Chapter 7 of 10

Chapter 7: The Elite Younger Sister-in-Law (7)

5 min read1,316 words

It wasn't particularly strenuous work, just weeding, fertilizing, tilling the land, picking vegetables, and cleaning the pig and cattle pens.

The farm would also send some of its produce—vegetables, fruits, and meat—to the cooperating schools as needed.

No school would refuse.

After all, the weekly labor class was either about organizing students to weed the playground or clean the windows of classrooms and offices.

Going to the farm to weed could yield some vegetables, saving the cafeteria some expenses. Why not?

"Students, please quiet down and listen to me."

After getting off the bus and lining up, the class monitor led a group of boys to collect labor gloves and other equipment. The homeroom teacher clapped her hands and gave a few instructions.

The gist was to encourage everyone to work hard and not to tarnish the reputation of the Sixth Middle School, but also to pay attention to safety and return here on time after the work was done. Additionally, students should report to their assigned tasks as per their registrations and not wander around.

After the homeroom teacher finished speaking, Xu Yin, carrying a water bottle, approached the tractor.

A master was already waiting for them on the tractor.

The old master only got out of the cab once everyone had gathered.

Upon closer inspection: Wow! There's even a little girl.

However, he only muttered a few words to himself and didn't say anything out loud.

The leadership had said that students from various schools were there to help with odd jobs, doing tasks the farm couldn't manage in time.

This was an agreement between the farm and the schools.

But for the sake of a good reputation, they didn't say it that way. Instead, they claimed that the school organized students to come to the farm to learn labor skills, with the farm providing the instruction.

The result was an exaggerated claim.

When the provincial authorities heard that Mingyang County had such a labor education base, they wanted to send a team to inspect it.

If it was as meaningful as the farm claimed, it might be promoted to other cities and counties in the province.

The farm manager, excited, slapped himself: "For boasting!"

But the city education commission had already issued a notice, and provincial leaders were coming for inspection this Friday. He had to prepare for their reception.

So, the farm manager came up with this idea:

Allocate a tractor and have the old master take the students for a ride;

Arrange a couple of plots of land and assign some staff to teach the students how to plant vegetables;

At the ranch, arrange for some students to observe milking and shearing sheep...

In short, there would be both work and teaching.

Once the leaders left, everything would return to normal.

Honestly, the farm didn't really expect the students to know how to plow, plant vegetables, or shear sheep.

The old master, regaining his composure, glanced at the students who had signed up for tractor plowing:

"Who among you knows how to drive it?"

If one or two knew, he wouldn't have to teach them.

Let the experienced ones take the inexperienced for a few rounds, and the leaders would see this.

Unfortunately, no one spoke up.

The old master's lips twitched. He shouldn't have expected too much from these ivory tower kids.

He patted his pipe and said, "Alright, get in. I'll demonstrate first, and then you'll take turns practicing."

The old master started the tractor while explaining.

Then he began plowing.

Since the tractor's bed had been removed and replaced with a plow, the cab was small. The old master took turns with the students plowing the field.

The noise from the tractor was so loud that the students couldn't focus on the old master's instructions.

By the end of the first round, the old master asked, "Did you learn it?"

No one responded.

Alright, let's do it again.

At the end of the second round: "Who learned it this time?"

Still... No! A kid raised his hand.

The old master's eyes widened. It was the little girl he hadn't expected much from.

At this moment, the inspection team, accompanied by the farm leadership, was approaching. There was no time to teach again, so he pointed at Xu Yin:

"Alright, you give it a try."

Xu Yin sat in the driver's seat of the tractor, took a deep breath, and brought up the system panel. She activated the "Scene Simulation" function, which she had unlocked while watching the old master operate the tractor, and selected "Tractor Driving."

Like the previous two mini-worlds, the new function required a reward package to be activated.

Fortunately, the new mountain bike package she had received wasn't very useful to her, so she exchanged it for the new function.

The simulation scene opened, and the system panel became a tractor control room, with clear instructions at each step.

Xu Yin followed the instructions step by step.

To the old master, it looked like a novice was getting familiar with the process.

But soon, her movements became smooth.

The tractor roared to life and moved forward.

The soil was turned over as it passed, deeper than the old master's plowing.

It was both fast and efficient.

Xu Yin, seeing that the old master didn't stop her, thought she wasn't proficient enough yet.

So, she focused even more.

After plowing a straight line, she followed the simulation interface's instructions to carefully turn around and continue plowing.

The simulation interface also showed the time taken to plow a straight line and gave a rating.

The highest proficiency level was S, and she had barely reached B+.

This wouldn't do!

In her student days, she had always been a master of achieving S in various tasks.

For any task with an S rating, getting an A+ wasn't considered perfect, and a B+ was an insult!

Xu Yin, determined to achieve an S rating for a single plowing run, continued plowing.

She plowed one row, turned around, and plowed another.

In just a few minutes, she had plowed the field that would normally take an hour.

Moreover, the tractor was accelerating.

The black soil was being turned over deeply.

The old master, sitting in the passenger seat, was speechless.

At first, he was quite pleased, thinking he had trained a good student without much effort.

But as the tractor sped up, he couldn't remain calm.

He wanted to ask Xu Yin to stop, as he was about to vomit, but then he saw the inspection team nearby:

"..."

Fine, he would endure! After all, it was a task assigned by the leadership.

Thus, Xu Yin mistakenly thought her plowing skills hadn't met the old master's standards.

Otherwise, why hadn't he praised her?

And he hadn't called for a stop, so she needed more practice.

So, she continued plowing.

She focused on the task map given by the simulation interface and continued to speed up.

The other students, including A, B, C, D, and E, were all stunned:

"..."

A male classmate:

Holy crap! Our classmate Xu Yin is so low-key!

When she signed up for tractor plowing, I thought she was trying to take it easy.

After all, driving a tractor is a seated job, unlike weeding, fertilizing, pest control, and picking vegetables, which require bending over and are tiring, and involve dirty work.

Especially fertilizing and pest control, which girls usually avoid.

But it turns out she's not like that! I was narrow-minded. Xu Yin chose this task because she's good at it. Impressive!

A male classmate from another class:

Holy cow! This girl looks so delicate, but she drives a tractor so coolly!

Indeed, one cannot judge a person by their appearance or measure the sea with a bucket!

But it makes us boys look so useless...
