The soft quilt turned suppressed Yu Xiaoyu’s bawling into low sobs as two girls with maids’ hair rushed into the room. They looked fearfully at Yu Xiaoyu, who seemed to be in pain on the bed, and only after a moment did they speak, “Little Mistress, what is the matter?”
Yu Xiaoyu did not answer so the two maids pulled her out from beneath the bedding, fearing that she might be suffocated and pass out with her head covered like this.
Yu Xiaoyu, unable to resist, peeked her head out of the bedding, with one arm covering her red eyes, rolled over, turned her back on the two maids who were staring at her, and continued to wail.
System Lord: “Dear, I beg you to stop crying, if you keep crying your persona will collapse, you didn’t get any experience value from the last mission, do you still intend to pass the checkpoint if you keep going on like this?”
Perhaps it was because System Lord’s words hit Yu Xiaoyu right in the heart, soon her cries gradually weakened.
If she could complete the mission, then she could get out of the system and go straight to the headquarters. Then she couldget the scientific researchers to bring the male lead back to life. Nowadays, technology was so advanced that this method would definitely work.
With this thought, Yu Xiaoyu stopped crying, only sniffling every now and again.
The two maids stood by the bed, both quite clueless about what to do, merely one looking at the other, and the other looking back at her companion. Finally, a gravelly voice spoke, “Go, invite Prince An to come.”
Yu Xiaoyu had already calmed down from her grief, having learnt from her pain and suffering, she decided that she would have to properly complete this mission. She got up from her bed, which was in a mess from her crying, and began to carefully study the information downloaded for her by the System Lord.
Before the information could be clicked on, the sound of steady footsteps were heard coming from outside the door. When Yu Xiaoyu looked up, she saw a man dressed in a dark black official robes coming through the door.
The man’s face was not visible against the light, all that could be seen were the broad shoulders wrapped in the dark black official robes, but the figure seemed somewhat familiar.
Yu Xiaoyu blinked as the man took a few more steps forward, his face was soon enveloped by the light from the window, it was a good-looking face.
The long eyebrows flying into the hair by his temples, underneath the straight bridge of the nose were a pair of rosebud lips, and his eyes were as dark as ink, their luminosity made her feel like looking into them, one could see the reflection of a galaxy of stars.
This was the face of Ye Zhiyang.
His lips were slightly parted and a deep, steady voice could be heard, “Ning’er, are you awake?”
For a moment, Yu Xiaoyu couldn’t really hear what he was saying, and she couldn’t help but stare blankly at the man in front of her.
The man seemed to notice Yu Xiaoyu’s discomfort, he slightly raised his hand and dismissed all the servants waiting at the side. Then, he stepped forward, stopping inches away from Yu Xiaoyu’s heavily curtained bed. Towering above her, he lifted Yu Xiaoyu’s sharp chin with his fingers and said softly, “Are you better now?”
Yu Xiaoyu’s eyes grew moist again, the closer the man came, the more sure she was about what she saw. This face truly was Ye Zhiyang’s face.
The black and long sword-eyebrows, the high knife-like bridge of his nose, and the corners of the mouth that always held a smile, throughout her entire life, Yu Xiaoyu would never be mistaken about recognising this face.
The only difference was that Ye Zhiyang often had neatly combed short hair and would wear a black suit, while the man in front of her now has his hair held up by a jade coronet, was wearing official robes, and a crane beating its feathered wings was embroidered in golden silver thread on his chest.
Yu Xiaoyu bowed her head slightly and replied in a small voice, “I’m much better now.”
As soon as she opened her mouth, she was startled by her hoarse voice. It sounded like two pieces of sandpaper being rubbed together. She had cried so hard just now that she had broken her voice.
Naturally the man didn’t believe her, and his long eyebrows frowned slightly. He rubbed Yu Xiaoyu’s face slightly with his large, thick hands with peeling calluses and said, “If you’re still unwell then sleep a little longer.”
After saying that, he reached out and covered pulled the corner of the blanket over Yu Xiaoyu, then turned around and prepared to leave.
When the man turned around, Yu Xiaoyu jerkily reached out and tugged on the man’s long, wide sleeve.
The man was slightly stunned and turned back to give Yu Xiaoyu a deep look.
“I …… stay with me, okay?”
Yu Xiaoyu bit her lip, struggling to get the words out.
Just stay with her ba, even though she knew that Ye Zhiyang was dead, somehow she felt like apart from their faces alone, there seemed to be many similarities between the two men. Like the tone of their speech, or maybe their habit of slightly raising their eyebrows, and even that heady scent of male hormones that wafted around them, making people burn inside.
The man nodded. Without taking off his official uniform, he just clambered directly under Yu Xiaoyu’s covers and reached out to put his arm around Yu Xiaoyu’s shoulders, gently patting her on the back.
Yu Xiaoyu closed her eyes and leaned her head on the man’s arm, secretly inhaling a large breath of the man’s faint scent of grass.
Instantly, she became aware of how the body of the man beside her began to tense slightly, and the sharp rise in body temperature. This unseen, fire of desire between them, the more they tried to suppress it, the greater it burned.
“Du……”
The System Lord snapped, “Are you sure you don’t want to look at the profile information? He’s your elder brother.”
Yu Xiaoyu was now really frantic; she closed her eyes and clicked on the male lead’s profile in her mind.
It really wasn’t Ye Zhiyang, but His Highness Prince An.
His Highness Prince An was the Third Imperial Prince. One night, the Emperor had become intoxicated from drink, and his body had filled with lust that he had no way of discharging. Thus, he had randomly grabbed a nearby young palace maid and used her then and there. What he had not expected was that all it took was this one dalliance, and the palace maid had become pregnant with a dragon child.
On the one hand, the Emperor felt that his own royal bloodline should not be mixed with such lowly blood, and another thing was that he felt that the incident was too coincidental. It had only been one time, and she had successfully gotten pregnant, with a dragon child at that, was it even possible?
So, the Emperor had always disliked this son and finally when Prince An came of age, the Emperor simply gave him a remote piece of mountain land and dumped him there.
As for Yu Xiaoyu, the ‘body’ that was hosting her was actually an orphan girl that His Highness Prince An had rescued from the depths of the mountain woods. He had brought her back to his residence, and had cared for her as his younger sister.
The true female lead of His Highness Prince An was instead the young daughter of a wealthy noble family, whose marriage to him was through imperial decree. This was a typical story of marriage first, and love later. The wealthy noble young lady would initially look down upon Prince An’s status, but slowly she would grow to accept him and the two would live happily ever after together.
After reading this information, Yu Xiaoyu silently opened her eyes and looked at the man lying beside her.
Her fingers tapped on the bridge of the man’s straight nose and finally landed on those soft lips.
Yu Xiaoyu sighed softly and leaned her head closer to Prince An.
Just when, just exactly when, would she be able to have such a wonderful male lead hmm?
