"Master, after observing for a few days, do you guess what I discovered?" Taking advantage of the time while the group was queuing, Moses approached Gongsun Murong and whispered.
Gongsun Murong, looking at the tall walls covered with moss, casually replied, "You found that the coachman Rodney knows too much, even including writing."
"Right, right, Master, the wise you... did you also discover it?" Moses asked in surprise.
Gongsun Murong didn't answer such a trivial question.
"Alright, Master, I think he should be a butler, not a coachman, a true noble's butler." Moses had to say it himself.
Gongsun Murong nodded slightly, "I know, he used to be Baron Briel's butler. Baron Briel said there should be a balance, so he appointed six butlers, and Rodney was the fourth butler."
"Ah?" Moses was confused.
Gongsun Murong continued, "Baron Briel said power shouldn't be too concentrated, it should be dispersed. Servants need competition to stabilize the master's position."
"Ah? Butlers need to compete? Butlers should be absolutely trusted, right? I can't imagine the consequences if different voices appear in an adventurer's team." Moses was stunned.
He then criticized, "Baron Briel is a swine. Doesn't he know that a butler's ability should always be second, and the first is loyalty? Doesn't he know? A small baron needs six butlers to compete, is he afraid of dying too slowly?"
"He didn't die, he ran away. His first butler offended someone he shouldn't have, and he fled with the family's wealth to another place, no one knows where. Then the debts signed by the other butlers fell on themselves, and Rodney was one of them."
Gongsun Murong seemed to be in a good mood and spoke more than usual.
Moses slapped his forehead hard, "Oh, poor Rodney, pitiful Rodney, his talent, his ability... how can this be? I think one person like him is enough, he can handle anything, and he can get along well with everyone."
"Master, look, all the horses, even the young calves, are close to him."
"And the families of others, whether children or the elderly, he can take care of them well."
"Rodney directs everyone to move, but no one feels uncomfortable, they are all willing to follow his arrangements."
"Such a person, as long as he is loyal enough, does he need other butlers to compete?"
"Perhaps Briel felt a sense of achievement in manipulating people's hearts." Gongsun Murong's tone was still so calm, but the adventurers could sense the master's genuine anger, anger for the plight of a former butler.
"Yes, Master, his achievement is fleeing. Oh, the desert is safer, because people are simple, they kill when they want to kill, they rob when they want to rob, without too much calculation."
"Oh, Master, please allow your servant to ask a question." Moses suddenly thought of something and said cautiously.
Gongsun Murong squinted his eyes.
Moses quickly added, "Master, I know I asked a question I shouldn't have, in the future, I will ask directly, not probe. Master, can you tell me how you knew?"
"Just like when I set up the tent before you seven arrived, and when Nalasha reported the position of the Three Blade Hands."
Gongsun Murong stared at all the adventurers and continued, "Nalasha's perception range is very large. Of course, if I wanted to, I could increase the perception distance, but usually, Nalasha is enough."
"She doesn't like killing, but she doesn't resist it. Nalasha prefers to have a group of people around her, living with her, she doesn't expect them to be very powerful."
"Ah? Is that so? Master, what about you?" Moses asked what all the adventurers were thinking.
"Me? You wouldn't understand now." Gongsun Murong said frankly.
Moses felt his curiosity itching to scratch, understanding or not, it should be said, what if he understood.
Alright, if Master says he doesn't understand, he shouldn't understand. Just like he doesn't understand why Master and Miss, who are so powerful, insist on selling water in the desert to earn a little money.
"About the magic contract, Master, are you sure you won't buy it?" Moses asked again, his bearded face showing a childlike expression, like a child looking at their parents during a holiday, parents who had promised to take them to the amusement park.
"Too expensive, Nalasha won't agree, and I don't think it's necessary."
"Muron brother is right, I asked, the cheapest one costs five thousand gold coins, and there are tens of thousands, I absolutely won't agree."
Nalasha's voice suddenly appeared in the carriage, and then, to the amazement of Moses and others, her figure materialized from a blur.
"Heaven, spatial movement?" Moses widened his eyes and whispered.
Nalasha also widened her eyes, "What spatial movement? I just floated over and refracted the light, tell me what spatial movement is?"
"Miss, speaking of spatial movement... you should go to school to learn it, your loyal servant is just a warrior, I'll go queue." Moses said and ran off.

Moses and the others calmly accompanied the coachman Christopher Rodney in the queue. They understood that once they entered the capital, the coachman didn't need to perform too well, as long as he was proper, he would be appointed as a butler by Master and Miss.
This wasn't because Master and Miss didn't know the gravity of the situation, but because they simply didn't care who betrayed them. Compared to the arrogance of the people in the capital, Master and Miss were profoundly indifferent.
"Boss, I have to admit, I really admire you. Speaking of it, the Thunderbolt Mercenary Group and the Drifting Leaves don't seem like much." George looked back at the carriage that should have only had Master, but now had two people.
"In the desert, I was very afraid of being silenced. You know, the Three Blade Hands of the Yellow Sand Blood died too quickly. Master killed them, and Miss was actually unhappy because too much blood was spilled." Moses frankly stated his initial judgment.
The adventurers nearby nodded in agreement.
As adventurers, they were always prepared to die at any moment, but who wouldn't want a powerful support, so that their families could be taken care of after their death.
The Thunderbolt Mercenary Group and the Drifting Leaves Mercenary Group were always the holy grails in the hearts of adventurers. The powerful strength and the legendary stories of their rise were full of charm.
The dream of the past appeared right beside them, and they believed that one day, following Master and Miss, they could also write a legend.
Today, they witnessed Miss's power, could Miss be the incarnation of a magic deity?
Looking at Miss, who was still next to Christopher Rodney.
Clearly, that wasn't true, that was absolutely... a real illusion.
A Miss who treated magic as an instinct, a Master whose strength was hard to gauge, were they chosen by the goddess of luck?
More importantly, they had gained the trust of Master and Miss. Although the two said they were unwilling to spend money, everyone knew that was an excuse.
"Five copper coins, not one less, Karl, don't pretend to be pitiful, we know you're not poor. You always bring outsiders and pretend to be local farmers to enter the city, to cheat them out of their fees."
The voice of the city guard interrupted the adventurers' thoughts, making them regain their calm and caution.
"Karl, today, just today, I will expose your false mask, oh! Don't give me money, I won't accept any bribes."
"Outsiders, listen, entering the capital only costs five copper coins, yes, five, as long as you follow the laws of the duchy, you don't need to worry after entering the city."
"Karl, are you trying to threaten me with that look? Do I need to tell you my name and address? Your superior, Captain Cliff, has been tried for accepting bribes. I don't care how you describe it to outsiders, but I will tell them that the capital of the duchy is not hell, put away your tricks."
The city guard's voice continued, followed by a commotion of people cursing the one called Cliff. Clearly, his deception was exposed, causing others' displeasure.
The incident at the city gate seemed very short, so short that most people wouldn't care, and some even smiled.
But the coachman Christopher Rodney frowned and whispered to Nalasha beside him, "Respected Miss Mage, when I left, Cliff was still the captain of the city guard here. He always cooperated with some people to bully outsiders and gain benefits. It seems the Duke can no longer tolerate his existence, do you understand?"
After five seconds, Nalasha raised her head and spoke, "I understand, Duke Gers might be planning something big, right? The fourth butler of the Briel family... Christopher Rodney?"
"Ah? You?" The coachman Rodney was startled.
"Oh, I'm not specifically investigating you, I know these things because you always talk to yourself. I believe you understand, I... am a mage, right?" Nalasha smiled awkwardly.
"I..." Christopher Rodney was terrified, he took several deep breaths to calm himself down, "Actually... Miss Nalasha, not every mage can hear others' murmurs. I won't be angry at your eavesdropping, I just... just..."
"Brother Murong and I need a qualified butler, and only one. Although we have a lot of money, we don't want to pay for a second butler."
"Brother Murong and I agree that as masters, we should help the butler repay his past debts to gain his loyalty. What do you think, Christopher Rodney?"
Nalasha's words sounded awkward, as if she was repeating and imitating someone else's words.
Christopher Rodney was stunned. He looked at the other adventurers and saw their meaningful smiles, and a bit of... expectation and blessing.
After a few moments of thought, he bowed, "As you wish, my master, Miss Nalasha."
PS: If you think the current book has too few words, you can read my other two completed novels, "Pastoral Tang" and "The Legend of the Innkeeper." There is actually another one, but I don't think it's well-written, so I'm embarrassed to mention it, it's called "Star Hidden."
