like that,

but didn't even shed a tear.’ Fu Pei sighed.

‘Yes, she was strong.’ Gu Weiyi nodded and

stopped talking.

‘Actually.’ Fu Pei suddenly had a much words to

pour out, ‘I've been with Mo before.’

Gu Weiyi reached for the hanger, and glanced at

him.

‘Actually, I don't know if it counted.’ Fu Pei

scratched his head, a little embarrassed. ‘During my second year at high

school, I have a relationship with a good friend of Mo. She was very capricious and often

quarreled with me. On one lunch break when there was no one in the classroom, she

cried and shouted at me, and I smashed the glass in the classroom in a rage. Mo

just came back from lunch, looking at the broken glass all

over the floor and her crying friend. She's flushed with anger and was about to beat me with her fists.

At that time, somehow, I suddenly felt that she was so cute.'

Gu Weiyi remained silent, waiting for him to go

on.

‘Very perverted, right? Later, I couldn't help

but keep an eye on Mo’s move. Later, I don't remember what happened. I broke up

with my girlfriend anyway. After that, I took Mo out to eat, read and chat with

me in the name of love.' Fu Pei immersed himself in his memories. ‘Then I

idiotically chose April Fool's Day to tell her about my feelings, and to my surprise, she

agreed.’

‘How did you break up later?’ Gu Weiyi couldn't

help asking the question.

‘She didn’t realize that it was April Fool's Day

until one week later. She got angry and said she was going to break up with me,

so we broke up.’ Fu Pei laughed at himself, ‘I realized it myself that I'm guilty.'

‘So you parted? Didn't you try to get her back?’ Gu Weiyi

was surprised.

‘At that time, I thought she was making a fuss over nothing and my pride don't allow me to coax her, and I always thought she was always beside me and wouldn't run away.’ Fu Pei shrugged. 'Actually, I don't know

what she's angry about till now.'

Gu Weiyi wanted to say something, but he didn’t

know what to say. Emotion was a strange thing that nobody can make it clear.

Mo laid in bed in a daze. Her whole body is in pain. It has been such a long day today.

‘Mo, are you hungry?’ Hu Niu asked her.

‘Not hungry and no appetite.’ Mo shook her head.

‘What did Fu Pei buy just now?’

‘Snacks, not porridge or anything like that.’ Hu

Niu said casually, ‘He is a good man, but he don't know how to take care of

others.’

‘Won’t you be ashamed to say that when he has

bought you something to eat.’ Wang Shan leaned over from her seat and said in a

joking tone.

‘Oh, you have begun to defend him before getting

married to him.’ Meng Lu interrupted in a joking tone.

‘Meng Lu, what are you talking about?’ Wang Shan

said, blushing.

‘In fact, it doesn't matter if a man is being intimate or not. The most important thing is to be sincere. Others can be trained

slowly.’ Hu Niu sighed, ‘In fact, Fu Pei is very sincere, making it four years

like a day for you.’

‘Yes, his girlfriend of four years in college

can form a football team.’ Mo disdained it.

‘Maybe those are just wild flowers. He's been

waiting for you, the family flower.’ Meng Lu teased her. ‘Why have you never thought about accepting him?’

‘Mo have said that's a false tale.’ Wang Shan

couldn’t help saying.

‘Yes, I'm uninterested.’ Mo agreed.

‘Come on, your mouth is too tight to pry

anything out. It's not interesting.’ Hu Niu shrugged and walked away.

Meng Lu looked at Mo, and somehow dropped a

sentence, ‘I don't know what you're afraid of.’ And walked away.

Mo grinned bitterly. She was really afraid of Fu

Pei.

She should have had her head squeezed by the

door before she promised to be with him.

It was dusk. Fu Pei was walking with her on the

school road. He taught her how to turn a basketball with one finger while

walking. She angrily threw the ball back to him because she could not learn it.

He held the basketball in his arms, and his white school uniform was sticking

to him because it was soaked with sweat. The afterglow of the sunset coated him

with golden light. He smiled and said, ‘Mo, why don't you be my girlfriend?’

She was shocked by him, and bowed her head

conditionally. Two long shadows on the cement floor were drawn by the sunset. Soon she felt warm in her heart, and she nodded.

That evening, his smile was in front of her

eyes, and his voice lingered in her mind repeatedly: ‘Mo, why don't you be my

girlfriend?... Mo, why don't you be my girlfriend? Mo, why don't you be my

girlfriend? Mo...'

She was under the great pressure of betraying

relatives to be together with Fu Pei. Xu Jieer scolded her severely and then

broke up with her. Her classmates all talked about her behind her back. She had

born all these. Nevertheless, it's sweet to go to the snack bar to have ice

cream after class, exchange a look under the teacher's eyelids and smile at

each other in class, pass notes during the self-studies to write something...

At that time, she liked Fu Pei very much and

wrote a thick diary for him in a week. She wanted to wait until his birthday to

give it to him. Unfortunately, it's too late... Thinking about this, she picked

up a notebook under her pillow, the diary she wrote to Fu Pei. She hasn't

opened it during her four years of university. She took it with her to remind

herself that she shouldn't her fall in love with him again.

Mo opened her notebook with lots of little love

on the front page. She couldn't help laughing. Sure enough, the girl's feelings

are always spring. Turning over the title page, there was only one sentence on

the first page. She looked at her childish handwriting in a daze.

Mo closed the notebook vigorously. She took her feelings

so seriously and bravely, but it was only an inadvertent joke on April Fool's

Day. Besides, she was really angry for only one day. She had been waiting for

him to coax her and explain to her about it for the rest of the week. But he didn't. He

didn't even say sorry. He just said that we would still be good friends, right?

Then he made a new girlfriend as quickly as the lightning. Good friends,

right? He can do it, and she can do it for sure.

The notebook that was left at the end of the bed

slightly opened, a sentence could be distinguished under the light which was a

little dim, your smile had brightened my whole youth.
